Wasted one whole day at 1U MBB card centre just to do those.

At least you get entertained. I went to The Gardens M2U card centre one Saturday, took number, waited, go there say I wanna apply for M2C Premier, the guy told me to apply online. His specific instructions were to go online, download the form and send online.

I have lots of kids.

Insurance, school fees, medical bills, family holidays, tax, property management fees, utilities, property assessments. Very easy to hit.

What is your opinion on paying taxes with credit card?

Actually what transactions count as 2x or 5x? I've searched in this thread and the old one and the answers not very consistent.

So with VI

Taobao in MYR is 5x?
Airbnb in MYR or foreign currency both 5x?
Amazon?

How to tell if the payment gateway is local or overseas.
Thanks
*
I called up Maybank Customer Service yesterday asking about this.
Basically, in order to qualify as a "foreign transaction" online:
1. Amount charged must be in foreign currency, AND
2. Company is a foreign registered company

Example,
If you buy something from China but charged in MYR, not qualified.
If you buy AirAsia tickets in foreign currency, not qualified because AirAsia is a Malaysian-registered company

That was the example given to me.

Hope this helps.

If in doubt, use AMEX lo.

paying income tax?

Yes.

QUOTE(digidigi @ Feb 15 2019, 07:53 PM)
if u asking me is no no, I won’t compare like paying 1.5 percent extra then get what equivalent 10 percent return value on airfare, coz in reality without this card I won’t spend real money on those airfare, so the point I getting should be free at the beginning, just me la.

And some people use the airfare publish by airline directly as a guide for equivalent return, but some airline just charge unreasonably high fare which you won’t pay for it, and it include the premium for point accumulation and status tier, so I will take some discount

I understand what you mean.

I pay my income tax using CC as the surcharge is only 0.8% and I can subsequently use balance transfer to spread my payments over 6/12 months.

Benefits for me are cashback / TP, and ability to 0% BT, while putting cash in FD and earning interest.

In general I always try to pay with CC and never cash, unless there is a significant surcharge.

Noted.

Pay via PayPal in foreign currency, but given only 2TP due to local gateway.
Can pay with Amex but charge additional 0.25%

Pay via PayPal in RM for local company.
Gateway in Sg, given 5TP.
Can't pay with Amex in RM.
Problem is how to know which gateway?
*
Tricky situation.

Does the contactless Amex Reserve? I've tried to "Paywave" multiple times, and each time it gets rejected. Anyone has any success?
*
AMEX Contactless works. So far, I only find some drivethru McD outlets cannot use the contactless feature, only can pin and pay. But if you walk into McD counter, can use. This is just based on my experience for 3-4 McD outlets. Other places works for me, eg AEON, Zanmai, FamilyMart, etc. I guess it is about whether the terminal is new or old terminal.

AMEX - it's per what you written and the fee is 2.5%
VISA- 1% levied by Maybank + 1.25% by VISA

Most of the time, VISA wins. Because of the mechanism, Amex fee end up could be slightly higher than 2.5%

Last but not least, also depends if there's any promotion or contest by Visa or Amex. Don't mind paying slightly more

If spending overseas is <RM10K, then can consider reload BigPay with MUVI on matchwin day. Then conversion has no additional surcharge when spend overseas.

Let's say for Agoda booking right, is there any difference between using Amex and Visa Infinite?

Payment gateway is oversea = so 5x TP

Currency - Agoda auto-convert (and rip you off 4-5% on exchange rate) to MYR. So, no additional fees charged by Amex or Visa right?
*
No additional charge - the MYR you see is the ringgit you pay.

However, for Visa, in order to qualify for "oversea spending", you must fulfill 2 criterias:
1. must be in foreign currency
2. gateway must be oversea

So in this case, since Agoda charge you in RM, you only earn 2xTP with VI.

I suggest you use AMEX instead.

As long as overseas gateway, you will get 5x
*
I previously called MBB CS and asked about it. She mentioned must fulfill both criteria as stated.

QUOTE(charlesj @ Mar 6 2019, 02:25 PM)
For local hotel or anything to pay in RM, just use Amex, no difference.
For overseas hotel, I always prefer paying directly to the hotel in local currency, using VI.
*
Yes, agree with you.
1. If pay at hotel in MYR currency, the conversion rate is not favourable
2. If pay at their local currency, using AMEX - convert to USD then to MYR, then surcharge 2.5%
3. If pay at their local currency, using AMEX - surcharge 2.25%

VI will be cheapest.

Personal experience:
Shopee (with old gateway in SG), getting 5x TP when paying in RM.
Paypal, pay in RM, when received statement, noticed that Gateway in SG, getting 5x TP too biggrin.gif
Paypal, paying in foreign currency, received statement, Gateway in MY, getting 2x TP :'(
Agoda:
For local hotel, the price shown in RM, you can compare between booking.com and other hotel booking site or even call to that hotel to check the rate.
Both agoda and booking.com accepting Amex, just use it.
Most of the hotel >4 stars accept Amex too.

For overseas hotel, as what you mentioned above.

I just changed my old Amex Reserve into the new Reserve + contactless. Tried paying twice by "waiving" but unsuccessful. Both big retailers though, one is Guardian and another is Ikea.

Looks like plenty of works still undergoing.

They were having problems with it from Boost side. I emailed them twice. Now can add already. Just update your app and then add your reserve card.

Hey guys, just got approved for my M2Premier card.
Not sure if I got the normal VI or MUVI. How to check ah? My M2U portal just says "Premier Visa Infinite", so I'm worried I didn't get the MUVI.
*
There is suppose to be an MU logo at upper right corner on your front card. If don't have have, you go the VI version. Can always call and tell them to change. Don't activate yet.

Didn't know there are people still using cheques

Didn't know also can use cheque for CC payment
*
Cheques are useful for:
1. Moving large amount of money (ie RM200K) - place FD, pay downpayment, etc
2. Some Chinese school still oldschool - accepts cheque payment only
