So this is going to cause many people to flame me, but still, read on for people who has logic and common sense.

Don't port out if you still have contract.

There, I said it!

I'm no math guru, and I hate math. But if my simple calculation says, you are throwing money away, you most likely are.

One post got viral about some guy paying the 700 penalty and got a celcom. My dad is still on contract and have 1 year left for iValue with the iphone 6 package.

Sure, out of the hype and impulsive behaviour of the influence of social media and peer pressure (or what have you), my dad wanted to join the bandwagon also.

But after I calculate, it's not worth it. So now he's paying 100 per month, has 2GB of data to use, and never finishes it at all every month. If he decides to terminate, he has to pay 1.2k for the remaining 12 months left of his contract, to get celcom's 10GB (actually 5GB, the extra 5GB is BS, sorry).

Sure, he save 20 bucks. rclxms.gif Good or bad? BAD.

Why throw 1.2k at maxis? I ask. Are you gonna use up the 5GB every month? Are you gonna talk on the phone until it explodes? NO. No, no and no.

Suck it up, finish the 1 year, and then say goodbye. Don' act on impulsive behavior. It's like buying property. Calculate, ask questions, if in doubt don't buy it and wait for a better deal.

Edit: It turns out that it might not actually be 1.2k based on the fact that I see many claim it's not the exact monthly figure for the penalty. In such case, I'm wrong and I'll look into bugging maxis for the actual figure. Thanks to those who comment. thumbsup.gif

Everyone's case is different, yours is just that you will have contract 1year+

For others who don't have contract anymore, why not port out for better choice

Yep, everyone has their own story. The original complain was not about someone who has contract.

But it affected everyone, including people who's still in contract. Sometimes people never think hard enough and want to join in the hype.

My post is all about people who's stil in contract. If already finish, just do whatever you want lol.

that is he choose to change to celcom
my calculation..
contract end feb next year, hence 10 months
last time, i call penalty is rm600
ivalue 100 iphone 6 plan

if pay penalty rm600
monthly save if i change to umobile u28 (3gb data, 55min free call to all network-which is enough for my usage, and 300 free sms)
100 - 30 (rm28 + 6%GST- to make it easier) =rm70 save per month

Rm70 save monthly x 10 months (contract that I initially tied= Rm700
so i save more even when i paid the penalty and MNP

Shit, looks like it's my calculation wrong. It seems like early termination is not equivilent to the monthly payment left in the contract?

I should really call up maxis and ask for the actual figure.

Thanks for the headsup guys. If I can pull it off at RM 700 and below then its worth it.

For me, not so much on money. I port out simply I dislike how maxis handle the whole fiasco. Double standard and poor customer service, yet you take pride in your customer service? Go pull a quick one somewhere else. Otw, to maxis Centre now to port my mums number. /yay

TS uses a wrong formulae to calculate his penalty, thats why he said not worth it. In fact , the correct calculations is phone rrp (-) maxis selling price = amount of subsidies / contract tenure x number of remaining months +RM100. In other words, the penalty that he needs to pay is definitely below RM1,200.

Yes .. this i do agree. I am in PJ, Jalan Templer and their 4G SUCKS big time. Most times only available 3G and that also sucks!

My company have also complained many times with celcom management but till today still no result. It seems that their towers to do not really overlap, thus those in the area in between suffers.

Yes, that is the problem with Celcom at my house area. When I was using Celcom, my phone wouldn't ring then few minutes later I'd get an SMS about how I have a couple of missed calls. When I called Celcom with regards to this issue, they told me they don't know what's wrong coz they checked my house address and it's within coverage area. They asked me to give them some time to investigate. Sure enough, a couple of days later I received a call from their officer who told me that my house (and a few other houses nearby) was in this grey area which is in between two towers and therefore the coverage was inconsistent. There is no solution to his unless they put up another tower which they won't.

my case, 7 months to go and penalty is RM350...
if shift to celcom save RM20 and just to get 10GB...

if switch = 80*7 + RM350 = RM910 (5GB all time and 5GB is weekend only)
if stay and up grade to MOP = 128*7 = RM896 (8GB coming soon and unlimited call)

my bet is to stay with MOP

It makes sense for you to stay put with MOP for the time being.

7 months later after your contract over. What would you do? Stay with MOP or port out?

I already stated earlier in a thread that its so stupid to pay the penalties to port out . some pay up to a few k to port out. It just doesnt make sense.

Alot of them jump on the bandwagon. Some of them want attn on facebook. Jokers la. In the end , u are giving Maxis huge cash upfront . And when they improve their plans, u clowns jump back to Maxis .

If u are on contract , pls dont port out!

I think you are right. If penalty is too much it is wiser to wait until contract is over before porting out. If penalty small then decision to port out is easier.

However MaxShit got to understand that if people are willing to port out with penalty (a lot or not a lot of penalty) it means MaxShit subscribers are really pissed and angry. So pissed and angry that some people do not mind paying penalty. So you can imagine the mess MaxShit is in now.

So I find it very funny that MaxShit still continue to discriminate, this time against users of other plans. Now sure users of other plans will be pissed.

The thing is many ported out. But the ones that paid a huge penalty to port out are very few.

Those who ported out without penalty can always port back in when the offer gets better.

The idiots are the ones paying huge penalty to port out. Eventually Maxis had to improve their plan. So it was just down to impulsive behaviour and jumping on the bandwagon. At the end of the day, they will be the biggest losers, not Maxis.

It is not true the biggest losers are the one who ported with penalty. The biggest loser is MaxShit.

The whole telco industry is talking about MaxShit. Millions of subscribers are talking about MaxShit. Unfortunately the talk is mostly bad. Can you imagine the damage done to MaxShit's brand name? Have MaxShit considered how much more they have to do to win back the subscribers?

If this impulsive behavior can overrule rational thinking of pain of penalty, you know the level of anger is tremendous.

I really doubt MaxShit's penalty income will exceed the loss in revenue from subscribers who ported out. Also, penalty income is one off, loss of subscribers income is long term. Let's wait for research analysts' reports on MaxShit later on how badly this issue affect MaxShit. Many people would love to find out.

This MaxShit fiasco like some forumers said, will be a case study for marketing and business students. This MaxShit disaster is going to be a legend.
