Hmmm I'll have to reserve judgement on the game until we see more comparisons with the console version. I have the game on Xbox One, but haven't really played it much. Now that we know the game will be enhanced for Xbox One X, I want to see how the PC version stacks up when running in 4K.

I find it odd that PCs never really embraced Bluray as a storage medium. We do have Bluray drives on the market, but there's no real reason to have a BDROM or BDRW drive besides just playing Bluray movies. Are there even games that ship on BDROM?

That's great, tho why the sudden change of heart from Squeenix when their Final Fantasy series have always been focused on the PS and not on the PC (with the exception of VII, VIII, IX, X, XI and XIV)?

Btw, the last 2 are released to tap into the PC MMO market and since the majority of the games in the series are single-player, maybe Squeenix didn't see it as worthwhile to release it on the PC, I guess. hmm.gif

Hopefully the upcoming remake of FFVII will make it unto the PC, tho based on Squeenix's history, well... it's hard to say at this point.
*
Not that surprising though. The gap between the consoles and PC have considerably lessened, so the development process is similar. Both Xbox One and PS4 use AMD processors, with DX11 based GPUs.

In the past Square only focused on a single platform. All of the FF games before FFXIII only had a single target platform during the development phase. Also, Japanese game studios traditionally built their own engines before they even build the game. Since the engine was developed with a target platform in mind (PS1, PS2 etc) porting is often not straightforward.

Going forward I would expect faster turnaround time for PC ports, as it should be easier with the middleware engines like Unreal. I will definitely buy their PC efforts, in order to show support. Now where's Dissidia for PC?

That's only part of the story. I recall a report sometime last year (or the year before) that many Japanese developers prefer making videogames for the consoles instead of the PC because of the low market share for their games on the latter.

Regarding the topic of PC ports, the last single-player game Squeenix released on the PC is The Last Remnant, using the Unreal Engine. Hopefully with this FFVII remake using that engine, there is a possibility...

This is the 1st Final Fantasy title to use Unreal, tho.

Japan has in fact preferred console gaming over PC, unlike Korea. And of course, that's where the developers would focus on. But elsewhere, PC gaming is huge, so it only makes sense for them to consider PC development too.

Squeenix did say the reason behind using Unreal is to reduce development time for their games, as it will allow them to focus on content creation and not worry about the tools. Also, it allows easy development across multiple platforms.

witcher 3 @ 4k bring down the fps to around 30++.  sweat.gif
tho i use DSR instead of native 4k monitor. still freaking gorgeous, but the fast pace gameplay will make you go back 1440p to maintain 60fps (i play at 75fps)
*
Yup Witcher 3 at 4K 60fps is not achievable with my single GTX1080. Well it's not the Ti but still. 1600p is fine, but still seeing frame drops. So it's 1440p for me. Framerate is more important than resolution.

To me, I still prefer to game on my monitor than a 4K TV. On my GTX 970, I'm able to achieve 60fps on the Witcher 3 but there are times where it dipped below that, but still playable.

I have no doubt that FFXV will be able to run on my PC with my current card, but see how far Squeenix is willing to scale down their graphics in the final product. I don't plan to upgrade my PC anytime soon but see how it goes. hmm.gif
*
In my opinion though, FFXV is meant to be a high end gaming experience. Even when the game was still in development, Squeenix showed off a tech demo of Luminous engine running on a Geforce card. I immediately thought of a future FFXV release on PC, though it wasn't clear yet at that point if they were interested in releasing a PC version.

On the lower scale, I think we should be able to get by with a base 1080p/60 with Nvidia Gameworks effects off. This should be a match for the console versions. On the higher scale? It could mean not being able to hit 4k/60 with Nvidia Gameworks on as usual. In any case, I love that Japanese studios are embracing the potential muscle of PC gaming rather than just a straight port.

Ff7 also hv ppl dying wut main female character...
Hope 1080ti can run it on all ultra with no issues.
*
Luminous engine scales quite well I think. We can already see the differences between Xbox One and Xbox One X. Those are the ones with the lowest resolution and highest resolution on consoles respectively. An i7 level PC with a 1080ti can easily run circles around the console versions with default settings. Running on Ultra is certainly within expectation, unless we see unoptimized code like what happened with Batman Arkham Knight.

1080ti only enough for 1440p ultra (depends also).
no single GPU can do 4k @ 60fps for all available games (not selected).

syukur la can get 30fps @ 4k during walking / switch back to 1440p when combat  laugh.gif
*
Realistically a 1080 or 1080ti should be able to achieve1440p/60 with everything on. Maybe even 1600p on the 1080ti, but not 2160p. Again, I'd rather get 60fps on lower resolution rather than 4k/30.

Yup I also hope for slightly cheaper price for MY store. Maybe check out GMG too. GMG put a price of RM162.36 for the Steam version.

Well, Batman Arkham Knight was also featured as an Nvidia gameworks title. They even had game giveaways when buying selected Geforce cards. And when the game was released? There's a reason Batman Arkham Knight is always brought up as an unoptimized port.

Of course we don't know yet. I'll still get it to show support of course. And because I never touched my Xbox One version after the Stand by Me intro. Looking forward to playing it!

Something tells me this title is not quite optimized for the Nvidia Gameworks stuff. At just 1080p high quality settings, there's a lot of stuttering. The only smooth scene in the whole benchmark was the camp scene. I hope Nvidia can work together with Squeenix to get it running better before release.

Just tested in 4k too. Weirdly, some scenes were actually smoother in 4k compared to 1080p, though overall score is lower. Hmmm.

Well, there is definitely a massive difference between Standard and High settings. After changing from High to Standard on 1080p, my score immediately rose from 5625 to 11462. To my eyes at least, I noticed that the change is related to post processing effects like volumetric smoke and fog, soft object physics, hair physics, and maybe a difference in the lighting tech. Texture detail is tied to resolution, so that's why it looks almost the same at a glance.

On 4k however, the difference isn't too great. Changing the setting from High to Standard didn't make much difference. It sure does look like the game is GPU dependent, since a 1080ti with more RAM is getting much better results than a 1080, even when the CPU is better.

At first I also thought about it, but just to make things easier, Steam is the way to go. I don't necessarily hate Windows Store, but the games on Windows Store rarely gets discounted. Also, mod support is not allowed in Windows Store games, if you care about such things. I'm not sure if this has changed. Origin version should be the same as Steam version, but they also rarely get discounted. Steam titles by comparison often have seasonal sales, which may eventually get more purchases down the line.

RM146.22?! I'll get it if it's legit. I think is RM194.96 in GMG.
*
It's RM194.96 initially. If you have a discount code it will be cheaper. I think you can use the VIP20 code to get a 20% guaranteed discount. Just remember to enter the voucher code before you pay. I bought it for RM155.97 after 20% discount.

How to get 25%

I think im sold for 20%
*
It's sent only to specific members. Basically they send you an email to you personally. I don't know if the voucher can be shared though. In the past I've also gotten these kinds of special vouchers, but not this time. So I just used VIP20 code to get 20% off.

Not yet. You will receive an email notification when the game launches. Then you need to login to GMG, go to your game library, click on Final Fantasy XV. You will be given a serial key that you can activate in Steam.
