Correct me if I'm wrong, fireworks can be taken using Bulb. I'm not sure about the apertures setting though, smallest?

You cannot use bulb for nice firework shoots, the explosion might scatter, spoiling the formation.

QUOTE(kelvinyam @ Jan 1 2007, 02:54 AM) I shoot them as they explode, it took years of exposure knowledge, precision, timing and knowledge of how firework's work. I usually will fill up the entire frame with the formation when they explode, so the exposure can be good enough to hendheld. Firstly you loose couple of shots to get the exposure reading, use the same reading the copy it in Manual Mode. When the firework launches into the sky you should've half-shuttered, when it explodes into a huge formation just full press the shutter, that's the trick! From then on you can shoot one after another without a problem. |

shooting under/very close to the fireworks spot seems not attracting.. |

Yeah, it's another way of shooting actually, different way of looking at it. Some do require bulb mode, but you must have good timing and expose setting as well. |

Thanks for the comments guys, this is what I did to capture the nice photos.
First, you need a good sturdy tripod mount your camera. Second, find a more distant vantage point where you can shoot the fireworks from the same level, rather then point your camera upwards. Third, use the right lens, for me I use a wide angle lens. If you want a tight composition use a telephoto zoom lens. Fourth, get a right exposure, I set my camera at full manual exposure I use ISO 100 and the aperture f/16. Fifth, try with different shutter speed, I set my shutter speeds at bulb and count 5 to 10 seconds. sixth, use RAW to capture, also when your camera captured inaccurate white balance, you can fix it and exposure can be fix as well. fireworks are funn to take.. not exactly easy though.. the first time i took, it was almost pure luck. aim properly, unlike ac, id prefer to use a tripod for this. some ppl use bulb too. a remote would be handy. good eyesight and hearing is important.. hear the fireworks launching and try to find it.. quite possible.. from there on if u use bulb, press until you`re satisfied with the formation. id usually set at the biggest f stop cos fireworks are really bright.
