Have anyone wondered how does Lazada or other retailers make money from these discounts and vouchers?

Just wondering.. Hehe..

those coupon discount are borne by lazada, dealer no loss

juz lazada still making operating loss last year

heard their KPI is sales turnover amount, not profit

nowadays without strong financial background don't come out a ecommerce platform

11st>celcom+korea SK, 2 telco co. funding
g5>hongleong bank back up

rakuten from japan already cease operation recently, one of hard reality of running ecommerce platform

Lazada become so Kudakut even after bought by Alibaba...

sigh

this is the trend

the previous lazada main shareholder juz wanna burn money to gain market share (KPI is sales turnover figure), not looking into operating profits, with the hope to sell this company to big company to gain profit in one off (after all, their ultimate goal is business selling profit, not operating profit)

alibaba is a public listed company, must responsible for their share value performance every single time

they bought lazada as a platform to step into south east asia e-market more comfortably, ie with the aim of making profits, not burning money

year ago alibaba bought shares in singapore post as their SEA logistic backbone, now it make clear why they did that as now they bought lazada as front ecommerce platform (source said singapore temasek as middle man). In one word, singapore has been strategically identified by alibaba as their SEA hub and base.

(despite we malaysia here always said best relationship bla bla bla with china among SEA countries from old days till now, top gov personnel bilateral visits and all that... but when comes to biz operation reality, they still prefer singapore than malaysia as regional base)

Its not that Alibaba or is stingy,
Rocket Internet owner of Lazada business strategy from day 1 was to aggressively expand quick and sell if off later.
Undercut competitors with lots of discounts, not caring about profit but market expansion, in fact they were doing a negative profit operation for years, lossing millions per year.
Expand quick gain market share and huge customer base
Then Bam sold it off for US 1 Billions Dollars baby

yup, many still not realise about this

thinking lzd is the best generous e-commerce entity and doing financially well, in fact making loss all the time with these sort of marketing practise

lzd not back by gold mine/oil tycoon with unlimited cash, sure got intention behind, ie sell off company to make one big lump sum money, not bother the fight among competitors with little operation margin

i'm seeing several app company is doing the same way, one day they would also sell off company, by now their strategy is juz disrupt the market to gain market attention

because that things never sold outside of China, that is why only available in Chinese.

it would one day, for now the V1 first batch, they are testing inland for firmware problems or users negative feedback etc

then finalize it with a better package product then only do overseas sale, for their brand reputation

ie. using own inland market feedback as white rat test first, many of cn company doing this way, the export model always better in quality and experience.
