if you love JRPG, i would say yes. the Vita is my primary machine for JRPG and other Japanese games.

the main differences between 1000 and 2000 :
- Vita 1000 uses OLED screen, Vita 2000 uses LCD screen.
- Vita 1000 uses proprietary charging port, Vita 2000 uses micro USB port
- Vita 1000 has estimated battery life of 3-5 hours of gameplay, Vita 2000 has estimated battery life of 4-6 hours of gameplay
- Vita 1000 is heavier, Vita 2000 is slimmer and lighter

the minimal differences between older 2000 and latest 2000 Vita :
- no anti-shatter film on later 2000 Vitas, pure glass with oleophobic coating
- matte housing on the front, rather than the glossy housing on older 2000 Vitas

im more active on PS4 than Vita. nowadays lazy to hunt Vita games, albeit having plenty of backlog there.

90% guarantee no changes, just only color choices.
if you wanna reduce fingerprints, avoid the older colors of PS Vita. they used glossy plastic instead of matte.

Blame Sony HK, as they're the ones that decides the version of the game (for R3 at least).

Nah, my backlogs are ever increasing ones. The Vita games that i played are lesser than my PS4.

The Vita is left beside my laptop and been idle for few months LMAO. Currently waiting for Tokyo Xanadu, so I can lay off My PS4 for a while.
