Anyone encounter fraud cases on M2C Premier cards?
Is there a frequent breech in maybank security?

I personally encounter twice on my supplementary cards.
1st happen on VI, a sudden 4 transaction on Google*Glu Mobile at midnight.
Luckily i received sms regarding the transaction and called up CS to verify.
But they told me tat Google is a valid company so is not consider a fraud case. She ask me whether gt any family sign up google account and google auto update apps then charges on card.
But i told CS that we r using iOS not android and we aso din store CC details in the PC or phone.
Anyhow, i insist blocking that card then reissue a new card and maybank charge me for rm50 card replacement.
Later i send in a dispute form to maybank and luckily they reimbursed me all the unauthorized charges and i request for waive of card replacement fee which is still pending.

Now again..same issue happen again. this time on AMEX card by the same supplementary holder. Same transaction by google as well..called CS again told google is not a fraud comp cannot block the transaction. Again they ask me to check whether is google app auto update.

I was wondering could it be a breech in the whole batch of CC..coz it happen on the both card that was issued the same time..

anyone have experience in this "so called google company" transaction?
Hopefully tis time can get reimbursed in full again.

If it is denominated in SGD and processed outside Malaysia, it should be 5x....however, I have purchased sq tickets, it's denominated in myr and processed in msia, and only 2x points given...

Touch wood have not encountered any fraud case with these cards, despite using them for online, overseas, etc. I've encountered on my Citibank though when overseas, total fraud amount about RM 30k, fully waived by Citibank. I don't think they should charge you the card replacement fee, if they agree to waive and believe it's fraud case. Card must be suspended and replaced for all fraud case, so it doesn't make sense for them to waive but then charge you RM 50

My Premiere card annual fee will hit me in a few days, based on last year's statement it'll be in late August and I'm only at the RM75k range this year since most of my normal spend is on other cards.

Tempted to cancel because I'm annoyed at Maybank's attitude but the earning potential is far too lucrative...

That's an interesting idea, but 5k is basically almost 6 months of groceries or almost a year's worth of petrol biggrin.gif

I will call in or drop by the Maybank center at KLCC tomorrow. I haven't received my PIN enabled card anyway...

May I know why you charge most of your spending to other cards but yet you say Premiere's earning potential is good?

I have access to US based credit cards where sign up bonuses are king. This year alone I have received in excess of 600k points across various credit card sign up bonuses, after $15-20k of spending which is where most of my charging goes to. Once the sign up bonuses are done though I still go back to Maybank Premiere cards especially Amex Reserve since that gives me many more points per USD/RM spent.

In order to access to US based credit card is it a very tedious process..i came across about US CC sign up bonus but still finding best way to get access to it.
Anyway need to get security number and track record of payments.
Mayb sifu can show some lights to us how you get access to US based CC?
working in malaysia is it still possible?or need to frequently fly to US?

I have access because I lived/work in the US for many years so not an issue for me.
These are general steps, and all theoretical based on potentially outdated/flawed info. I'm sure I've posted this before, but am reposting again.

0. You need a forwarding address. Apply for one, pay the $x monthly and use this as your mailing address. Google for options.
1. You need a VPN, some sites use geo-location or IP-location and won't work if you're outside the US.
2. You need a social security number (SSN). Open an investment account, make sure you make a taxable profit, then apply for a SSN to pay taxes in the US.
3. You need credit history, typically one year or more. Once you have that SSN, apply for a basic credit card using the address in #0 as your mailing address. Forward the card to Malaysia.
4. Monitor your credit history (FICO scores, creditsesame, creditkarma) and start applying once you've established a long enough record

In short you're going to have to invest money, around US$20-30 per month for #0 and #1, and time, around 6-18 months for #2 and #3 before you can start with the big leagues eg. Chase Sapphire Reserve for 100k Ultimate Rewards points or Amex Platinum for 100k Membership Rewards.

The big advantages are of course the large sign up bonuses, plus the value of each point is higher in the US. Each US Membership Reward is a one to one transfer to the likes of Asia Miles or Krisflyer for example, not the crummy 6000 points to 1000 miles we get in Malaysia. Also pretty much all the steps above can be done online and you don't have to fly there regularly.

The disadvantages are primarily money/time already mentioned, plus the foreign exchange issues. You need to make a certain amount of expenditure, and you basically need to transfer money from Malaysia to the US regularly to pay for these cards.

The biggest disadvantage is that the banks are already starting to reduce their bonuses. You used to be able to churn cards, ie. apply, meet spend, cancel, repeat which is how I accumulated millions of miles over the years. Not anymore as the economy has strengthened and banks no longer need the customers as they had when the financial crises started. Amex has a once a lifetime bonus, Chase has their 5/24 rule, Citi also has limitations now. IMO the golden age of points/miles was probably 2-4 years ago, now slowly fading away...

I want to share with you guys an interesting redemption I did recently, maybe someone will find it useful.

I redeemed Krisflyer points for HAN-KUL recently. I noticed EVA (Star Alliance partner) had a strange married segment flight they sell at a ridiculous price (RM66xx compared to RM19xx-RM23xx for competing airlines in Business). Sample: http://goo.gl/flights/ISpZ

As you can see it involves flying up from HAN to TPE (2+ hours), "layover" in TPE for 17hr (arrive afternoon and fly out early next morning), TPE to KUL (4+ hours). As far as service goes I thought the "Taiwanese" touch on EVA was a really good experience compared to the usual westernized service you get on SQ etc. For example they have a wide selection of teas from matcha milk tea, Japanese hojicha (served in an appropriate cup for it) to Pu Er/other Chinese classics. Other airlines won't even make the distinction let alone serve it in proper cups (Taiwanese take their teas very seriously). Also I got lucky and they used A330s for both my segments that day. Not the best or most advanced seat (early 00s angled flat), but gets the job done. If you have time it's not a bad way to get home. Also maybe to get out of Taoyuan airport to see Taipei a little bit. The new EVA lounges are pretty decent to spend time in, all new.

The interesting part is, HAN-KUL is technically same region on the award chart even though TPE isn't. If I redeemed HAN-TPE it would be 27.5k one way, TPE-KUL will be another 27.5k. But because of routing rules and a long layover, this particular itinerary HAN-(TPE)-KUL is 20k one way. For taxes it came to S$138.70.

Not the most amazing redemption ever, I thought there was fair value :-)

Edit: A more blatant example would be KUL-SIN via TPE http://goo.gl/flights/ROxL RM99xx "value". I really wonder if anyone buys these tickets. I didn't ticket this so I'm not even sure the agent will allow it! :-) It's even SEA1 to SEA1, so it only comes to 17.5k in J. Amazing.

You would only do this if the purpose for flying is.... well, flying....and enjoying the lounges and services on board...

And yes, people have written trip reports on such journeys on airlines.net....lol

Thanks for sharing. Never thought I would like EVA as I normally detest all Taiwanese cutesy things but like you, I found the experience of flying with them quite nice.

Hi, anyone received the new VI card with PayWave functionality? is it possible to get them to reissue one c without PW functionality?
still prefer the chip authentication method.

UPDATE:
Customer service says all Visa card with PIN and Pay comes with Visa PW functionality so can't request for replacement w/o it. shakehead.gif
