QUOTE(sagethesausage @ Apr 27 2016, 01:54 PM) Nope, that's the price from local supplier. So their cost price from factory in China confirm even cheaper. Maybe u r just working at mobile phone shop, not the owner of the business. It's such a scam that most mobile shop dealers sell screen protecter for RM 15-20, And double the price for tempered glass. That's like 1000% markup. "Investment" There are so many models of smartphones out there, we need to buy all the tempered glasses once the new models come out, but the accessories of not so popular model can't be sold, and that's we need to cover ourselves. I got many stocks, but only 20% max can be sold. Sometimes we are just trying our luck, to see whether the stocks we purchased can be sold or not. Let's say a phone shop in shopping mall, we can't have accessories for Samsung flagships and iPhones only, cause all the sellers there will have too, and they might not buy from us. "Operating cost" A shoplot rental above RM2000, electricity RM500, which means we need to earn at least RM100/day just to cover the operating cost. "Staff" Salary around RM1200. "Service" For the customer who wants to buy tempered glass, usually take half an hour to service. When doing the thing, other customers will come and we are not able to service them, just asking what we can help, some of them who couldn't wait will just go to other shop. We gained profit but we lost our potential customers too. "Risk" Some inexperienced staffs will messed up, and we need to replace another one. Sometimes the stocks we ordered from supplier are broken, but we have to bear it too. I used to have same thinking as your, so I ventured into this business. But after I started, it's not as profitable or easy as we thought. I was helping my uncle to setup GST POS in his hardware shop, the profit margin is much higher than this. Btw I am selling normal screen protector at RM15, and RM20 for tempered glass (cheaper than pasar malam). Some customers who are nice or elders, I will give them RM15 only. And I am still struggling and luckily my gf will help me, I don't think I can afford to hire worker, at least for now. Anyway, I was shocked too when my customers told me other phone shops charged them RM80 for a tempered glass. Even at RM40, I think it's too over dy. |
