smile.gif Hi, i just save some files. the type of the files is .dat or video cd movie. It only contains songs but no movie. How to convert this "video cd movie" to "mp3" or "wav"?

it's not an ordinary .dat files .. i think. i used the vcd cutter (after read that we can convert from dat to mp3) but failed. Somehow it said "file cannot be found" so i double check. the file is still in the folder that i browsed.

could anyone help me pls? virtualdub cannot help. doesn't support this file ?? rclxub.gif

any software recommended? hmm.gif

err, simpler explanation...

my guess is:

the song is not in your computer, it's in the server. the file in your computer is just a link to the song at the server.

It's possible like flysheep said..It just a streaming file. The "original" file maybe in the server.

Try with another software :
1. VCDGear (convert into MPEG)
2. SUPER

Another trick you might want to try is to open it using Notepad or Wordpad. Launch Notepad/Wordpad. File > Open (select all file). This is an example for Google Video (GVP) which is metadata only. The actual video is at the server.

Switch off your modem. Now try the file again. If it can't play it means the file is streaming media. It means the file you have on your harddisk must use the internet to get the actual song file on another computer on the World Wide Web. What you have on your harddisk is not the song file. The actual song file is on someone's harddisk somewhere in the world!

Hm... dat files are usually in VCDs, and it is usually mpeg format.

You said can play it right?

I reccommend you play it with Media Player Classic, and check its properties. There, you can find some info on the files. I think if it contain video, it will show the format, and also, the sound codec as well.

MPC can be installed with K-Lite Codec pack.
