No rain X wiper will spoil too. Its just a time. Silicon wiper last longer but not its clip or bracket. Its a rubber & plastic.

This has been asked for years since the Rain-X introduced. No, it will not damage wiper rubber either normal or silicone type. The wiper get damage by weather and also UV from sun.

The only problem some people see it that once the Rain-X worn off the windshield the wiper shudder because the wiper blade probably has be coated with the Rain-X earlier from fresh application of Rain-X.

So, Rain-X is good for car that does not has wiper laugh.gif . I almost never use wiper, so Raix-X does wonder in my case, but it does not shudder also on my car wink.gif

complete bulshit that guy told u
i've been using rainX since i start owning car 11 years ago.
yes it will damage ur wiper IF..

1. WET THE WIPER WITH THE LIQUID!

so please apply rainX and let it sip through ur glass fractures..and dry
so i suggest apply it during sunny day.
1. wash windshield with soap throughly and let it dry.
2. then apply rainx, apply evenly and let it dry.

IMO, If your car is parked in the hot sun often, wipers being rubber, will deteriorate and harden faster. Afterall wipers are consumables and changed when it doesn't perform well. RainX can also encourage some deterioration but not as fast as hot sunlight and weather which will deteriorate anything including paintwork. Change when necessary, wipers are not made to last for long long time in Malaysia. At best is 5 years, if always parked in cool place and not used very often. It will age as usual, nevertheless.
I've used RainX sparingly on all my cars since the 80s and I reckon it serve its purpose on a very rainy session, I won't bother being penny wise pound foolish, just replace the wiper blades when I feel it need to be replaced. RM30 something for a pair for some decent branded set after say 2 years?

One wat to prolong the lifetime of your wiper is to lift it up when the car is parked under direct sunlight. The sunlight will heat up the mirror and the high temperature of the wind screen will spoil the rubber faster. I lift my wiper up every single time when parked under sunlight, guess what? It last me more than 6 months already, and it's still working perfectly now!! Simplest and easiest way to save money. don't need to get those expensive wipers and hope they will last long.

Rain-X works and it is only less than RM20. Cheap and cheerful, but please keep your windscreen clean.

A few reasons:
- Never clean the car
- Wrong application
- Simply do not care about car, but when it rains, complaint like a b!tch.
- Competitor

I use Rain-X and silicone wiper for so many years now.... ok aje.. takder pun apa2 problem.

perhaps it's because I always pull my wiper up when I am parking the car overnight.

p/s: my current DuraEdge silicone wiper has been with me for the past 5-6 years I think.

I have to disagree. I tried that, the wiper is still fine.

I think your application got problem, or your windscreen is simply too dirty.

still kena lo, and water doesnt stay on for long as it just eventually beads up and rolls off.

no harm putting since it only takes a few drops for both mirrors, and i still had the same bottle of rain x since 2011 or something?

Not sure if you use it right. For me, using Rain-X my wiper lasted at least 5 years laugh.gif because I never need to use it. If you want to use wiper, don't use Rain-X (or any other similar brand for similar purpose). Wiper and Rain-X don't mix really well together.

The main reason I did not use wiper is because over certain period it will just create micro surface scratch on wiper's path. That is why when it rain the part of the screen on wiper's path will just wet while the part that was never been touched by wipers the rain will still bead. Simply means once you use wiper, you need to always use it biggrin.gif

you must be traveling >90km/h.

for those who had jerking wiper.
1. wash screen with any car shampoo
2. wipe screen dry
3. polish screen with dry steel wool.
4. apply/polish with rain x

No, it is the surrounding that will get the rain fly of your windscreen, BUT not your speed.
Try >90km/j behind a lorry and see if the rain still fly off your windscreen.

I have done 50km/j in Cyberjaya, the rain still fly off. No cars in front, no building blocking at the side.

Also #3, polish with dry steel wool??? Have you done it before? I have seen it in youtube too.
I would suggest just get proper windscreen polish, less risk and same effect.

used PIAA silicone wiper for 6 years on my previous ride and never apply rain-x

never bother to lift up the wiper blade when park under hot sun

after so many years still no issue wiper noise and wiping capability, only normal car wash for the windscreen, occasion wax the windscreen as well with car wax and the wiper still no problem wiping

the only thing i did to prolong the wiper durability is to not turn on the wiper too early as the windscreen is not wet enough, since wiper can get damaged from the dust on windscreen

With rainX you still need the wiper to wipe off the stagnant water droplet on the windscreen. Unless you drive fast enough so that the droplet is blown away.

not properly applied. apply again, like polishing , circular motion..
normally l do it 3 x . apply > let dry 10 minutes > repeat 3x.
lastly after 30 min wipe off the whitest layer. kaw tim.
enjoy. no more juggling .

Depends on what quality of the silicone wiper you use. Some boneless silicone wiper can't completely wipe the surface of the windscreen as it jumps. Get a quality silicone wiper that can last you longer.

Rain-X is definitely make a difference and you can see the water beding effect after applying it and when the rains come, it will swirl off the direction of the wind goes. Lesser energy needed to operate the wiper.

do you have to clean like this before re-applying rain-x

There is no juddering.
I only re-apply when I feel that the rainX coating isn't effective anymore.

If I feel that the windscreen is not smooth, I will use a piece of old clay bar to clean the windscreen before applying RainX.

You can use polish compound to polish the windscreen to become smooth. just like applied rain x. culprit was the harden water stains.

How rain X dispel water is with its silicon compound. Its not really reliable, which is why after sometime cooked under the sun, it will peel off. This causes uneven surface which skips or jutters your wipers. You will need to re apply the compound over and over again, just to cover off the peeled spots.

I would recommend compound such as AGC/22. The ingredient consist of teflon which lasts a very long time. 8-12 months based on my experience after a single application. if the windscreen gets sticky, just use a green scotchbrite to scrub off the harden debris and you will still have the teflon layer exposed. Compound requires a bit of special handling and it will harden under UV. Highly recommended as its certified to be used under aircraft.

ChrisFix has a video about super cleaning your windshield. Basically, it's polishing your windshield as you would do with your car. It works very well and lasts around 6 months in his estimation.

It's not as easy as Rain-X but it works well.
