A good step to making its cameras more acceptable from a marketing standpoint. xD cards are a deal breaker to some purchasers. I believe Fujifilm finally realized that it doesn't have the clout of Sony to promote its own proprietary memory format. Anyhow, SD cards are a dime a dozen and available everywhere.

Now all Fujifilm has to do to improve its products is to add stabilization and wide angle option (28mm film equivalent) to complete the perfection.

Looking at the specs, the F40fd is no where near the F31fd.

If Fuji throws in the wide angle into the F31fd..., I throw in my $$ to get one straight away. Then, it will be THE ultimate compact camera (for me at least)

Or better yet; make one with the features of the Ricoh R4. Ok...I am getting greedy.

cannot compare to f31fd, they are of different model

-F31fd replaced the F30, F30 replaced the F11 (manual control line)
max iso 3200

-F40fd replaced the F20, F20 replaced the F10 (automatic line)
max iso 2000

Sometimes I wonder what criteria the marketing department uses when it numbers a model?

F40fd battery life is 300 shot only while F31fd is 580 Shoot

F31fd 92.7 x 56.7 x 27.8 mm (3.6 x 2.2 x 1.1 in) 6 megapixel 1/1.7" Super CCD

F40fd 95.7 x 59.0 x 23.3mm (3.8 x 2.3 x 0.9 in) 8 megapixel 1/1.6" Super CCD

but both is using Super CCD HR VI and Fujifilm's Real Photo Processor II with FD technology , Weight is the same

but best things shld be F40fd support SD .

F40fd equip with a bigger Super CCD ,would it make the photo quality better ? guess without testing ,we wouldnt knw the result tongue.gif

sorry...noob Q..isn't the F31fd CCD size bigger than the F40fd?. If it's correct, the F40fd packs more megapixel in a smaller CCD compared to the F31fd. From whatever little that I've read about co-relation between CCD size and pix quality, less pixel on a bigger CCD should produce better pix. But not sure lah, if I remember it correctly.

According to released specifications, the F40fd has a larger CCD (1/1.6") than the F31fd (1/1.7").

And yes, as a rule of thumb, a larger sensor having equal amount of photosites will produce less noise than a smaller sensor.
