Realtime coop joining in campaign mode
Spoiled by GOW, now this is the ONLY way to play Co-Op. Open up the guide, create new message, "Hey I need some help here", kick ass and take names together with friend. BEAUTIFUL!!!

Active Reloading
This changes the whole strategy of the reload game, previously in any FPS game you know depending on the weapon how long it'll take to reload once the guy pressed the reload button. with active reload now you have to guess wheter he's gonna fail, reload quicker, or PERFECT reload! Luckily the audio cues help. "You gotta be kidding me!" *Boomshot*

Enviromental effects
If you've played COD3 and Lost Planet already you'd know what I'm talking about, in COD3 bullet fire kicks up dust and smoke giving that realistic enviromental feel. Worse in Lost Planet, play on Hard mode and your screen will be filled with smoke and debris of everything blowing up all over you! Worse thing that can happen to you is that you shoot someone with dual rockets, they hit and create a giant smoke cloud on the target, you grin, your grin fades as the still standing target's laser cannons charge up and you can see their glow through the smoke.

Microsoft Announces Two Additional Paths of Entry to Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta

Gamers are invited to join the fight when the beta goes live this spring
with Xbox Live and "Crackdown" providing the final two paths.

Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios are ringing in the year with a proverbial bang, as they announced today two new ways for gamers to receive an invitation to participate in the "Halo(R) 3" multiplayer beta program coming this spring through Xbox Live(R) Marketplace.

Specifically, gamers will be able to receive an invitation by doing one of the following:

ˇ Qualifying over Xbox Live and then being one of the first 13,333 "Halo 2" gamers to register for the "Rule of Three" program at http://www.halo3.com in early February

ˇ Purchasing the upcoming game "Crackdown(tm)," which hits store shelves in the U.S. on Feb. 20

The "Halo 3" multiplayer beta, which is a pre-release version of the multiplayer experience of "Halo 3," is scheduled for availability in spring 2007 exclusively on Xbox 360(tm). The beta also represents an opportunity for gamers to participate in the testing and refinement of the multiplayer gameplay of "Halo 3," the most anticipated game of 2007. Through the resulting feedback, Bungie Studios will be able to further hone the end result of "Halo 3."

Beginning Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at 12:01 a.m. EST, all gamers need to do is participate in at least three hours of "Halo 2" multiplayer sessions, via Xbox Live, before Feb. 3, 2007, at 11:59 p.m. EST and then be among the first 13,333 to register at http://www.halo3.com. The "Rule of Three" program is currently planned for gamers in the 50 United States (includes District of Columbia) age 17 years and older who have access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive, a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription and the "Halo 2" game. Gamers around the world are encouraged to visit http://www.halo3.com in the coming weeks for more information on the "Rule of Three" program in their region.

As well, when "Crackdown" hits store shelves, gamers eager to take home a copy of the highly anticipated exclusive action title for Xbox 360 will find marked boxes of "Crackdown" that include an invite to participate in the coveted "Halo 3" multiplayer beta program when it becomes available. When the "Halo 3" multiplayer beta surfaces in spring 2007, owners of "Crackdown" with access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive and a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription simply need to load their copy of "Crackdown" into Xbox 360 and use the disc as a key to download the beta from Xbox Live Marketplace and join the battle in "Halo 3" multiplayer. "Crackdown" will be available in the U.S. on Feb. 20, Asian territories on Feb. 22 and European markets on Feb. 23.

Confirmed real I think

got a lot of questions about the Beta this week - especially regarding the Crackdown part. Basically, if you buy a specially marked copy of Crackdown for Xbox 360, in the US (details for other regions will be decided by those territories) then you will receive some kind of code allowing you to play in the Halo 3 Beta. There were other modes of entry (again, depending on your region) and perhaps the most confusing one was the "Play three hours of Halo 2" one.

A little update about the Halo 3 Public Beta. Taken from this week's Bungie Update:

So I guess there's no point buying a copy of Crackdown. Even if you buy the US one, no guarantee that it'll be a marked copy. As for the "Play 3 hours of Halo 2" online one, that also applies to US...

Some how i dont think its a US exclusive. Bungie And MS KNOW that there are Halo fanatics all over the world and it would be a great opportunity to make extra dough to release it worldwide. Seeing as halo 1/2 are both mega-mega popular and legendary in their own rights.

Um. I just got asked to check out a new feature for the Halo series. And I nearly pooped my pants. Like all miraculous features, I asked what the percentage chance of it making it into the final game are. You'd be surprised how accurate those estimates are. This one, I got a plain old "100%, no worries." Tyson downgraded that to 99%. Let's just say that it will make the folks at HighImpactHalo fill their drawers. And the MLG boys will sweat blood with excitement. They will all still moan at me about how we nerfed the pistol from Halo One, but this new thing will at least cheer 'em up for a few months. Or years. It's that big.

Options like adjustable gravity (and many others) should go a long way to keeping Halo 3 a fresh experience. Are there any cool custom options you'd like to see?

Multiplayer Control Scheme as of 3:43pm Today (subject to change).


Left and right sticks: Movement and look. Just like H2.

Click left and right sticks: Crouch and zoom - just like H2, although there is a "toggle crouch" option, so that you can stay crouched until you click the stick again.

A: Jump

B: Melee attack. Note: B may also be used to activate a subtle, but nifty context-sensitive feature.

Y: Switch to next weapon.

X: Activate mysterious new feature which on the cool scale falls somewhere between "crouch" and "activate Fantanas on speed dial."

LT: Toss grenade.

RT: Shoot weapon.

LB: Cycle grenade type (you have at least three types of grenade now, so they must be cycled rather than switched).

RB: Pick up weapon/activate stuff/reload/use turrets and so on.

Note: If you hold LB while standing over a dual wieldable weapon, you'll pick it up in your left hand - a huge improvement over the "Y" button in Halo 2. This doesn't affect grenade cycling, because you can still tap LB to cycle grenades, but you can't toss 'em while dual wielding anyway. So it's moot. After about ten minutes of play, it feels incredibly natural, with the lone downside that you have trouble adjusting when you go back to Halo 2. But more vitally, LB reloads the weapon in your left hand, individually when you're dual-wielding.

BACK: Calls up the Multiplayer "player menu" - where you can mute jerks, see gamer data and so on. The back button is useful, but tough to press in really hectic action, since it's so close to the Guide button.

START: Pause menu (which is translucent so you can adjust controls without losing track of what's on screen) and one or two other significant goodies we haven't revealed yet. From here you can also end or quit a game, naturally.

D-PAD: Used for sweet circular fighting game moves. No wait, my bad - it is currently used to activate team chat, but that's very provisional. This is being given a lot of care and attention and is tied to other matters, such as your default settings and how team chat and proximity voice work. You'd be amazed how much testing and thought goes into this stuff.

According to info release on Bungie.net, the MA5C 7.62mm rifle is an air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine fed weapon designed for automatic fire. The weapon has an attached electronics suite that provides information on rounds remaining in magazine, compass heading, as well as several other 'housekeeping' functions.
