Can apple be the gaming machine?

Can apple overtake windows based PC as the gaming machine?

I think apple cant recently,because most of the game had less compatible to Mac system,only some of famous game had compatible to mac.And most of game are compatible with windows system.So i think not possible for this time

if you are into gaming with a tight budget, forget about Mac and just get yourself an ordinary PC to play games.
Seems you are a haavy gamer and i will say Mac will not suits you because Mac OS does not supports DOTA

if you are into serious gaming and wanted a Mac. Mac Pro will suits your needs. Else forget about Mac and get the money to get a PC

Not really a gamer, but would like to mix work and game sometimes. And I am so outdated, only recently did I come across DOTA ( while this game already here for 2 years )

I havent used a MAC yet,so I can't comment which platform is better for my work.

u need to "feel" between those machine = PC and Mac .

DEFINE "feel" ==> try use Mac and simplify thing . Then compare it , from your point of view.

yes,there are certain games are for Mac OS as well. I never mentioned that Warcraft is not supported anyway LOL, with the price of RM4000+ you can get a better option for gaming computer with decent graphic card and not GMA950 LOL

Very true babyk. Its funny how Mac users/supporters/fans can't accept the fact that when it comes to gaming,Windows/PC is still a better choice.

P/S:- Dun give comments like "PS3 is better!","Console also can mah". Console gaming n PC gaming is different.

MAC was not made for games. PERIOD.

light gaming can la, but it's not meant for serious / demanding gaming.

and you're pretty much limited even if you want to game on it, maybe last you a year or 2 but after that you're going to be sticking with your old games.

Hmm... here's something for a thought too. Now, for those who uses Oracle, you'll know what a resource hog it is right? Anyways...

There was once when I was importing the Compiere database into Oracle, on my Powerbook. This takes quite a while to do and is rather resource intensive, but I decided to look for trouble anyways.

Launched Neverwinternights, with all expansions and the graphics set to high details. Guess what? Ran perfectly smooth even with the Oracle processes throwing a temper tantrum in the background.

And this' when I was still on just 1GB ram too.

I don't think the Mac is even created for games! I actually regreted a little for choosing it over the PC because of the game library windows had. I just hope Halo 2 will be a Mac release too. I can't use boot camp(damn it) because my Mac is PowerPC

Windows > Mac for games. Even though World of Warcraft is supported on Mac. It was a hell to set the mouse sensitivity to my preference. The Mac OS X's default sensitivity + acceleration is not fast enough. There is a solution though, by using either SteerMouse or USB Overdrive but you have to sacrifice your Logitech Control Centre for your Logitech keyboard if you've got one.

So in the end, I stick to Windows for gaming and Mac for serious work.

well , you still need windows for gaming. I still have to boot to windows on my hac to play games. Well on my ppc macs i can't do that , oh wait with midtown madness yeah , on top of virtual pc..thats the game i can play. But once CrossOver kicks in , we can run windows games on top of osx...wheee no need to reb00t

If you want to play EVERY game out there in the market, then get a Windows PC. If you're not fussy then Macs have access to a whole load of great games.

Let's see... on my Mac, I've played Dungeon Siege (played 5 hrs non-stop till it hang my 4 year old mac cos of overheating ), Neverwinter Nights (I found out I could used my Ori PC serial to play online multiplayer), Warcraft 3, Fallout 2, Max Payne, The Sims, Myth2, Command & Conquer (classic) and some other games. I don't really play that much games on my Mac.

Well, depends on what you mean by 'overtaking'. Game library wise, sure, they are tonnes of games for Windows but I dare say 60% to 70% of the games out there are crap. At least on the Mac, though we have to wait a bit longer (hehe), we'd get only good games... well, there are some crappy ones as well. Great game like EV Nova was actually a Mac-only game till PC folks begged for it! Ironically, I believe Bungie first made Halo to be released on the Mac as well I think 'cos I remember reading about it in a Mac magazine before I even saw it on a PC game mag (I usually buy PC game mags).

However, my 4-year old plus G4 667mhz (yes... 667mhz!!) Powerbook with 32MB Radeon 7500 can run Halo and World of Warcraft at low settings (hehe... a bit hard to play la 'cos a bit laggy). Can your 667mhz Pentium PC on Windows run Halo and World of Warcraft?

I'm kinda dissapointed that the new MacBooks (iBooks replacements) came with Intel GMA though. At least the old iBooks had a decent low to mid range graphics card to run World of Warcraft. End of the day, if you want to buy a computer to play games, stick to using Windows (unless you're going console!).

sometimes i do play games on my intel duo core mac..

i use apple boot camp to boot into window xp
with 1 gb memory... i have no problem playing game with high setting..

with apple boot camp..it is really fast :-)

Yes.. But for me I have Windows in my Mac.. Window and Mac in one machine. I'd partitioned my MBP 30 G for Windows XP.. Only for gaming purpose.. The Battlefield 2412 run very decent that you cannot imagine with normal notebook.

For job purpose.. Of course I used Mac because Windows is such like crap.. even to convert file to PDF..

try PDF 995. works fine.

Sometimes, I just dun understand. If APPLE can be so powerful in doing the 3D graphical creating, how come it cannot support so much as of a game play??

The apples are wonderful machines and a joy to use. However, due to the costs, it has always been viewed as something for a niche market, especially those related to art, design, and publishing. Because of this, major gaming companies have been reluctant to publish titles on the Mac because they are concerned that the sales would not be worth the development effort. All comes down to dollars and cents.

Look at it from their point of view - you have x amount to develop a game. There are untold millions of PCs out there and millions of PC gamers, in homes and in cybercafes. Then you have the Macs which for the most part are only found in design companies or in universities, neither which are intended as primary games environments. Which platform would you focus on to give you the best chance of making a profit from the project?

I wish it wasnt so - in an ideal world, the Macs would be comparable to a PC in cost, and all the major publishers would release games for it. Until then we are stuck with PCs as the primary gaming computer.

not that the mac can't support gaming... generally, it's all about profit and marketability... publisher don't wanna fork out extra to port the game to another platform with low users demographics...

I think the price of MAC has dropped since. It is now much more affordable compare to last time.
