anyone want to get another stick of the 512mb ram that comes with it? purely asking, can pm me for details. cause i just upgraded to 2gb, looking for compaq fellas who want another 512mb to raise the mem up to 1gb

no such thing, i have heard of a hp buying 2gb ram kit from the hp/compaq themselves, and is certified to be able to run with no problems. plugged it in and BSOD. even the ram manufacturer took the lappie in for 3 days to see why the CERTIFIED ram could not run on the lappie but couldnt find the solution to it.

it's simple. if u send it by yourself, u save time. if u send back to the shop, they'll wait until they have enough lappies collected, and then only send one shot to the hp service centre, which will take more time la.

as mentioned by one of the forumer earlier, u can ask your friend to send in for u, just make sure he/she knows what is the problem with your lappie when the technician ask them

LOL! that's the most cool feature on the lappie i'd say, wakakaka touch sensitive quick launch buttons...even my friends who are on fujitsu was also glued and impress to the touch sensitive buttons...

definately the RAM issue. take it back to the shop and ask them to test their RAMs until u are satisfied that u can run everything normally on your laptop.

mine i bought 2gb kit, also kingston value ram. the first 2 kits were having problems with my dvd-rw drive, causing problems with the reading and burning of cds...the third time got the some kind of china chips, then ok already...

As i've said earlier, do not overgeneralize the rams. even if u buy the HP certified compatible RAM also would have problem, as one of my friend had got the CERTIFIED RAM from HP and it still gives problem in memtest86+.

buying non-HP rams could be compatible too, and i am using 2x1GB of KVR DDR533 rams, took me 2 times to change with the shop before could get it to work. reason? the chips that are on the ram. afaik, hynix and elpida ram chips would not work, i went ahead and another brand of chip (forgot, will post the chip brand when i get back home, now i'm in uni) and it worked.

so not necessarily that the certified rams would 100% work, nor outside ram will 100% work. the safest way? bring a copy of memtest86+ (since all lappies have no floppy, then download the .iso file and burn a cd) and then test at the shop to reduce hassle.

OK! to answer the question...(btw today just helped my friend's 2 laptop from acer. both of her laptops even the acer standard ram also giving errors in the memtest86+, now have to wait for the acer technician to check)

2) What do i do after that?

Latest version is 1.70, and up to u whether u'd want the .iso file or the .zip file. the bootable binary is using floppy, the bootable iso is using cd. so if your lappie dont have floppy (i presume all V3000 series doesnt come with floppy by default), so download the iso and burn it using nero or whatever burning software u use

3) Reboot your PC with the CD inside

4) Press F2 (double check, kinda forget since i never go into laptop's bios cause can't tweak anything ) and select the boot order to CD-ROM/DVD-RW (whatever is your cd drive la)

5) Save and exit, and let it boot up, it'll read from the cd.

6) Memtest86+ will load from the CD and start testing, there's 8 tests all together, and make sure none fails. if got failure, then the ram boleh buang

what do u expect from a laptop? burn cd at 52x? man, u are a bigger piece of crap yourself. and do note, with ati chipsets once startup u can straight away use, but what i've noticed with nvidia boards is it takes a few moments before everything is loaded and ready to go.

why u like to generalize? acer also has problem wut, i got 2 5051 from acer, even the original ram can't pass memtest86+ @ 5-5-15 at CL5 ok? and 5051 comes with a standard 533 ram for the whole production, but they misplaced one 667 into one of the two lappies...

went yesterday and sat down with them to troubleshoot, but then still can't fix it, they're surrendering and calling the acer technician to settle.

what my point here is saying is that don't just over-generalize on problems for one manufacturer. everything sure got its fair share of problem, and it's us who gives it chance to improve.

depends on the CD that u buy la. sometimes u buy those CDs are already farked up, like my friend. he bought movies from those CD shops, came back like cannot play cause the CD itself was problematic and one even had scratch on it...

did u too upgrade extra 667 ram? if u did, i think that might be the problem. my news source says that the new compaqs are equipped now with 533 instead of 667 as most of the 667s are incompatible and gave a lot of errors...compaq even released 4 updates at one time to fix this issue

try elpida instead, i had luck with that...
it's not missing drivers, it's just the ram. btw u bought 667 or 533? if u got 667, try downgrading it to 533. 99.9% chance u are better off with 533 instead of 667

as said, i dunno why, 533 is more likely to work than 667...

if claim for warranty, best u bring it to the HP centre yourself, at most about 2 weeks. if u go through your dealer, it's wayyyy longer than 2 weeks...

meaning u use *ahem* windows is it?
that i dunno whether your claims valid or not, cause last time they do not entertain laptops with windows but dont have the COA sticker...

safest? there are failures too regarding HP certified RAM, i'd watch your words if i were u
