Hi,

I just gotten my car 1 week ago. It is time for me to wash and wax for the first time.

My intended routine is:

1st step: Wash with Meg Gold Class car wash.
2nd step: Dry with microfiber.
3rd step: Clay with Meg Quik Detailer as lubricant using PG clay.
4th step: Wax with Meg Ultimate Paste Wax.

So my questions are:

1. When washing, is microfiber wash mitts acceptable? It is a lot cheaper them lambwool mitts.
2. Is spray wax or quik detailer necessary when drying the car? Or is it recommended?
3. When buffing off the wax, what type of microfiber cloth should I use? Comparing the cloths made by PG, the washing microfiber has a rougher texture, while the polishing microfiber has a finer texture.
4. What wax would you guys recommend?

1. Yes... I'm using that as well. Would say more important is the pre-rinse to get the sand n debris off and the wash technique.
2. Necessary, no. Recommended yes.
3. Use soft plush mf cloths.
4. Depends on your budget and brand preference. Many out there. I'm using the ultimate paste wax. No complaints.

I will be using the 2 bucket method with grit guard.

When drying with QD/spray wax, will it interfere with my claying process or even the final waxing? Can I use turtle spray wax to dry then wax with Ultimate Paste Wax? Also which is the preferred method, drying with quik detailer or drying with spray wax?

Oops.. i missed your steps in prior post. Here's what i suggest..

1. Pre-rinse with a pressure washer (really this helps a lot if u are able to use it)
2. Wash with car shampoo
3. Rinse. No need to dry. Don't use drying aid.. just wasting product as this point.
4. Using the car shampoo diluted as lubricant, clay the car. No need for QD. Meguiar's GC has pretty good lubricity.
5. Rinse and dry. Now you may apply drying aid (spray wax) if you do not intend to use paste/liquid wax. Else skip the spray wax.
6. Apply wax, whether it is paste/liquid.
7. Admire results

For in between wax maintenance..
1. Pre-rinse with a pressure washer
2. Wash with car shampoo
3. Rinse.
4. Use drying aid and dry car.
5. Admire results

Thanks for you reply!

I'll be following your recommended routine.

A few questions:
1. I just bought Meguiars Gold Class Liquid Wax. A friend of mine told me that liquid wax does not provide a complete wax protection, as in liquid wax is used to touch up paste wax. Is that true? I couldn't find any info. Should I go back to the store to exchange my liquid wax to paste wax? Price is the same.

2. I bought Osren degreaser FX for wheels cleaning, but only after I got home and read the label, I notice there is no mention of it being used for wheels. Is that the correct wash soap to clean wheels? I'm driving the latest model of Mazda 2. I am not sure what type of wheel it is.

3. Also does the brand of clay matters? I kept noticing soft99 and PG clay. I got myself the Osren clay.

4. Does Meguiars Quik Detailer require rinsing with water after use on paint surface? I recently used QD to remove lizard droppings.

5. Do you have any idea where I can buy lug brush in Subang Jaya Selangor?

1. Nonsense.. just a matter of preference. I find its easier to control the application quantity with the paste thou.
2. I don't think you need a degreaser unless the wheels are very dirty. Guess it should be ok thou make sure to use the correct dilution per instructions. I use car shampoo for my wheels as its painted. If you're not sure, i would suggest to err on the side of caution.
3. I'm using PG clay. Any brand above should be fine. Just be aware there are different levels of abrasiveness. So choose the less one as a start.
4. Nope.. no rinsing needed for QD. I know PG QD leaves streaks thou.. so don't ever buy that.
5. U can use a soft small painter's brush with the metal part taped up. Any DIY shop i would think..

How would you grade the abrasiveness of the PG clay? Do you have any experiene with the Osren clay?

I think I will be using the car wash for my wheels too.

Will be starting to wash my car at 5pm when the temperature isn't hot.

PG has 3 types. 1,2 & 3. with 1 the least abrasive.
If your car is black / very dark use 1.
Else use 2.
No idea with Osren.

Have fun.

It wasn't fun..

Took me 2 hours to open the products packaging, washing the buckets and I only got to wash my 4 wheels.

I will wash and wax tomorrow morning. I thought 2 fluorescent tubes will be bright enough for me to see, but I was wrong. Will start around 7 am so the water won't dry up itself.

By the way, when I was washing my wheels I thought of something, should I be spraying water to the wheel parts. I see lots of exposed metal. Will it rust?

U'll get your routine down after couple of times.
Try to get brighter lights. Else u will find later that u have missed spots. Quite irritating for an ocd smile.gif
I take about 2hrs for my weekly routine which includes the interior and engine bay.
Btw.. If u keep up with the weekly spray waxing, u'll find the car is easier to maintain.

Since wheel areas are meant to be exposed to the elements, it shouldn't rust.

Oh I never thought of spray waxes. Will check them out.

Do you have any experience with Osren? Do they have an exchange policy? Just asking but will call them tomorrow.

I am done washing and waxing my car. At first I wanted to use car wash as the lubricant for claying. But then when the car is wet and soapy I can't feel with my finger or hand whether or not claying is necessary. I didn't want to clay the whole car. So I ended drying the car and testing with my finger tips. I end up claying my whole car.....with QD. Next time I'm just gonna clay the whole car.

I noticed there are some spots of quik detailer that I did not dry off. Like the plastic exterior parts and rubber seal. Is that fine?

Henry demo-ed wheel cleaning using Osren degreaser in one of the video. Check it out  smile.gif (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBLWwsrKI6E)
You might not need to use the degreaser every time when you wash your wheel, probably once in a while or when the car wheels are really dirty.

Osren should have lug brush too. I saw it in their website.

I didn't plan my trip really well. I thought there's a lug brush at home. Anyway I got it from Ace Hardware. Not all branches carry it though.

Recently it has been raining a lot. After each time it rains it is inconvenient for me to dry the car. I notice there are water spots. If I were to wash the car weekly, will I be able to remove the water spots before it is permanent on the car paint?

Yes very easy to be removed if you get your car wash weekly.

Recently I just realise my roof is leaking. The roof over my car. And it has been raining and there are mineral deposits on my paint. I intend to clay it off the next time I wash my car. Any advice?

Previously I used the KIT liquid MAX WAX to clean the stain and it worked. But every time I wash the car I have to use it.
I think so.

Gonna buy Meguiars GC wax, any recommendation place to buy?
Saw lazada selling RM135 now, what's the market price?

I do not recommend Gold Class wax. It is carnauba based. However, this is solely my opinion.

I applied mine. For the next 2 weeks I washed my car on a weekly interval. The beading effect of the wax is gone which indicates the wax is gone. After doing some online checking apparently carnauba melts under the hot sun. Not recommend for use in Malaysia.

Try synthetic sealants.
