Hi

I currently have a Samsung NX3000 mirrorless camera and I absolutely love it for casual travelling and event photography purposes.
2 months ago, I damaged my gopro when I was in beach (water damage due to water getting into the case cry.gif )

So I have 2 options now to replace the gopro:
1. buy another action camera, or \
2. just upgrade my NX3000 by buying a Wide angle lens + waterproof housing

Requirements: waterproof (5 meters is good enough), wide angle photos, preferably with a screen, vibrant and sharp images (>= 10MP)
Use cases: water activity photography (snorkeling, kayaking, etc), group selfie at places of attraction
Budget: RM 1500

For now, here's what I think about each option:

Buying new action camera
Pros: small and light, can use monopods to capture photos from angles/places that are not possible by hand
Cons: need to buy various accessories and learn the controls, some cameras don't have a screen

Upgrading Mirrorless camera
Pros: less stuff to carry around, long battery life (I have 2 batteries for mirrorless), slightly cheaper (if compared to gopros)
Cons: need to be careful when changing lens, selfie range limited by hand length, might look silly/clumsy using it for water activities (imagine snorkeling innocent.gif )

Right now I'm leaning towards Upgrading. Any pros here can offer some word of advice? confused.gif Thanks!

Hehehe let me be 4th person to say... Buy a new action camera.

Reason is, I'm.not even sure there is a water casing for nx3000... Even there is... Its bulky and restrict accessibility... And if used wrongly, your camera will shut down time to time from overheat (no way of cooling, as the case is seal tight). Etc etc. Many weakness compare to a new go pro for "water" sport.

just not so familiar with underwater compacts

plus, the form factor kinda overlaps with mirrorless

but underwater compact can easily adjust controls anytime.
and u get better depth of field with a lcd etc.

u already know action camera hard to frame with no lcd, and accessing controls another thing.

and form factor is different...as u dont have to contend with underwater housing with a compact.

there really isnt much to recommend.
between all the manufacturers also only a handful of new models.
so u can easily choose based on price / brand preference etc.

I believe for compact, you can consider Olympus TG-4, but the price a bit on the steep side, didn't see any good offer.

buy gopro. i dont think the samsung wide lens is wide enough for you group selfie, if you are holding it using selfie stick.
