Anyone heard of graphene coating? I read that it's unlike ceramic coating. It solves the problem of water etching in ceramic coating?

Yes , but the price is really expenaive , a pure graphene is totally diff with graphene INFUSED coating
If you wash your car once a week or two , waterspot is no a really big issue
But if you wash every 2 month , alll bets are off
*
Yes, so far saw two brands, and double the price of ceramic coating. And the product is not mature enough? YouTube also have very less videos on this graphene coating.

apply is superb easy, timing to buff off and noticing high spot is different story. mine when buff off certain area will haze and if didn't notice enough, next day gg, tho it still reflects lights like a mirror until you go near to see. bye.gif
my roof I still haven't buy Meguiar's Ultimate Compound to try.
*

Some coating need to buff off within few minutes due to our humid and hot weather. Maybe can apply the coating on cooler day and have enough light to check all the coating are buff off. Be patient while buffing off, change to new buffing towel if needed.

speaking about towel, doing coating is wasting towel and applicator cloth. Regardless i throw into soap water and rinse, the textile will turn harden and not suitable for car paint use.

You can get cheap and quality applicator suede and buffing towel from IGL. Yes, it might crystallises. For me case, the applicator suede crystallised but the buffing towel didn't. But I'll not use the buffing towel for other purpose again tho.

Apply Magic 101 platinum tyre shine on my tyres.
Looks shiny and not oily, let's see how long it can stay shiny.

Anyone has any experience with watermark removers?

Scouting around - asides from those really cheap products - so far I've come across 2 - IGL Delete & CarPro's Spotless.

Spotless is out of stock though.

Just wondering if there's any alternatives or feedback to these products?
*
I am using Delete. It removes water spot very well even I dilute it 1:1 with water.

I've used Waxco Water Mark Remover on my windscreen. Very strong solution. Works well for windscreen.

It depends on the water spot. If it's etched into car paint, maybe it wont work so well.

Hmm I see.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm wondering if those watermarks that appears due to overnight rain and then sunny day and evaporates by itself will cause it to etch into the paint already?

I do have some water marks especially on the roof area which I can't wash off with regular wash solution.
*
You can try Delete. It should do the work. The stubborn water spot just rub few more times and it will be removed.
My car same situation as yours, but mine is ceramic coated.

Hmm, my parent's cars hardly clayed in years so I was using it few days ago on half bonnet on 2 cars but the marring was there on both cars.

I first noticed the marring on my own ride when I used it on the A Pillars and front fenders about 3-4 months ago. Exactly same marring as per the pic.

I am waiting for my clay bar to arrive - bought so-called 3M imitation type on Shopee and will give it a try. From what I understand, clay bars rarely cause marring if it's used well and with proper lubrication.
*
I bought the "3M clay bar" once during my early days of diy car detailing, it was like melting and sticking onto the paint.
I used it on a small panel and stopped. Does it works as a clay bar? Yes, but its disadvantages is far greater than advantages.

Yes, proper lubrication with proper clay bars/mitt etc.

so what do you recommend me especially for a new car?
glossy and water beading are the reason i asking
*
I will recommend ceramic coating if you have the budget and don't mind some waterspot. My car is ceramic coated since Dec last year, water beading and gloss still same as first day. If you're interested, can refer to my signature.

What is the problem of this car paint?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

At first I compound it with Ultimate Compound but it became whiter.

Then I tried wet sanding 1500,2000 and 3000 grit then compound it again. It was glossy but next day back to square one.

I used car paint thickness gauge it was around 120-160micrometer, other panels are 200-300micrometer. It's Subaru Forester.

To me it looks like your top-coat had worn out. Repainting just that panel would do, maybe around 250-300

looks suspiciously like the top coat / clear coat of the original paint work has worn off - nothing much you can do other than repaint the whole panel and then reapply the clear coat.

the reason why it got "whiter" is because your polishing removed the surface contaminants and the "glossy" effect is from the oil of the polishing compound. once the oil wears off, it went back to square one.
*
Agree. My initial thought is also the clearcoat worn off after I tested with car paint thickness gauge. The owner never send the car for detailing, only hand polishing by himself. He told me one day he did the polishing and suddenly heavy downpour thus he didn't buff off the polish. It becomes like this since then. I find it strange for a panel that is not repainted, never done machine polish, wet sanding but the car paint is very thin. My guess is the polish chemical damaged the clear coat. The polish is bought from Tiktok unknown brand.

why would he not be able to buff the polishing oils off when it rains? did he do the polishing out in the open?

most people confused polishing and waxing and very often people thought they are one of the same so my guess is that the owner actually bought a "waxing" product (not polish) and then applied it. given how toxic tiktok is, the "wax" that he purchased is probably shi- and either is very acidic or alkaline in nature which resulted what you are seeing.

does the blemish only appears on certain spots of the front hood or is also found on other areas of the car?

by the way, did you also gauge the paint thickness on the other parts of the car (eg: the roof?) - are they consistent throughout?

The place is half shaded. Can't blame him as not everyone is enthusiastic in car care.
Yup only the car bonnet where he did the polishing.
Yes, I did. Consistently measured at 200-300micrometer.
