Thanks alot. So part 1 grads here would have priority to take part 2 in the partner unis. Now i get it.
Lets say i make it as an architect, how will working life be? 9 to 5 in office? Or is it flexible? Hard pressed for time? Or you can draw / work at home and submit to client / firm before dateline? Cause after reading the entire 19 pages, now architecture sounds kinda good and intriguing to me |

Right. Okay thanks. Another thing i want to know very in depth is also about working life.. How do you get your projects, and what sort of clients would an ordinary non-specialized architect get? Residential homes? Skyscrapers? Government projects? Airports? High rise buildings? Shophouses?

I think i'm asking this question for the second time or was it in another forum? I'm enquiring deeply into the job prospects for this course. Some people tell me architecturial jobs are diminishing, others say its flourishing. Some say when theres an economic resession, you'll be the first one to go down. Can you give me a detailed explanation and comment regarding this matter please? I'm kinda swaying between architecture and accountancy so i'll wanna gauge this matter carefully =) Thank you.

I've a friend (housemate) that just got accepted by the AA o.O
He flew all the way to london to attend the interviews and he got it! I was like wtf!! You fly all the way to the uk just to sit for the interviews, what if you didn't get it? That would be such a waste of $$ =/ But then, his father is in the architecture line so no problem for him i guess. I envy him! Lol. I'm planning to take up this course, but i'm still keeping my options open for accountancy. Can anyone give me the pros and cons over accountancy? I personally have done my homework, so i'll list it down here. Anyone who wants to help me choose archi over accountancy can do so here Archi : Pros -More exciting -Less common (i do NOT like common things, same goes for a career) -I think i'd be very satisfied to work as an architect, so job satisfaction is good to go Cons -Its a looong course. Longer than most courses of study.. to get a part II, its like 5 years =/ -Its a very hard course. Thats what i heard... some people tell me its so hard you'll be studying and doing projects all day long until 3 am and wake up again just to continue studying. No social life AT ALL =/ that wouldn't do for me really.. i'm an outgoing kinda guy. -If economy goes down, i'll go down too Edit : Oh yeah, please note that i'm comparing it with accountancy (chartered accountant or management accountant for me if i'm going into accountancy) This post has been edited by Grimm: Jun 12 2007, 01:00 PM |

Architect lah. Practicing architects will go down, he's in the education line wont affect him. I guess thats what he means =)) Hmm, so med is the only course longer than that eh? I'll have to decide between the two soon, as i just finished my A Levels today. Decisions decisions decisions!!

I'm thinking really deeply into this. My parents say they could send me for the Taylors-Melbourne pathway but it would be a hell of a burden for them. 400k in total, after calculations.
My understanding is this : 3 years Diploma in taylors college pj 1 year Degree in Environmental Science (equivalent to part I) 2 years Masters in Architecture (equivalent to part II) My question is, will i be able to work part time while studying in Melb? To sort of lighten my parents burden or if possible nullify the living expenses? Is taking the degree/masters in melbourne uni going to be real time consuming and exhausting? Or would i be able to squeeze some time for part time jobs? I wouldn't mind being a draughtsperson or whatever, just wanna earn some money and if possible get some working experience in the process. I'm hoping the course isn't very taxing, so i can work a little. If anyone could answer my question, it'd be very much appreciated. PS : if i wanted to go to RMIT, what would be the pathway? Btw, my qualification is A Levels graduate for now. Waiting for results in august. |

No one can tell me? o.O
Finance is really a problem here. Also i wanna ask, can i take this route? 3 years diploma in taylors then i hop to RMIT or University of Queensland (both are not taylors partner universities) hoping the cost of living is lower in queensland. or if in RMIT, hoping to save costs on tuition fees. |

QUOTE if u're going to RMIT with a taylor's diploma, similar problem might occur. but since RMIT does not have a partnership with taylor's, u'll join 2nd year instead. Hmm. So that means I will lose out one year if i join RMIT rather than Melb U? As in, if i go into RMIT, they'll put me in 2nd year, so i gotta do 2nd and 3rd year to finish the degree in Architecturial Studies, and if i continue in Melb, i go straight to the final year, in which i only do 3rd year and get my degree in Architecturial Studies? RMIT is also in melbourne, so the only difference between studying there and melbourne would be only the tuition fees right? Hmm.. |
