Hi, I'm new here in this forum biggrin.gif

I recently finished my SPM (thank god) and plan to go Form 6 for the "challenge"... So I was wondering which school has the best reputation for Form 6 (I know the fact the government decides where a person goes).

Some of my friends say colleges (like T.A.R.) provides Form 6 and is better(in term of teaching method, curricular etc) and more "fun" but the fact it'll cost more.

So, if the money factor is taken out of question, which school/college has better reputation for Form 6 in KL?

I have only one thing to say...
a good student can graduate from the worse school.....

other than that, ask from seniors who have studied in that particular school and seek their testimonies.

Yes I agree... But I totally think a teacher's guidance is also important... We don't want them t exactly spoon feed us with knowledge but at least share a piece of their brain with the students tongue.gif

I'm a student in SMKKB and I'll most probably end up being there either and my seniors are like "pros" and they reckon my school's Form 6 is ranged acceptable only...

For form 6, if you really study hard, then it doesn't matter what school you go to.

You're going to form 6 for the challenge ?
Becareful of what you wish for...

Going to TARC because its more "fun" lolx. This is STPM/form 6 not A levels or random diploma courses.

The school itself doesn't really play much of an important role unless the teachers you get are really hopeless. Either way, there's always tuitions. As far good schools and colleges, I second MBS.

As a lower 6 / upper 6 student for 2006/2007 from SMKKB , I forewarn you not to take STPM too lightly.

u might consider catholic high school , i am from northern ... but i used to try out catholic punya Qs , they are indeed very high standard .

but , for form6 , it all depends on yourself . must be determinded . you mihgt not enter university on the cousse u liked . but if u can go for the colleges skip foundation year for about 15-17K . whcih is alot .

always remember this thing , in education , there is no waste on stuff u learnt .

enjoy ur study at form6 . and dont waste ur 1st lower six ...

Thanks for advice... I may have toyed for 5 years in secondary school but no more "play play"... Ha ha

About TARc, my friend say there's more freedom there as the rules are not too harsh and you'll get to feel the college life although you're actually there for Form 6. I've never been to TARc before (not even their open day) so I don't know how if the stories are true.

@BridgestoneRE711
Yea I know... The reason I going for form 6 is not for the chance to go local U anyway. My dad told me if they didn't offer me the course I want I can go anywhere I like rclxms.gif

You have forgotten that you can only do so if your result permits you to do so.

Cs and Ds won't bring you anywhere that you want.

This may come as a shock but I'd recommend maxwell school for STPM if you intend to look for a school in or around KL. They may not have much of a reputation for SPM and below level, but the standards for STPM is pretty high. It's relatively easy to get into STPM there as there is no control imposed by the Ministry.

On the issue of KTJ - it doesn't offer STPM/ Form 6. It only offers up to Form 5, and thereafter A-Level studies.

try St. John's... It has a long history but i'm not sure about the teaching staff nowadays. Anywayz, IF u wanna do well in F6, the key is perseverence n hardwork. I've seen many-a-friend have their studies go wayward due to the simple fact that they're close to home and there r too many distractions.

Can't really blame them... Lucky (or unlucky, whichever way u look at) for me, i went to Kedah for matriculation all the way in Changlun (7 km from thailand laugh.gif). Absolutely nothing there save for my books... Boring eh?!?!

I was from SMK SS17. Most of the teachers there are amazing, their dedication unmatched so far to me smile.gif

Particularly: Maths S & T, Chemistry, Accounts, Economics.

I have personally seen these teachers give extra classes, miss recess breaks to teach finish the lesson, clarify questions and get you reference on the next class, borrow books in the school library for you for reference, mark any extra paper you pass to them, (well, if you have already finished the mountain load of work they gave you xD which is enough to get A) They are all also very nice people smile.gif

However downside is a not-so active student environment xD maybe you get more time to study haha

SMK SS17 also produced one of the highest amount of straight A scorers 2 years ago (my senior's batch tongue.gif) in Malaysia

Another more reputable school is SMK Seafield. I wanted to appeal to go there initially but in the end i thought 17 was okay smile.gif and also i visited their school once before form 6 started and one of their teachers were extremely rude and sarcastic to me....so that sort of put me off (I took English Lit tuition though from one of their English teachers biggrin.gif )

Both schools in Subang smile.gif

MBS might have lost many good teachers, but there are still some left. smile.gif

I would say self-study is the best. Teachers are there just to guide you and not to spoon-feed you. Doesn't mean that if you go to a best school, you'll be guaranteed good results.

Added on April 3, 2009, 7:36 pmEek, typo. I meant "doesn't mean that if you go to THE best school"

There are quite a number of schools that offer Form Six, how many subjects are you planning to take?

It's in the middle of May, you wuld have to go to the school for registration. This applies to every school that offers Form 6.

chean in da forum also? cool! Ex mbs-ian here! Here to testify that mbs has a lot of good teachers BUT they are all leaving one by one.... And God knows why... Its also quite true that the admins are screwing it up... BUT it all voice down how much effor you put in the end... So dont expect the teachers to spoon feed you all the time... MBS is the place to be... =D

Haha, but going to the best schools won't guarantee excellent results unless you yourself work hard for it.

I don't think it makes a difference whether you go to the best school or not.. For form 6 it comes down to hard work, determination and some luck + logical thinking.. Plus also it is determined by the teachers who are teaching you, some of the best teachers teaches in not so best schools, so that's what u should be looking for in my opinion..

Off the record, I studied my STPM in St. Paul's Institution, Seremban.. Been a true Paulian and La Sallian in my 11 years of studying and probably the best school I've ever been, not because it's top but because the memories I have there.. happy.gif

If I want to go to Matrikulasi but I am waiting for their reply (rayuan) now, can I register with form 6 first? Are they going to cancel my matrikulasi place if I register form 6?

SMK HULU KELANG IS THE BEST!!..
there are only a few of student..
so the teachers can focus on u..

cikgu sadiah = guru cemerlang pengajian am
mr.tiew = guru cemerlang history. (2008,got 100% for history)
cikgu syam = munsyi dewan (very2 good teacher)
and some more..

title 'guru cemerlang' is national award for teacher in malaysia..

that is the quality of the teachers there..

p/s : my time only got 5 students in my class...haha

It depends on which school you go to.

Yes, you can do that. That was what my friend did two years ago. smile.gif And she got her appeal approved. She didn't come back for Form Six after the school holidays.
