Hi guys after reading through this thread, there are many diff types products out there.
And everyone seem to have their own preference / method.

I have a 4 yrs old white car, and 2 silver methalic (wife & parents)
due to not taking good care of my white car, there are now stain on the bonnet which is difficult to remove. see picture below
there are also water mark on wind screen & windows. although i apply Rain X after wash, the water mark is visible.

What i want to try achieve
1) weekly wash
2) remove stain from the bonnet
3) remove water mark from wind screen (possible?)
4) apply wax / sealant for protection

any suggestions would be great & appreciated.

Our methods may vary but the fundamentals are of the same. Basically practice 2 bucket with grit guard wash to prevent as little swirls as possible.

Removing stain from the bonnet can be done easily with light polish based on your pic. White car...memang like that. stains and dirts are easily noticeable.

Rainx does not remove watermark. It merely lay a hydrophobic layer to repel water.
You will need to polish it. you can either find a dedicated window polisher (cerium oxide based) or whack with meguairs ultimate compound.

thanks for your reply.
been searching up youtube video (on polish & waxing) and Meguiar's products (maybe due to their marketing and can get from Parkson)

i think my car need
1) clay bar
2) compound
3) polish
4) wax

i have few questions hope the sifus will help me..

1) for clay bar what lubricant should i use? Meguiar's ultimate quick detailer is quite pricey. is it ok to use just soap water?
2) compound & polish can be done by hand? or DA tools is best?
3) if DA tools is needed, can i use Meguiar´s G3500INT DA Power System on a normal SKIL hand drill? the normal drill only has 1 speed. its that ok?
4) waxing is ok to apply by hand right?
5) for the application pad, can just use normal pad? MG's pad are so expansive.
or im thinking to get the Meguiar's G3501INT DA Compound Power Pack
6) if i have not done any of the above, and use Meguiar's ultimate wash & wax, i won't be able to get the wax effect after the car wash right?
7) if i have done the above and use ultimate wash & wax, do i still need to apply ultimate quick wax after each wash?

noted thanks guys for your helpful advise.

i have corded drill.
http://www.11street.my seem to have some good discount on MG's products atm.. so im shopping there..
but i already bought UWW from parkson last time.. so will just finish it up before move to other shampoo..~~

i think for starter i wont get the DA tools first.. its costly and i just starting..
1) how fast do you guys use up your clay bar?
2) also can clay bar be use on wind screen which has water mark?
i just bought this 3M clay bar 200gm. do u think it is good?
3) is there any curing time needed after apply compound & polish ?
4) is it recommended to do session by session of 2' x 2' instead of whole car at once?
5) for waxing final step, is it better to use paste wax instead of spray wax? i'd guess paste wax will last longer ?

will order this week days and hopefully can start work this weekend. can't wait!

how do you guys maintain micro fibre cloth?

is it recommended to split different MF cloth for diff application? say compound / polish / wax, all use diff MF cloth?

Need more help from you guys. to clarify the steps below.. will try to work on my car tomorrow..

1) clay - with soapy water
2) compound & polish - work while wet, means you pour some of the liquid onto the pad, rub a specific surface until you don't see the liquid anymore right?
3) then move to the next area/surface. there is no need to buff it off right?
4) after compound is there any washing needed? or can straight away proceed to polish?
5) MG Soft Foam Applicator Pad is suitable for all 3 steps? (compound, polish, wax)

sorry for the long winded questions, just need to make sure i get it right before i start.. thanks

thanks bro. managed to get the answers from youtube last night..

this morning i started off by cleaning my car at 10am. finish that in about 45 mins.
claying really took a while. the 3M clay bar that i use could not remove the tiny black tar marks on my white car. i had to use finger nail to really remove them.
i use about 3/5 clar bar. they kept dropping to the floor when i work on the bottom side!
claying took about 1.5 to 2 hours cry.gif

compound - i use foam pad, 3 pcs, and run out of foam pad. 3pcs was not enough to compound the whole car? i managed to finish about 2/3 of the car.
no choise, had to clean the foam pad and let them dry while i take a break. my arms were really tired already.
by compound, managed to get rid of the stubborn black stain on the bonnet..
compound also took about 1.5 to 2 hours cry.gif

it was close to 5 pm already. i had to skip polish if not i won't finish in time.

finish waxing around 6.30pm using MG ultimate paste wax. it comes with black foam pad. i think i apply too much wax. 9pm and it is not fully cured yet. should i wait til tomorrow morning only buff off the wax?

no photo as i was really tired lol. i think i might get the DA tools for corded hand drill for the next car.. ranting.gif

lol.. nobody commented that compound shouldn't be done by hand.. and i thought i just start detailing, not sure if i will continue, so first try it out by hand first.. who would have known... my arms alright tho.. still feeling sore after 2 days, great workout indeed lol

after compound, i felt the white car is more white now. and i buff off the wax monday morning, it pretty much cured and i can feel a layer of wax that's smooth. will wait til this weekend to wash & see. will apply spray wax also.
i'll leave the polishing to another time when the wax wear out i guess..
and noted taken, next time i'll just apply a thin layer of wax biggrin.gif

by the way, how many times can a car paint sustain compound before the paint wears out? i assume by compound you actually remove a thin layer of the undercoat or the paint?

great, will read up more as you suggest, thanks rclxms.gif

i'd assume once we've done claying & compound, with proper wax protection you shouldn't need to clay & compound so soon?

using MF cloth to hold the clay, why didn't i think of that? lol
good tips, will keep that in mind rclxms.gif

i need a recommendation for a cheap & reliable DA polisher

BLACK & DECKER Waxer/Polisher -- is this any good for beginner?

@ kitleon81 - you mention you use a black & decker, is it this one that you're using?

Guys, i found out after done compound on 25/10, swirl marks still visible on my car boot. will check on my bonnet when i can.
what is the reason swirl mark still visible after done compound? was it not done correctly?
i use the two pail system but haven't get the grit guard, but i try not to stir too hard.

will consider to get grit guard from osren. anyone know how much are theirs?
Meguair's cost around RM70 i feel is too expansive..

talking about pressure washer, i have a unit but too lazy to use it. is it recommended after i've done paste waxing? will the pressure washer somehow remove the wax because of the high pressure? lol

also i have trouble cleaning my MF cloth after buffing of the paste wax. any advise?
thanks!

http://meguiarsdirect.com.my/ is doing sales now! cheaper than motormad
i thought both website is same company?
looking to top up ultimate quick wax. am thinking i might be using too much and it finish too soon. anyway highly recommend to use on windscreen, much better than rainx although more expansive. but my person experience ultimate quick wax is really good on windscreen!

anyone tried meguiars wheel spoke brush before? it is worth to get it at RM42.40?

i use 3M claybars with ultimate wash & wax, lub is ok but the claybar keeps falling off from my hand when claying the under guard area. someone here advise to use a cloth to hold the claybar so that it wont feel so slick and fall off..

i just recently bought the osren grit guard systen (grit guard + pail) for RM90 incl GST.. yet to try it tho.. the grit guard will prevent & block the water from stirring at bottom.

quick question -
DAS6PRO - RM680 (Osren) is this model DAP8 ? Orbit Size: 8mm
Fake Rupes = RM850 (osren) is this model DAP15 ? Orbit Diameter Size: 15mm

before wax, you need to consider whether u need to claybar, compound, polish before u apply wax, depends on the outcome u want?
wax only protect your car from dirt and make it easier to do your weekly car wash. paint surface also feel smoother due to the hydrophobic the wax provide.

so far my white car, 4 years already, white pain also turn yellowish due to negligence. i did bring it to car wash to polish twice maybe, but those only last 2-4 weeks, then the effect gone. probably due they use All in One cleaner wax.

after read from the sifu here, i bought 3M claybar, Meg compound, Meg polish, Meg ultimate paste wax, Meguiar's G17516 Ultimate Quik Wax

spent 3/4 day claybar and compound the whole car, i tell myself i will leave polish to another time. lol.. then proceed to apply too much paste wax by the evening, and could not buff off the wax at night, left it until next morning only buff off (bad idea).

anyway after all that the car looks like new car again, hydrophobic effect is still there after 3 months, but the car need compound again, due to sometimes i do car wash every 2 weeks, sometimes not around / busy to do weekly wash... will share some photo when available..
