Hey everyone, I need some help and ideas on how to achieve this guitar tone (especially that palm muting, so awesome sounding);

the GazettE - Paralysis

During the intro riff is the exact tone I'm talking about. You can listen to the whole song to get a better idea of it and I would suggest panning your speakers to the right
because it is the right speaker's guitarist's tone I'm looking for. Although I suggest just listening to the intro riff, because you can only hear the guitar, without the added bass and drums.

I'm using a Spear T-200Q with a Bare Knuckle Pickup "Miracle Man" in the bridge and a Zoom G1Xon multi effects pedal going into a Roland Cube 20GX.

I've searched and scoured many things and played around with many EQ settings but still can't get a similar tone out of it..

If i'm not wrong, the Miracle Man should be capable of getting a fairly similar tone..

But I'm guessing if I really can't get a similar tone then maybe my amp, multi effects and guitar are just not good enough.

Hope you guys can help me out!! biggrin.gif

doesnt really matter what effects or pickups...can still achieve with cheap practice amp.
it sounds like drop-D or something related, C? B? dont care tongue.gif
but just get that and the attack and technique right and definitely more than halfway there.

Really?

Yeah, it is in drop B and I do have my guitar set up for drop B with gauge 12-60 strings.

Even with quite aggressive attack and technique, I cannot achieve that aggressive and fierce sounding palm mute and tone..

but their attack doesnt sound that aggressive.
just sounds controlled with some typical left hand muting also.
remember tone is in the fingers, which also involves the pick u use tongue.gif

Certainly their attack and right hand technique isn't very aggressive, but it's the aggressive sounding sound that they still have I'm looking for..

Is it the gain? EQ? Pedals?

They use mostly ESP or PRS in the studio and ESP live.

But i have no clue what kind of pickups and amps they use. I know that the guitarist loves to use a Tube Screamer and I know some of the pedals he uses for lead parts.

Yeah I have tried many things.. but maybe there is something I'm missing out.. I don't know what it is sad.gif

dunno man, to me it sounds very typical metalcore tone with abit of mids missing.

Maybe need to pick as close to bridge, your guitar bridge design should able to imitate it haha kinda megadeth riff gosok gosok at side of the pick.

Try on 4,5,6 string to guess if need lighter gauge, and play with pickup height too. Even with me20 boss can almost play jrock dustbox, xjapan, old gazette style.

It's alright, but thanks for your replies and time, I appreciate it biggrin.gif

I played with the EQ a little more and found a more similar tone with boosted treble, normal mids and less bass.
