but all depends on playing style.
u can lower like electric, but will definitely get lots of buzzing if strummed hard. so i wouldn't really want to lower it that much... that said probably expect around rm100... of cos u can always call them to ask. This post has been edited by Everdying: Mar 28 2016, 04:22 PM |

QUOTE(Everdying @ Mar 28 2016, 04:21 PM) but all depends on playing style. They asked for 350rm. The explanation given was that my guitar's fretboard was made of rosewood so it's not even due to humidity differences between country of manufacture and malaysia. apparently due to this they have to do more work lowering the action and preventing buzz. Am I being taken for a ride? they seem to have been around for a long time with many Facebook reviews tho...u can lower like electric, but will definitely get lots of buzzing if strummed hard. so i wouldn't really want to lower it that much... that said probably expect around rm100... of cos u can always call them to ask. I'm new to this so I have no idea only thing related to humidity would be the back bulging so forcing the bridge up and higher, which obviously requires more work. but u just said action only... so really no idea wtf fretboard material has to do. |

I'm not sure if they mentioned the fretboard but they meant that some part of the guitar will be uneven due to humidity. But do u mean that there is no chance humidity has anything to do with the lowering of action?only thing related to humidity would be the back bulging so forcing the bridge up and higher, which obviously requires more work. but u just said action only... so really no idea wtf fretboard material has to do. Did u just say new guitar? Should be taken care by the shop for free if it's not a cheap guitar.I want to set up a new acoustic guitar. Anyone been to guitar hospital? If it's an expensive guitar, let a good guitar tech do for you. If it's a cheap guitar, no point, do yourself.. Good learning experience. If it's bulging/swelling, first thing I would do is to dehumidify it. Normally dehumidifying will solve 80% of the problem. Then I would see if I need to adjusts the neck or saddle. In my book, he truly does wonders to guitar setup to correct the action and intonation!I'm new to this so I have no idea |

1st survey the price for the part required to make your guitar action lower...then consider. Normal guitar just using universal plastic saddle on bridge and neck.

Unfortunately, it's already at the shop. I now want to find out if they had been truthful about what they said about my guitar. If it's an expensive guitar, let a good guitar tech do for you. To my eyes it did not look like it as it looked pretty normal but they said they needed some sort of technical instrument to measure that. |

I now want to find out if they had been truthful about what they said about my guitar. U bought it from a shop recently only? Normally if you go back to shop they will setup the guitar for you for free. Is it possible that a brand new guitar be swelling? To my eyes it did not look like it as it looked pretty normal but they said they needed some sort of technical instrument to measure that. It depends, new guitar may or may not swell. But new guitar normally comes with high action, therefore needs to be setup. Since you mentioned there were no swelling, I think your guitar just need a normal setup. QUOTE(gas4martin @ Mar 29 2016, 07:05 PM) In the end I took it back and brought it to a music shop, where the shop guy just anchored a crow bar in the indent below the fretboard and lifted it closer to the strings; 15 minutes. No mention of unevenness, swelling and humidity at all. |

Normally guitar setup needs to straighten the neck and at the same time sanding down the saddle as well as doing inotation check. |
