personally i think it's a bad decision, the shops there too high for the crowd's income status there.

i said this because everyday i pass by nu sentral, and this is what i observe.

and too many floors is definitely a crowd killer

i believe they are targeting the foreigners who pass by there, since kl sentral is the transit for klia.

but for me,

nothing special there

they have interesting event once in a while though, at the mid section

I think the numbers of patrons are still ok, but for some reason whole place doesn't feel like i'm walking in a mall, more like i'm walking in a huge-arse ktm stations.

the flaw if you ask me is in the design of the location

the market is there, but you need to entice folks from the bank, audit firm and petrol companies to go there. problem is, i think the guy who did that place think that walking on the side of a busy road is a great and wonderful idea.

during weekdays, only working class ppl around that area visit the mall for foods and cafe, very few for shopping.

comes weekend, ppl day day also work there already, weekend still wanna go there jalan jalan mehh? rather choose other malls since the variety of the shops also same same for all mall...

It stands a better chance than a lot of the other malls i think because of its location and accessibility. A lot of the other malls are empty at this time too.

Luckily got full bar 3G inside, googled up NuSentral customer service number, called them requesting help, few minutes later their security guard came to rescue me.

management problem.

they put in shops and restaurants that totally not match with kl sentral crowd spending power.

rich people already all go to pavillion, they don't want to stuffed in kl sentral with no ambient environment to shop.

the developer that closed to the minister who plan it only see kl sentral got a lot of people, but they never check what is their spending power and what shops they like. they have no experience in running shopping mall at all.

they think they build a pavillion in the most crowded place, automatically will become pavillion 2.0

you can guess this is definitely is related to malaysia gov as this is usually their style of doing management

*

i said this because everyday i pass by nu sentral, and this is what i observe.

and too many floors is definitely a crowd killer

But the list you mentioned, the rich people over there, will not choose to shop in Nu Sentral.

People want to shop at places where the environment and ambient suitable for their spending power.

Now they turn KL Sentral into a low level terminal bus station, which rich people wanna shop there? Terminal bus station should have shops that match their standard, not something like Victoria's Secret.

This is the most common mistaken of our government, they sincerely think every Malaysians in KL Sentral are high income group. They use the same concept to design Cyberjaya and KL Sentral, but obviously they do not understand Malaysians at at all, at least not compare to private companies.

EDIT: if I'm rich and a person who have taste, when I reach KL Sentral, why don't I just go 1 more station to Mid Valley where it is obviously better? And the crowd in Mid Valley are all middle upper class.

If people using this concept to open shopping mall, they die 9000 years ago.

This is not the way to attract crowd, shopping mall is actually much more complex than that, people want to mix with good quality crowd. Not going there during lunch hour, only small shopping mall is doing that.

Me and you both know a shopping mall that can only attract lunch hour customers is actually very dangerous (unless rental super cheap). So now you wouldn't feel surprise why so many F&B in Nu Sentral have to close down.

Nu Sentral and KL sentral are not meant to be a food court, that's why Sooka cannot sustain (Sooka very crowded during lunch hour, but empty at other hours).

Overall Nu Sentral is too expensive for its current crowd, but not attractive at all for the crowd it want to attract.

The parking rental super expensive.
They tot they sit next to KLCC and par with them.
In reality they have nothing to offer. Their never think how to pull crowd in B segment- Mid income to student level. Even though they have H&M but then.

The in house marketing really bad. They dont know how to do their job. Such a waste.

I never choose to go to Nu Sentral- ever!.

The problem I have with the parking area is the accessibility to the mall itself. Certain floors goes straight to it, others have ramps. But some floors though end up you taking a lift (mostly on the right side of the parking area), and if you don't pay attention to where you parked, it's very easy to get lost. Nu Sentral have many mezzanine floors, and the don't indicate well.

One of the rules to make a successful shopping complex is to put the food outlets or tenants at ground or 1st floor. Putting them like 5-6 floors up is suicide. When people have not much time for lunch or dinner, you don't expect them to go multiple stories up to eat. They want fast and convenient.

i think the reason why they put most of the F&B at top floor is that they dont want top floor to be dead silent with no ppl at all like some other malls.. at least they can still collect rental from tenants on top floors.. that's my opinion on why they put F&B on top floor.. but office ppl need climb up everytime if they wanna makan yawn.gif

I have been to the top floors during weekdays and weekends. On weekends many of the F&B are full, but on weekdays only McD and KFC. Others just have 2-3 ppl inside. The one thing which is saving them is because of the GSC cinema at the same floor, and it would be convenient for people to eat at the same floor before seeing movie on weekends.

Like the example I listed, there is tons of MNC companies and also high end residency there
KL sentral have lot of component not just the station. There is a lot of hotels and high end service apartments there and high income expat working there

They don't care about normal public transport people like us, their capture market is the MNC workers and high end residency there

You think all the retailers there don't make business case study before renting one of lots in Nu sentral?

I have been to the top floors during weekdays and weekends. On weekends many of the F&B are full, but on weekdays only McD and KFC. Others just have 2-3 ppl inside. The one thing which is saving them is because of the GSC cinema at the same floor, and it would be convenient for people to eat at the same floor before seeing movie on weekends.
*
maybe we are in a different dimension, but my experience is most of the top floor F&B restaurants are full during weekdays lunch hour... Friday is the worst, u need to queue for 30 min for a table...

i working in that area.

That's odd. Is it possible that time I went on weekdays it was a holiday week (CNY last month), therefore lesser people than the usual?

Ya, Brands outlet stuff really low price.

Nu Sentral is good for people to lepak at with less crowd, but cant compare to those big mall like Midvalley and Pavillion with more variety

There will be another fashion store opening soon, something similar like Uniqlo, just beside H&M

Yes, especially those Japanese Restaurant, usually around 12:30pm you need to queue up already.

Weekend it is just crowded, especially around 1 ~ 3 pm, where people walk out from cinema

F&B is packed on weekdays but only average biz on weekends.. surprisingly Franco is not packed at all when it opened 2 days ago..

Other than F&B outlets.. many of them suffers badly as i said earlier.. even H&M only have some people when they have deals for 50%, else it would be empty..

Yay
- Less crowded during weekend
- Cheaper parking after 6pm during weekday and PH (RM4 per entry)
- Nice GSC, i think because of it's still new
- You can find most of the things you need, despite the variety of choice
- Sam Grocery! My lunch is from there!
- Cheapest Currency exchange rate that nearby me

Nay
- Too many floors, not convenient if you wish to move from 1 floor to another floor
- Why most F&B at 3rd and 4th floor? pusing escalator till faint
- Standard choice of F&B choice, the only F&B i will recommend is Nando's
- No cheap grocery, Sam's is the only choice
- Wondering how come so many shop that offering healthy juice?

im working near Nu Sentral office worker, nu sentral lunch time 12pm to 2pm and dinner time is the most pack time. All the eateries, have to que around 30 minutes for a table, the food court is damn packed aswell with not enough seat.

The retail outlets mostly suffers as office workers mostly got no time to shop during lunch time.

shit ass mall, shit ass design....the only reason it's still in business is because of lunch for office workers and you need to pass through it to connect LRT or monorail.....

Won't bring anybody there for whatever reason......i would rather be caught in a bad jam in MV or 1U than to spend my private time in this mall.

One of my favorite malls in KL.

It's not too packed unlike sohai 1U or MV.

Parking is not cut throat like Pavillion or KLCC.

Got GSC, H&M, McD. Others don't really matter.

Luckily got full bar 3G inside, googled up NuSentral customer service number, called them requesting help, few minutes later their security guard came to rescue me.

Just park at the mall. It's actually quite cheap all things considered, especially if you work there. You pay for it so you don't have to go into office smelling like three days never shower due to squeezing in train or walk under hot sun

Even better, you don't have to choke your colleagues to death with cologne to mask your BO

bro, ride bicycle. Bring a spare clothes or leave it in the office to change. I normally use a bottle of handwash lotion for BO control. Cycling to work in KL is seriously underrated.

10-12 km per day. Did it for three years already. Oddly enough, because of the KL traffic jam + narrow roads, cycling in KL is waaaay safer than an American big city with cycling lanes that I'm in rihgt now.

Just do it bro thumbsup.gif You'll be amazed how much your colleagues would look up to you, even your boss backs you up for your mistakes during meetings - oh nasilemakman cycled, hardworker, you guys so lazy what's your excuse!?- biggrin.gif

if you can't stand your hot worker flirts you here and there when she has to consult you, I definitely advise you against cycling. So hard to do work like this when women wanna tease and manja-manja vmad.gif

Just ask me if you're serious in cycling to work. I have many tips.

yeah.. initially I thought it would be somewhat similar like DAISO [as I never heard of this brand, so just a wild guess] but turns out to be expensive stuff and yet still a lot of people inside that cramped shop..

Maybe because it's just opened few days ago and people were curious about it.. let's see how's the crowd in the next few weeks.. hope it wont end up like the shop just beside it icon_rolleyes.gif

yes, jeneris was bad for the price and location. There's a reason why every morning Teh Tarik and the couple others quite pack when that one is empty.

Cupcake is a fad, too sweet and nothing outstanding. I bought like 1 time for colleagues, it was a struggle to finish all of it.

i agree.. i passed by nu sentral almost everyday and noticed a lot of non-F&B outlets suffers badly with NO customer at all...even watch shops also empty all the time. If the situation continues, a lot of shops may closed down once the contracts ends.. doh.gif

not only Samsung, there are many other outlets like watch shops, sports shoe shops (nike, ultron, converse..), facial /massage shops, push carts which are dying as well.. cant see any customer walk in to their shops at all shakehead.gif

only brands outlets have the most customer in the category of non- F&B tenants from what I observe.

probably the tenants here are too "high end" as what mentioned by forumers.. most of the people that come to NU Sentral are just commuters and office people.

Who will come to NU Sentral just to buy Swiss Watch (for example) instead of going to pavilion/klcc/the gardens? Just my thought icon_rolleyes.gif

Who will come to NU Sentral just to buy Swiss Watch (for example) instead of going to pavilion/klcc/the gardens? Just my thought icon_rolleyes.gif

whats the problem actuallly?

why F&B having good business like no tomorrow but non-F&B slumped out of Nu Sentral?
even starbucks and chatime always full....
tapi the one I wanted it to shut down tak pernah shut down and I hate the most- Samsung
most of the time no customer at all..

NU Sentral is just a transit mall between KL central and monorail. i would say 90% of the people inside are just passing by the mall. You rarely see any family purposely drive car and go to NU Sentral to shops like mid valley or sunway pyramid. The people inside the mall is just office worker who go and have lunch or transit passenger who just have to pass by there.

If you are office worker... u mostly go there for lunch nia... takkan u go lunch and buy a lot of stuff (shopping) back to office?
If you are tourist or transit passenger... you don't even have mood to shops at there because you are busy heading to next destination. The only reason u stop there is because you want to eat or tired and want to rest.

So food shops is always full of people while other... die

Do they have uniqlo in nusentral?

I personally despise the t-shirts and shirts in brands. Dontean to be rude but their shirt designs look like what DVD pirates wear.

Their printed tees are ok, but the sayings get old fast.

Much prefer FOS.

I agree on the lack of variety. Pasta zanmai, Sushi zanmai, Sushi Tei, Sakae Sushi. Price is problem too. People who take LRT are not rich people.

The clothing stores there are a joke. Except Uniqlo & H&M.

Also, the maradona gold shop is cringe-ful as fuck. NuSentral need to make money from rents, I guess.

you got point.. and i agree on the lack of variety of brands in nu sentral.. mostly are expensive brands like those watch gallery, gold diamond shop, and not famous brands... even the f&b brands doesn't really attract me as well.

Also, i have highlighted in earlier post that the people that come to nu sentral are mostly comprises of office people and commuters.. you cant really expect them to do serious shopping at here. Office people have only 1 hour break to spend time at this mall and the time taken are mostly to makan and to queue up, later they need to back to office.

As for commuters, i could see most of them just have a quick bite of burger or at food court/fast food outlets and then they proceed to their destination (e.g. train stations).. that's why many of the non-F&B shops suffers at here icon_rolleyes.gif

I think is the problem on the mall management when selecting tenant...

1. If you have some famous \ unique brand, then it may your selling point of your mall, but i dont see any, only repeated brands and i-not-even-look-at-it brand that surrounded, for example, i wonder why the Korean Express train is there and take up a f*cking huge space! rental? or crowd? you choose

2. no event, the central court always empty, the most is property fair... and how many ppl actually will go for it? i may have interest if you have car show... at least something that we still affort o can dream of.... sweat.gif

3. promo? no CC promo (at least), no sales event (Parkson? ohwai....), what is the point of going there?

4. the only reason i go is cinema during weekend, coz cheap parking compare to other mall + cozy GSC, yet.

Can they jz have more variety please? shd tag their management into here whistling.gif

This brand thing is kind of a catch-22. People want nice brands, but nice brands are expensive. Just like all those shops in Pavi. A medium or med-high level brands would probably suit NuSentral more. That's why Uniqlo is a very good choice. They should bring in more of them.. idk maybe Padini?

I can say one thing about the Korean Express. They are there to bid for Malaysia's HSR. To introduce and appeal themselves to Malaysian people, thus influencing govt decision.

The events there, yeah.. Property, or lame ones, like books event(cheap, non-popular books), and pillows event (muthafucking pillow event??). Others like decoration for festivals, which just for eyes to see, thus not really attracting anyone.

Nice brands doesn't mean expensive brand, they not suit to this kind of place, this area are surrounded by brickfields, college students, working mid low class, so, just bring in some retailer that fit to this group of people, what brand to bring in, that's their job

the korean express train - most of us knew that China is going to win the bid... just the time matter... whistling.gif

*
i agree.. their events are mostly property fair (most of time) and pillow... damn boring sweat.gif

padini would be good if they opens at this mall.. but i dont think there is any big space for them to open unless they kick out some tenants or wait till some tenants bankrupt brows.gif

Can they jz have more variety please? shd tag their management into here whistling.gif

agree.. Amoi is one of the pulling factors for people to come inside the shop but i still saw some shops empty as well even though got amois to promote the stuff.

Good example would be the perfume shop (Paris Gallery, if not mistaken for the name) beside Pandora at NU Sentral.. always see 2 amois standing at outside to promote stuff but no one bothers them or go inside their shop hmm.gif not sure how long the shop can survive as it's always empty

The location is really strategic, right beside lrt AND monorail station. But their target are probably office workers. Many food outlets, but really just so-so.

To me that's just a five-petals flower sweat.gif.

The pentagram that I was referring to is the one on the floor, the lit up. Straight out pentagram. Kinda looks "out", not suitable for Islamic art. Should be octagram, eight-pointed star instead.

[Just for Sharing]: Notice of closure from Jeneris by Ahren at NU Sentral

Dear customer & supporter. We really thankful having you guys as our loyal customer and friend. 2 year we have been together and we looking forward more to come. However due to shopping mall incompetence in maintenance , we decided to make our move. We suffer great losses of loyal customer as most of you know how 'hot/warm' in our existing location. Unfortunately due to badly manage and lack of supervision of the mall , we often have uninvited guest like cats, the plaster ceiling collapse and flooded the bridge, and plenty issue which seriously interrupt our operation . You guys are our priority and really hoping to serve you guys better. Stay tune on this Facebook site. We will change company, trade name and even revamp current menu to serve you guys better.

putra depends only on pwtc events.. if there is no events, the mall is like a ghost mall..

Condos, office tower, hotel,LRT & KTM station doesn't help in bringing crowd to this mall

many of tenants especially non-F&B suffering losses from its opening till now doh.gif

putra cant compare with this 3 malls la.. even with excellent accessibility of public transport, putra wont do well simply because the tenants are too "high end" for the surrounding catchment of market. Who will come to putra to shop for Aeropostale, for example?

same case like NU Sentral, the tenant mix is wrong to target the office workers and commuters, who will come to NU Sentral to shop for Swiss Watch?

Also, putra doesn't have:
1) fitness outlet,
2) entertainment outlet (e.g bowling, karaoke, etc..)
3) fast food outlets, like KFC, McD
4) toy store,
5) department store (like aeon/parkson),

MV, 1U and pyramid have all those outlets to make it "all-in-one" mall.. and they have wide range and variety of brands to cater to different groups of customers unlike putra and Nu

From the outside looks dead because those pubs open at night.

Shops facing main road are all occupied.

Tesco area shops are 95% full. Mr.DIY is there.

Behind shop lots are the ones that's empty, because it's quite far from Tesco and not airconed.

Main reason is Midvalley, 1U & Sunway has been around way earlier than many malls, and they are located in big township area near main roads, also they are very big so people prefer to go there.

For normal shopping people will go Jusco/AEON/BIG, Malays, Indians will go Giant & Mydin, Foreign workers mainly shop inside KL where they work & stay.

Small scale malls, only Subang Empire doing well i think.

No sure about that mall at Jalan Ampang, or the small mall at Sri Hartamas, even Bangsar Village & Bangsar shopping mall people go there eat only, even eat only few shops, most shops there are very niche market.

Nu Sentral is good for shops that sell small things that people frequent buy, like Games, Toys, Gadgets, Sports shops, things you want to pick up on your way home. Nobody gonna buy groceries & take LRT/Bus back home. If shoe shops like Crossover open there surely many people will buy from Nu Sentral.

i'm sure there's 1 or 2 shops at the back that still exist. there's 1 luxury item shop on 2nd or 3rd floor, i don't think they close shop because i believe their main purpose is not make money.

Tesco area is almost full, shops facing main road is also full.

i agree, most people still prefer to go to MV, 1U & Pyramid even though many other new malls opened recently..

on a side note, NU Sentral groceries store doing quite OK on weekdays, not sure about weekends hmm.gif

but apparently, sports shoe outlets are not doing well at NU Sentral, such as Nike, Ultron, Puma (always empty), only can see some people at Adidas and RSH..

I also noticed some fashion outlets, beauty outlets, handphone shops as well as jewellery shops on LG floor are dying as well shakehead.gif

i've been to Nike, not much option, mainly just running shoes, they need to add other hippie shoes.

not sure about Adidas.

in short you want something working people buy constantly and do quick pickups at Nu anytime they want during biz hour.

how's Jaben's biz?

I dont think the shops can offer much lower price, as the rental oso expensive, they need to cover it before paying salary to staffs...

no attractive point as like other mall, so the mall management is really suck, me nowadays only go if needed, really no wish to jalan jalan at there during weekday, and jz go for movie at weekend coz no crowd and cheap parking

already banned that place and i'm sure many will do so sooner or later.

last thursday went to buy cat food for my lovely cats.
long queue at the counter.
was queuing to pay suddenly the cashier lady yelled counter closed, tutup tutup when it reached my turn.
me and the rest of the people just moved to the other lanes..
then the counter become empty.

suddenly few malays went to queue up at the counter which is supposingly close.
and she started to serve them, removing the 'close' sign.

then the gwai lo behind me said isn't this unfair?

then i told her some old stories about this place.
she said she wont come back here anymore.

tenants are dying at there and there are a number of tenants delay in paying the rental and some didn't even pay rental for months..

Nu Sentral still got working peoples and students crowds on weekdays, so it will not that bad, unless you are in very expensive or not attractive brands

not cheap also.

really ah under mydin?  shakehead.gif
*
yes.. under Mydin

"Homegrown wholesale and retail giant Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd hopes to open every year, three to four of its premium supermarket, SAM’s Groceria, to capture the high-end segment.

Its executive director Datuk Ameer Ali said there were vast opportunities for the premium supermarket with a majority of the country’s population by 2020 expected to be those from the high income group.

“As long as the location is right, planning three to four outlets a year will not be difficult to do, and is financially not an issue for Mydin,” he told reporters at the Gurney Paragon’s soft launch here today.

Wholly-owned by Mydin, the first SAM’s Groceria was opened in Penang with an investment of about RM15 million to provide premium products at affordable prices to Penangites as well as the growing expatriate community."

Also, i found that the staff of sam groceria has sour face like we owe his/her money.. no smile/no greeting at all when we pay money for our items shakehead.gif

already banned that place and i'm sure many will do so sooner or later.

last thursday went to buy cat food for my lovely cats.
long queue at the counter.
was queuing to pay suddenly the cashier lady yelled counter closed, tutup tutup when it reached my turn.
me and the rest of the people just moved to the other lanes..
then the counter become empty.

suddenly few malays went to queue up at the counter which is supposingly close.
and she started to serve them, removing the 'close' sign.

then the gwai lo behind me said isn't this unfair?

then i told her some old stories about this place.
she said she wont come back here anymore.
*
indeed not fair.. wonder why..maybe because she opened it just for her friends? doh.gif

anyway, sam's groceria is a nice place for lunch or fast take away...

Got.

Walk opposite KL Sentral to Iketeru.

The Unagi with Sashimi set very nice. I usually ask them change the rice with udon, for a small fee.

Otherwise just eat the Udon set.

most people just pass by this mall for the sake of going to monorail station/to KL Sentral.. hardly any people shopping at here from what I observe..

there are quite a number of shops has closed down for this year alone.. and this mall is only 2 yrs old

Nu sentral is packed on weekends and weekdays lunch hour. Not sure why people say nobody go. Need more f&b restaurants there since most people go there to eat, not shop.

Miniso sells things like gadgets, cosmetics, handbags, pillows, stationary that all of them are made in China. It is a rip off of MUJI actually, from the branding, product design, labeling are all copycat of MUJI.
I always wanna buy something there but never come out with anything as I think again, I dont really need any of them..haha biggrin.gif
