anyone here using mushkin ddr2 667 512mb x 2 ? my laptop is a v3218au = amd

i'm having problems when doing certain things on my laptop...
esp when playing video (divx, xvid) different players also same problem.... different installations also same problem...

but when i encode movies no problem... it doesnt hang.

only when playing movies.... normallly 30-40 minutes into the movie it will freeze and the speaker emits short looping sound continously.

i already upgraded latest firmware and drivers from compaq, on another installation i also have custom drivers from other sources. both installations also behave the same, freeze when doing certain things.

temperature i monitor.... its still ok... if temperature is the problem then i should hang when i encoding movies.

anyone have any idea ? could it be the ram ?

Added on May 23, 2007, 12:31 pmi suspected the cdrom drive because some people have issues with compaq series combo drive. stilll freeze also.

u give to hp with ur corsair ram still inside ? they never question why not compaq ram ?

i'm having some problems too with my v3134 with 512x2 667 mushkin ram
always hang when use wifi, the mouse cursor stops moving, keyboard no response and only way is to keep pressing the power button 4 seconds until it shuts down.

it also hangs when playing movies, dvd, mpg and xvid files also. all players also hang, even videolan player. normally they movies starts ok but then after 10-20 minutes suddenly stops responding and the audio output keeps looping like stuttering.

if i dont shut down manually after hang it CAN go on for hours and the laptop never goes into standby or suspend. just stuck there... .

i had some thought it maybe the new mushkin ram i installed but i am not sure now maybe their mainboard problem.

vista hang/xp also hang.

now i am divided whether i should get a kvr 533 and test it out before going to compaq.

I had the same problem that you are having..I bought the older version V3010 from Low Yat Plaza. After using it for few weeks, problems of auto shut down and rebooting, Windows XP feeze for no reasons, the Wifi stops functioning...it really pissed me off. I send the latop to HP in D'sara Height for troubleshooting 3 times.
1st time - They did a thorough check and reinstalled Windows XP for me..but after a few hours the same prob came back.
2nd time - They told me it was a faulty Hard Drive and they change that for me. Result is the same...
3rd time - They told me that it is possible that the Ram was not compatible..I told them to shove it and demanded they change the whole Motherboard..which they did..
And finally I am using my latop without any problem or inteferences till today.

Go send your laptop to the HP Centre and demand that they change the motherboard..that will solve your problem.

By the way..I am using a third party RAM..from Corsair..so the bullshit about you can only use HP original RAM is totally BULLSHIT!!!!

update bios dude and u can adjust video ram

QUOTE(emmet @ Jul 1 2007, 09:15 PM)
I have a question, is it possible to upgrade the graphics card for compaq presarios? compaq is telling me that the max video ram i can achieve is 32mb the other 32mb is dynamic even running higher than 1gb ram. What is a Defeatured Motherboard??? Apparently my board is a df board not a full featured.

just my luck then.... what series is yours ? v3000 series, v3100 series or v3200 or ???
now kvr 533 i add one more stick 512mb 533 now doing dual channel rock stable.... 667 was not like this at all....

but the funny part is 667 was rock stable on various stress tests and memtestx86 for hours, just wifi, video and audio was failing.... just data processing of any sort even encoding went on without problems....

when i encoded movies while previewing the encoding = hang
encoding without preview = no hang

you tell me...

I was on 667 since I started to use v3000.
And my record was 100 hours with wifi on, no problem at all. smile.gif

now with KVR 533 512MB x 2 dual channel seems the problem is gone... using 4 days already no problems at all.... i really lost for words..... dunno what to say.... it seems like i can even set up a server on my laptop using wifi....

we all know at different mhz ram timing are also different....
what is suspect......

Ram slot 1 - display card takes control partially.... changes the ram timing
Ram slot 2 - mainboard fully controls.... ram timing default......

maybe the ram timing that the display card chooses is timing for 533mhz even though the ram mhz is 667 and the other piece the mainboard uses different timing.... but since mhz same 667 it detects as dual channel....

but when some data sits partially on both pieces of ram then the problem comes....

there is no other way to explain why corsair 667 and kvr 667 1 piece 1 GB works but 2 pieces of 512x2 667 does not work.....

just my opinion.... any comments ?

QUOTE(EddieUSJ @ Jul 2 2007, 08:56 PM)
Yes..I send in my unit with a third party upgrade RAM..first a Kingston 1GB 667Mhz.then I upgraded to Corsair 2GB 667Mhz..to check if there is a compatibility issue with the rams. They found no problems with the rams..but if you ask..they will always advise you to use only HP rams..and they are damn expensive...
I think you have the same prob that I had...and my advise to you is to go HP and get them to fix it before your warranty expires.
