Last time I know only Samsung Galaxy Ace comes with mini sim.
Now all using micro sim or nano sim.
In future may totally skip the sim card.

More number of core don't means better performance.
Real usage wise, Snapdragon 615 already very sufficient on day to day usage. The real performance different is on software optimization, graphic chip performance, storage speed and ram speed, if you experience before even high end processor also facing lag.

Snapdragon 820 on raw performance are equally powerful on processor and graphic chip. Snapdragon 615/616/617 compromise much on graphic chip.
So, safe bet wise, pick Snapdragon 820, 810, 808, 652, 650 for guaranteed raw good perforamnce.
For mediatek, pick MTK Helio X10, X20 and X25, others simply not up to the mark.
For Huawei's Kirin, only pick 9XX series processor.

Between HTC 10 and Huawei P9, there should be no major different in day to day usage, but HTC 10 excel much more in graphic performance, won't have bottleneck running the highest end games. Huawei P9 will face bottleneck due to it's 3 times much inferior graphic chip.

I think Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro has gyro, but you need ask user in related thread to confirm it.
And yes, A8, A7, A5, A3 all don't has it.

If you don't mind 7" tablet with voice call, then ASUS Zenpad C Z170CG is your closest choice, but a lot of people complain it's reliability, a lot of hardware and software problem, so not much recommended.

If your can top up, closest choice has ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 6" version.
Ultimate choice is Xiaomi Mi Max with retail price of RM999, pricing should be same as or close to ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser 6", but with 3 times more powerful SoC.

If strictly below RM700, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus 64GB, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 64GB, and Xiaomi Mi A1 32GB are fall into these price range, where you can get 64GB storage (except Mi A1) at this sort of price.
If your dad is non high end gamer, these with 64GB storage are worth considering, suggest Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus at these 3 choices, only downside is no quick charge, 2 generation older less powerful processor, no 5Ghz WiFi support.

However, if you can top up a bit to RM739, you actually can get Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 32GB, and beat the rest at this price point.
It comes with full package at this price range, support Qualcomm Quick Charge, but quick charger not included out of the box (can buy OEM one online for around RM30), better overall camera than the rest, dual band 5Ghz WiFi AC support, 4000mah battery.

The recently launched ASUS Zenfone Max Pro 32GB also is worth considering if you buy at the flash sale price of RM599, all specs almost same as Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 32GB, but lack Quick Charge, but comes with bigger battery at 5000mah, no dual band WiFi, true triple slot for dedicated micro SD slot and 2 sims slot, true dual 4G standby.

Tough choice between Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 32GB and ASUS Zenfone Max Pro 32GB, even Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 32GB seems a bit better, you won't fully utilize it's benefit if you don't folk out extra like buying extra Quick Charger for Quick Charging, upgrade WiFi router and broadband speed to fully utilize 5Ghz WiFI AC speed, but not necessary if broadband speed is below 100mbps speed.

So, ASUS Zenfone Max Pro 32GB is top at RM599 selling price, but now may lack availability.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 32GB is top at RM739 selling price, you get what you paid for those extra features.

Definitely yes, this is the best you can buy at this sort of price.
Don't buy any other cheap subpar brand like Doogee, Homtom, Leagoo, Bluboo, Leeco, TP-Link, Alcatel, etc, as these won't come close to quality of Xiaomi at budget price.

The 64GB Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is your best choice with official Malaysia Warranty, Snapdragon 845. But top up around RM200, can get 128GB version.
Cons is, there is no headphone jack.

Others, not Snapdragon, Huawei Mate 10 (not the pro version) is your second best choice, 4000mah battery.
The Huawei P20 (not the pro version) may also come below RM2000, with better camera as well.

Then, cheaper option would be Huawei Honor 10, and Huawei Honor View 10 (around RM1599).
Those of course can't fight the P20 or Mate 10 on camera, then camera lack OIS, but using the same Kirin 970 AI processor.

You can compare these phone specs before buying.

You may find Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A , 16GB, 2GB RAM. (around RM435)
There is another Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime 32GB, 3GB RAM, with fingerprint scanner, but price already hike, not within your budget.

If you can stress your budget, at least get a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, 32GB 3GB RAM or ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1, with Snapdragon 636, not within your budget, but strongly recommended. (around RM699)
Those are with 4000mah battery and 5000mah battery, and with latest power saving processor, confirm provide long battery life.

Yes, maybe only Mi A2 can suit your need, if you strictly looking for pure Android.
Still, Oneplus 5T is your best replacement, if you can stress budget.
