I'm starting my own online business but it will take some time to generate stable income.

I plan to allocate 2-3 hours every day to earn supporting income. Thinking of signing up to be a Uber driver, but will it be dangerous for females to drive around KL? How much is the average hourly earning?

among all 3 method - taxi, grabcar, and uber

uber is the safest for female drivers

1. uber accept credit card only, so it leaves a record of the customer if anything happened.

2. it also means most uber customers are probably have decent income and civilized, the chance to get rape also reduce (but I'm not saying rapist will not coming from someone who have income and educated)

3. customers can't select uber drivers, so basically nobody using it to target female drivers

From what i read about uber, i can assume it is pretty safe

No cash, route mark by gps, passenger need to key in their details(CC) any assault you can asked uber about their details no?

Maybe if you really go for it, you can equip yourself with pepper spray, better make it visible to the passeger so they know you are not an easy target, and those personal alarm key chain, high decible one....

And maybe you can request the passanger not to sit directly behind you, so you can observe your passenger behaviour...

Yup, just in case, prepare all sorts of weapons, knives, pepper spray, and be alert all the time.

never used uber, or similar taxi service.

but scenarios that could happen i can think of for the moments

- very lucrative, esp to hamsaps, as female taxi driver is a new thing ( might even gets fire from religious authority, oh well )
- you could be targeted if your passenger knows your details beforehand

that being said, you could venture into this, but just bring a pepper spray or a dagger somewhere in there.

I feel it's pretty safe. I use uber daily as a rider and I've had male/female drivers of varying ages.

The only thing I would do is maybe get another phone line just for uber. You don't want your personal number out there.

Note that the rider will know your details eg Name, Car Type, Car No Plate, Phone Number, Face.

With these details it is very easy to stalk you. There may br some consequences to it.

In any case, do install a dashcam for better personal safety.

this is true, the number will be made known to the requester.

register another line just for use of uber.

i have met some uber drivers which ask me to call them on their phone number instead of using uber to order new drivers the next time.

so they don't charge using uber device but still use similar program to calculate the route price.

the driver was very friendly so i just ok la, i call him and he come fetch me and i paid him in cash.

he also need money and uber tax some of your earnings, this way can count i am tipping him?

The Driver I took in Tokyo and Taipei are Female.

Taipei one is BMW, doing online business and once in a while do uber for 3-4 hours a day for straight 2-3 days if she's around Songshan or Zhongzheng.

Tokyo only have uber black back in the days, have lots of credit and tried once..
Black Limousine, female drive. Quite an experience because I ask to drop in-front of Shibuya's Tower Record, all the passer-by thought famous people or what.

I have some additional info on your comment.

Uber Guarantee hourly rate RM30 only applicable for uber partner who meet the tier 1 incentive
To achieve tier 1 GH,
1) Required RM500 gross fare per week
2) 100% trips acceptance during these hour
3) Complete minimum 1 trip per hour
4) Maintain weekly rating 4.3 above
5) Being online in core service area

Assume TS follow the advise to aim for GH from 6am to 9 am (Monday to Sunday)
She may need to earn RM71.42 in 3 hours per day. The suggestion is possible but not practical.

Tbh nothing's really safe in Malaysia. Always be on guard and if the passenger looks fishy then try your best to stay safe and drive at areas with high vehicle density.

There is always risk involved in everything so what you can possibly do is to minimize it, perhaps you can start off by driving morning/afternoon shift? Try to avoid night or late night trips..

I've decided not to do this. Gonna just find another source of extra income that I don't have to be paranoid and hold on to daggers and pepper sprays all the time.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions thumbsup.gif

uber also accept cash now lah.

Just be prepared. Like pepper spray and defense stick and so on. Negros are especially shitty. I am not being racist but all grab/uber drivers complain to me negros and some middle-easterners are the worst customers. Negros will ask you to be his "girlfriend".

But I guess you just need to learn how to defend yourself like in any other situatlion.

As a female Grab driver I've always felt there aren't much options for us to choose from when it comes to making side income. Even doing this Grab thingy part-time my bf doesn't allow me to drive at night sad.gif

- avoid night trip
- Only focus on city / familiar area
- prepare lots of 'cctv' in your car
- Expect the unexpected. Even the male driver always harass pretty lady passenger. You should expect the same if you are the driver

I'm starting my own online business but it will take some time to generate stable income.

I plan to allocate 2-3 hours every day to earn supporting income. Thinking of signing up to be a Uber driver, but will it be dangerous for females to drive around KL? How much is the average hourly earning?
*
I do NOT recommend it for Malaysia. Remember you HAVE to take the passenger to ANY destination even if you start from KL.

1. Yes, possible.
2. You have to take the passenger where he wants to go so not possible.
3. CCTV is not going to help if the passenger wants to get nasty.
4. How will this help? You are already in the same car with a passenger who may turn out to be a robber/rapist.

In general I think female Uber drivers should be fine if they don't operate at night and provided they are not too pretty. Prepare a pepper spray within easy reach in case of any trouble. If you see a group of Bangla want to get in, lock your doors, cancel the trip and go.
