Regarding the concern about unlocking void warranty or not, here's what i've got from MIUI Moderator
QUOTE Hi, unlocking bootloader will not void your warranty. But if the device is bricked/dead during unsuccessful flashing of custom ROMs or recoveries, then it may cause issues while claiming warranty. QUOTE Nope warranty won't be voided !. But if you've to claim warranty, flash MIUI first and then take it to service centre. If service centre found custom rom in it then they may reject it. Hope this answers all the doubts here |

QUOTE(GameSky @ Apr 30 2016, 08:27 PM) seems cant fastboot to flash dev rom to unlock, read it have to flash stable cn rom first, then dev rom to unlock bl received device locked when tried to flash fastboot on cn dev.. later gonna try again QUOTE(skypeace @ Apr 30 2016, 10:16 PM) Refer to guide on miui forum on how to flash. Basically, those that already get approval, the basic steps are as follow:1. Flash China Stable ROM using MiFlash. 2. Flash China DEVELOPER ROM using the Updater App in China STABLE ROM. 3. Once China DEVELOPER ROM installed, proceed to unlocking. 4. Flash whatever you want using twrp/Mi recovery. |

QUOTE(GameSky @ May 1 2016, 12:23 AM) Apparently if there's locked device status, need to set to EDL mode, as in Yup.. Correct.. We can't flash fastboot rom through fastboot if the device is locked. Hence that is why can only flash using EDL mode. Once unlocked, then and only then can flash using fastboot.http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html now successfully flashed the miui CN via edl mode, going to unlock it later on |

QUOTE(GameSky @ May 1 2016, 12:44 AM) no wonder, earlier i was logged in via email on my phone ..same email used in my mi account but it doesn't link, not sure why. Make sure to flash global rom using MI Recovery. After that only flash twrp and root. now unlocked, official way time to flash twrp, global rom and root. You can directly flash global rom in twrp, but you have to modify the boot.img first before flashing. |

QUOTE(febreze2xxx @ May 1 2016, 07:32 AM) Caution: When you ticked, Mount system partition read-only, you will get OTA updates for the Official ROM and not otherwise, as shown below:- Leave the system unmodified to allow ota updates. If wifi can't turn on, means you flash wrong boot.img version. on this step should I tick if I want to get OTA updates for global rom? and my wifi can't be turned on. Check if your modified boot.img is same as your version. Eg : 7.2.3.0 with 7.2.3.0 |

QUOTE(febreze2xxx @ May 1 2016, 08:48 AM) No wonder. I have updated via OTA so my initial boot cant be used any more. Need to do again. Now downloading official rom and change the boot loader. You unlocked officially right? Update: If you use fastboot rom need to find fastboot boot file. Cannot use the the recovery file boot img instead. It will boot loop. Yes don't mix it. But since you unlock officially, use twrp better. Just don't forget to modify the boot.img before flashing. 1. Flash twrp 2. Factory reset 3. Flash 7.2.3.0 global stable recovery rom(with boot.img replaced in the zip file) OR 3. Flash 7.2.3.0 stock recovery rom(without boot.img replaced in the zip file) 4. Flash the modified boot.img inside the twrp itself. 5. Wipe cache/dalvik. Reboot |

QUOTE(febreze2xxx @ May 1 2016, 08:56 AM) Yup. thx. Find out the hard way. You can update using OTA but need to flash modified boot.img again if I'm not mistaken. OR you can update OTA using OTA zip via twrp instead. Well thus this mean any OTA update will screw us with no wifi problem? But then, even I'm not so sure about this as never tried update with OTA before. Right now I'm waiting for MIUI 8 |

QUOTE(febreze2xxx @ May 1 2016, 09:20 AM) Yeah so much hassle. Better wait major update before changing. You unlock officially or not? The steps I provide only for unlock officially. For unlock unofficially refers to other guide as it is more hassle and lengthyNow I have new problem. It will bootloop if I install super SU. dang it. what if unoffial way? no need to do it? |

Those that unlocked officially, check out this twrp(modified) to allow flashing of MIUI ROM without having to flash/modify your boot.img

QUOTE(AhMoon @ May 2 2016, 11:51 PM) Will it be possible to use GLOBAL ROM (meant for QualComm set) on AP set, which happens to be MTK model? What will happen if I apply GLOBAL ROM on MTK set? No. You can't. You can only use Global ROM meant for Qualcolmm set(regardless of AP or not). But you can't use Global ROM meant for Qualcolmm on MTK device. It will hardbrick your device. |

QUOTE(Leon be here now @ May 3 2016, 08:47 AM) My uncle has bought a Redmi 3 phone from China Amazon 16GB version I assume its MTK version. Redmi 3 or Redmi 3 Note? He says its in Chinese and no google store etc.. He says now google play store etc.... It is possible to turn switch the OS from chinese to English? there for no need to flash rom? even with chinese rom he can install playstore and google stuff? -use mi appstore to install google play store then install this normal whatsapp etc.... or does mi appstore already have whatsapp etc... Even China stable they have English language if I'm not mistaken. Regarding Playstore can find guide on the net. Plenty of it. |
