Not really, chinese name can be 1 or 2 characters
chinese surname can be 1 or 2 characters.
the minimum name = 1 surname + 1 name
max name = 2 surname + 2 name
example:
the famous actor OuYang Zhen Hua is 4 chars, OuYang is his surname
But Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, SG usually use 2 char names, because we are southern chinese, using 2 char names sound more soft, polite and educated.
China basically dominate by northern chinese, where they are more macho and direct, they prefer to use single char name to sound more straight forward and easy to remember.
oh i see..... What about those ppl from the 3 Kingdoms period? For example...Guan Yu. His name is Guan Yun Chang. Guan Yu is just a nickname?chinese surname can be 1 or 2 characters.
