i voted for Others
it was a non-branded PSU that came with the casing and it was the only cap ayam PSU that ever died on me.
Other cap ayam PSUs on my other PCs are still running fine.
Of course I myself use AcBel but its only been a year so I really cant boast of how reliable this PSU is, but so far so good smile.gif

I use ICute 450W ... so far so good. However, with so many of you saying your ICute kong and affected other hardware, I'm starting to get nervous ... Mobo, GC, CPU is not cheap!

Anyone wanna donate some busted Icute PSU's?..I'd like to have a go dissect them and see what are the likely causes that cause failure..of course I'll report back and let you guys know.
From experience, I know of some likely causes but just wanna confirm my suspicions.
Anyone?..

But some time PSU fail is becozz of 'burn fuse'. I use cap ayam PSU for my old rig too. Get strike by lightnng then cant function arldy. But aft change fuse it works fine..
I-Cute PSU get higest vote might becoz some minor problem like 'burn fuse'.. and so many ppl using I-Cute, and mayb its the reason I-Cute get highest votes.
65 votes for I CUte means 65 persons using it.. Its 5 to 6 times higher than Power Logic and Enlight ( which in same tier with I Cute).
Bad quality + high availability = Highest votes.

Edit: So another conclusion can be made is Malasians like using cheap PSU, even know it is not good. Pathetic is 45% ppl who voted this poll using I-Cute (including me).

As far as I've seen in many PSU's, these manufacturers use run of the mill caps, switching transistors, resistors, regulators and other parts..nothing really outstanding. They'll fail in a few years or go bonkers!..especially with Chinese made capacitors..cannot be trusted and have gained a bad reputation. Look!..top mobo manufacturers use perhaps the best caps from Nichicon, Elna and Rubycon..nothing less..it pays off for best stability and reliability.
My own, NOT one of those hyped brands PSU is modded with the best caps+ better diodes I could find..and its been now 3 years..still very stable!.

Most of the caps for long last is Japaneses capacitor Nichicon or rubycon...... etc & base on quality component parts..... bcoz PSU inside component sure got alot of heat produce inside that PSU box...... after OC yr system..... better watch out those caps see whether got bulgy or not due to generated alot of heat from that component inside too..... sweat.gif

those caps are rated for 105C

i dun think a normal PSU with sufficient airflow goes more than 50C

even the air outputted by my vga card at 55C feels warmer than the air outputted by the PSU

Buldging or burst capacitors is perhaps a very recent phenomenon. Its coincidental the critters happen to be made in China and don't have a track record or repute of Japanese capacitor makers. This phenomenon never happened to capacitors in the past where its being used in all sorts of consumer electronics from TV's, radio, hifi..you name it. It happened when PC manufacturers started using cheap alternatives from China for obvious reasons. A domestic TV has hundreds of capacitors and possibly in a more hostile enviroment than the PC PSU, even then a TV can last 10 years more or less trouble free compared to motherboards and PSU which its lifespan is probably 3 years maximum, either by pre-mature failure or owner discard/upgrade. In actual fact, other than power ratings, most PSU circuitry is somewhat similar albeit cheap, nasty in a beautifully made package, all vulnerable to failure at anytime.

Bot chipalak and branded PSUs have failed me before sweat.gif

The worst of them all is MEC. Blown and took along the motherboard, 2 HDDs, FDD, and CD-ROM which is more or less the whole PC. It even amazed me with flashing blue sparks, thick brown smoke and sizzling sounds, not quite a "performance" I was expecting dry.gif

Next is an iCute, managed to run for 2 years before dying. I've also used AVF, A4 Tech, and a couple of brandless before, no problems running a basic setup consisting of P4 2.66GHz, standard Intel board, 512MB RAM, CD-ROM, FDD and HDD. Add another HDD into the system and the PSU dies, some after a minute while some managed a few days, a month at most tongue.gif

Last but not least, Enermax FMA 460W, the highly acclaimed PSU in the sub RM300 range. Only lasted half a year with system specs as listed on my sig. No overclocking what-so-ever, just folding with F@H for 24/7 and BTing. Sometimes will do minor gaming and video/graphics editing, I would shut off the system for a day once every month so the components could "rest". The PSU finally died ... or half-dead at least, intermittent power on shakehead.gif

Now using AcBel, so far so good (A few months ade) biggrin.gif

i would say its i-cute and worst e-master .... avoid them at all cost i had one whole complete rig burned down on the first day itself buying that bundled together casing and psu ...

worst the replacement unit also did the same thing and i requested for power logic which is still running fine till today

so far my antec worked flawlessly for 6 years nonstop (touch wood)
my acbel running for a year now np too

do bear in mind that all my pcs are either overclocked and or if not running 24/7 for a years nonstop only shutdown when there is a power failure or hardware upgrade...

Burn fuse is not normal issue. Stated on most PSUs that inside components are non-replaceable/fixable especially hit by lightning. The same thing I did with a chapalang PSU. I soldered another fused and the next thing you know the mobo kong after a few months. Also, everytime I start the PC got firewoks a bit in the PSU laugh.gif

Wah! that bad ah?..fireworks..that's serious sh*t!..and dangerous for your other expensive components inside.
Somehow manufacturers have intended PC PSU as non-repairable and buying new is anyone's only option.
Considering a chapalang PSU costing somewhere RM60-100(more or less), in case it develops a fault and all the effort, transport and technician's fee may cost more than half the cost of a brand new one with warranty..conclude it's not very economical isn't it?.
Anyway..PSU's are supposed to have the very best low impedence capacitors 105c inside for DC filtering circuitry and it just happens these caps are NEVER cheap..in fact the most expensive types compared to general purpose types. So, one can't blame manufacturers for sourcing the cheapest types from China and lowering costs for competition. The REAL DEAL PSU's I've seen in my day were those made and fitted in original IBM PC 8088XT CPU sets..they were built like a TANK and to specifications required.

If I were ever to replace my PSU, I'll void warranty and replace with the best parts I can find..at least I'm confident it lessens the chance of damaging my mobo, hard disk or other parts. I just don't trust manufacturers these days..too much hidden hanky panky.
