Hay guyz.
Just bought a PS2. Unfortunately I kind of forgot that my family hogs the 2 TVs in the house. So I decided to play on my PC instead.

Thinking of buying either a VGA Box or TV Tuner card. Which would be the better choice? Right now I'm going for the Asus My Cinema-P7131 Dual PCI TV&FM TV Tuner Card (RM200).
Any other suggestions? laugh.gif

Hi, I also bought a external TV turner that is able to display up to 1280 x 1024 but when I connect my PS2 the picture quality is worse than TV. It looks like playing PS1 graphics.

My 2 cents, rather tha;n spending RM 200 on a TV turner card. Better buy a 21 "TV which cost around RM300++.

Well the graphics look bad could be because PC monitors can display higher resolutions than TVs or possibly the transition of the signal..........

But knowing my friend Zephro here, I think he wouldn't really mind some picture quality degradation.......

Maybe you should go for a cheaper TV tuner card if possible.......

Besides picture quality, you should also consider the factor of input lag. Most of these VGA boxes will introduce some input lag. TV Tuner cards would have it worse i believe, since they use software.

I found certain games (rhythm games mostly) to be unplayable with input lag to my monitor.

Yeah lo, cheapo TV is much better to play PS2. At Makro u can get a 29" TV for RM369 (i guess, not really sure). biggrin.gif

Audio can be solved by using your sound card. Jack into your LINE IN port from your sound card can edi.

For those who have bad quality:
Stop using the crappy RWY composite cables, buy an S-Video cable.
Makes everything 100% better.

Works for me.

Oops, sorry for not replying for a while. Didn't go to this part of the forum tongue.gif

All you need to play PS2 on your PC monitor is a TV Tuner Card/VGA box.
Personally I used a TV Tuner Card, its a Pixelview. Has a Philips Tuner and a Conexant chipset, which my friend said is among the ones with good quality.
Dunno about VGA boxes, so I can't comment on that.

Oh, and don't cheap out by buying a cheapass tuner card. If it uses software compression as opposed to hardware compression, you will get delays in input, generally making games unplayable.

EDIT: Forgot to mention price. My Pixelview card was 180bux, but you should be able to get a newer and more compact one (Same maker, newer design I suppose) for only 130bux if I'm not mistaken. You only lose out on the remote control, but honestly who needs that.

no you cant get it here, you need to get them online (especially X2VGA who only sell via their own site). I got my X2VGA2 v2.0 (the never batch that supports up to 1080p) last month from there, works superbly fine on my 360 and Wii laugh.gif

If you do interested you are recommended to act fast as it will takes a handy of months before they restock their products after they run out of stock.
