Which apps are you facing the problem? Sometime is the Google play services caused the problem, you might need to remove your Google account and re-add it again. Try that, it may help.

I guess you are coming from iOS no such options. By default Android look for img in all folder and display in gallery.

Whereby what iOS did was saved in WhatsApp folder and did not save in iOS Albums.

May be you can use third party apps to hide whatsapp folder
