Hi,
I am a newbie here.

Just got my V3242 (with Vista) today and understood that before we do anything first, we must do a back-up disc.

My question is :
1) How to do a back-up disc ?
2) Since it's has 120 GB disc, how to do a partition and how many partition is recommended. (ex :40-40-40 or 40-60-20).

Thanks a lot.

Not the share memory thingy.
What i mean as how to upgrade the forceware firmware.
It stated there "open the inf file", and i don't know what it is, and i don't know how to add the 2 lines thingy in.
I'm using Crosair value ram, 1GB 2 sticks.
No problem with that till now. (from last sunday tongue.gif)

It;s alright to have 512MB & 1GB ram running together ?

I try to do an manual update for Vista from Microsoft website.

This's actually for the iTunes program so that to avoid any iPod corrupted when we click on the "remove hardware safely".

The problem is that there is 2 file for the update....one for Windows Vista x86 based version and another for Windows 64 bit version.

Which one should I choose ??

Do you guys recommend me to uninstall the Norton Antivirus that comes pre-installed in my V3242 ??

I think the Norton AV is really slowing down the Vista and also my internet connection speed.

Thinking of getting rid of Norton and install AVG.

For Anti Virus, I prefer AVG...free & does not slow down the system.

Added on May 25, 2007, 11:00 amIs there anyway to increase the battery life besides lowering down the screen brightness ??

When on WiFi mode, I intend to try to increase the battery life to 2.5 hour.
Currently can last around 2 hours only.

install Windows XP with Service Pack 2,
install the Microsoft Dual Core hotfix,
install the AMD Dual Core Turion 64 X2 CPU driver
install the AMD Dual Core Optimizer

optional:
install AMD Power Monitor to easily switch between power options...

set power option to minimal power management. should be fine...

will try to update the main page with dual core drivers n links asap...

If using Vista running on AMD, how we do maximize our battery life to 2.5 hours ?

Currently mine can last around 1.45 to max of 2 hour on WiFI.

if you are using windows vista, you dont need to install any of the dual core drivers or anything. Vista supports dual core out of the box.

Windows Vista Power Options in Control Panel has a PowerSaver plan. does that work? somewhere in the control panel also has settings for notebook, i think.

Vista Power Saving tips

Early version of Windows Vista has problem with power management too. heard that it drains more power than Windows XP.

I think the PowerSave mode is working, otherwise I would be able to get battery life up to 2 hours.

Will try to see if I can get 2.5 hours battery life when surfing on hotspot area with WiFi with the following adjustment :

1. Setting the hard disk to turn off in 5 mins instead of the default of 20 mins.
2. Setting the min & max CPU clock speed.
3. Screen brightness setting to lowest as possible.

Hi everyone,

I got a V3204TU model in January 2007 and it was working fine until recently when the sound started giving problems. When you tilted it in a certain way, there'd be no sound and if you adjusted the lcd, the sound comes back but later on, we discovered that if you rested your wrist on the right side of the laptop, the sound would go off and if you lifted your wrist up and put it back there, the sound would come back on. A bit strange.

Sent it to the service centre and obviously, the sound had to work perfectly. Anyway, they've listed my problem as "intermittent sound issues". Hopefully they find out what's wrong.

I'm scared of sending my computer to the service centre. Not sure if it's going to come back more spoilt or what.

For any new expensive product, all of us should be scared if send back to service centre ohmy.gif
But in your case, since it's not a software issue but hardware issue, you have no choice but to send back to them (maybe some parts or wiring lose inside your notebook).

Yep...I also have to face with Vista incompatibilty when comes to installing programs. I

I have at least 5 bluescreen crashes on my V3242 since I bought 3 weeks ago but it's okay since I took the risk of unstalling those programs that still not 100% Vista certified compatible.

So far, I still very happy with Vista cause I believe it will take a while before more programs will be Vista friendly.

One piece of advice to all new buyer of Vista, your notebook must have at least 1G of RAM for Vista. You cannot budget or save on this otherwise your Vista will be damn slow.

Hi...need some help here.

Today when I on my notebook V3242, it goes into disk check mode.
However during the disk checking process, it hang / freeze at 8%.
I have no choice but to force shut-down and restart again & again but still disk check hang / freeze at 5% and sometimes 8% etc.

If I exit the disk check, I still able to boot to Vista BUT the system is unstable as some of the device drivers seems missing and I not able to connect to my handphone as a modem.
I have tried system restore but system restore failed.

I think only way to solve this to do a full disk check when reboot but the disk check still hang / freeze.

Any suggestion what to do next before I do a FULL system recovery ?
