Hmm I see.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm wondering if those watermarks that appears due to overnight rain and then sunny day and evaporates by itself will cause it to etch into the paint already?

I do have some water marks especially on the roof area which I can't wash off with regular wash solution.
*
Overnight isn’t watermark, confirmed not etched cause need heat to etch in. Those type definitely Spotless can remove. I haven’t tried Delete.

If those baked watermarks, Spotless can reduce a bit and usually left the edges of each watermark there. Have to polish off.

Another product for you to consider is Osren's StainX. It's basically acid and was told by Osren this product is used to remove watermark on paint. Tho I never used it for this purpose before, instead I used it to clear watermark on mirrors. lol.
*
Does it work? I mean if its stronger than Spotless...?

So likely the Stain-X is stronger acid base... I'm tired of polishing glass ._. rear windscreen and the small triangle I wanna use strong acid base but I tried spotless cannot make it.

I never use spotless before so I am not sure. Tho from using it I feel it's strong acid. I tested it on a car that has severe watermarks on windows, and I mean very bad. It can remove like 85 percent of it. If window only have light watermarks, I would not recommend stainx, too risky.

If you wanna get it, I believe there are also cheaper alternatives on shopee (no brand acid for clearing watermarks), someone shared shopee links few weeks ago.
*
CarPro Spotless is acid, at least once I accidentally touched it on the cloth my skin became red and had the hot sensation.

Watermark looked like this, this portion I used the little wool thingy to work it out by hand. When I use machine, the effect not as clean. I suspect maybe I used too little product or I went too fast (not patient enough). Weekend perhaps will try work on the rear windscreen... the front one I give up, sometime in the future I will polish again laugh.gif

On Sunday when I was giving the car a wash and weather looked a little better. Decided to see if I could polish the headlamp without wet sanding,

Took almost forever, first I tried with a cutting pad (Shinemate blue I think) then swapped to microfiber and end up the yellowish slowly come out 😅 PlastX... will arrange another day to wet sand it then polish nicely before I spray samurai 2k clear coat on.

Last time I did on my Myvi the result was quite good, I went with 800 grit to 2000 grit then wool pad and polish pad on the headlamp. But after 2 weeks it started going yellow again cause I didn’t protect it, but then car was sold after that lah.

Impressive work bro!

Very brave and steady to do wet sanding work + clearing those hazed headlamps.

I did MF pad + Meg's StainX for this round, no wet sanding. But previous car I did wet sanding and the outcome much nicer, back then I used drill rotary to finish biggrin.gif

Just to share an update on my clay mitt usage:

user posted image

Previously bought mid 2019 from China.

Lately been using it on and off, either on my ride or parents and I noticed significant marring on the paint after using it.

It will look something like this:

user posted image

End up although surface is 'smooth' but the look is such a turn off which means I need to use either compound, polish and several passes of hand application only for those marring to disappear. I don't use the DA cos it's a bit inconvenient so I usually apply these products by hand using applicators and manually buffing off with towel thereafter.

As for the clay mitt marring issue, I'm not sure whether it's due to improper storage, as I dry it away from sun but exposed to elements since I don't store it in a jar of water like what I do with my clay cloth. So the clay part is quite dry although I will dip it in solution and use lubricant when claying anyways.

The marring is quite bad that I'm tempted throw the clay mitt and revert back to clay cloth and the traditional clay bar instead...

Tips anyone?

The marring is indeed an eyesore.
*
QUOTE(V429 @ May 5 2020, 10:22 AM)
May I ask how often do you clay the car? Because usually I read : only clay when necessary, and by the looks of it they usually only clay before machine polishing.
*
This is why I'm a little skeptical about using clay cloth cause the dirt is going to cause marring. Clay bar can keep changing for new surface so I guess generally safer, but slower due to small surface size.

QUOTE(woodentiger86 @ May 5 2020, 10:36 AM)
Hmm, my parent's cars hardly clayed in years so I was using it few days ago on half bonnet on 2 cars but the marring was there on both cars.

I first noticed the marring on my own ride when I used it on the A Pillars and front fenders about 3-4 months ago. Exactly same marring as per the pic.

I am waiting for my clay bar to arrive - bought so-called 3M imitation type on Shopee and will give it a try. From what I understand, clay bars rarely cause marring if it's used well and with proper lubrication.
*
Yes, use proper lubrication. Expensive way = quick detailer tongue.gif I'm going with the ONR QD dilution spray. I only do claying before I polish though.

For my City's headlight i use this product, so far so good, only things that you need to reuse this product once the headlight cover turns into yellowish again

Yes, I'm going to spray 2k clear coat to seal it after polish.

recently found a new scratch on my rear bumper, dono cause by me or wifey..lol
after searching around, bought this Ezy Touch Up from shopee. which have exactly my paint code.
the name is Ezy Touch Up, but it was not easy at all especially want to make it flat and control within scratch area. after many tries, end up i purposely apply the clear coat more then scratch surface, like the pics below. i think and hope i can level it by compount the orange peel after it totally dry up about a month later. gosh...its a torture to wait for a month!
and the color is abit different under some angle of lighting.

Kinda tempted to try paste wax again - Soft 99 Kiwami comes to mind...

Me on the other hand prefers spray type instead now haha! Last time the spray wax doesn't last long, but with the current "Ceramic wax" spray type it is way more durable than before. So just gotta use up my old products then voila can focus on the spray only.

1 month ago I remember claying with ONR as lube then applying the Osren spray SiO2, then today I noticed the amount of marrings 😅 phone can’t capture most of them, but can see the direction all in 1 cause I clay single direction 😅.
user posted image

This area is a test spot I did few days ago when doing the headlamp 😅 so big diff!
user posted image

Sunlight also revealed I did a shit job in the windscreen 🤣 but I shall leave it to next round lah. Today perhaps experiment with the rear windscreen 😆

Perhaps will compare between the Osren glass polish against CarPro ceriglass see which is better (before I fully deplete my Osren glass polish).

Rounded them up 😆

Other way around, clay to remove contaminants before you polish. Reduces the amount of contaminants sticking to your pad.

Hmm, have to define 'hard' cos mine is those raindrops that dried off on the roof when the water beads overnight and I don't wipe them away... So I'm guessing those stains are like less than 1 month old. Only MCO period the car is exposed to the daily sun and rain.

It does come off with either polish/compound though but I'm wondering if using watermark remover will be a faster and more feasible solution?
*
Based on your explanation, the mild acid based type should be able to remove eg. CarPro Spotless. My car has black piano finish, that one if I use Spotless able to remove but causes marring to the finish 😅 damn finicky finish.

Will give it a try after I've received my watermark remover. Ought to work nicely too. thumbsup.gif

Yea, darker coloured cars are quite a challenge to maintain and need to find that sweet spot before the car becomes all swirled up. Painful part is it's easier to see vs those with lighter hues. brows.gif

What I think is... black piano plastic finish, is worse than black paint with clear coat >_<

For paintwork shine & gloss effect, will this be a better alternative to soft99 wax?
*
Fusso coat 12 months definitely last longer, busuk2 have 3 months. This spray Sio2 likely 3-4 weeks at the same condition, but the user experience of the spray SiO2 much better than paste wax. Spray wipe and done.

QUOTE(woodentiger86 @ May 13 2020, 01:06 PM)
I would say Soft99 products hold their own, although at the moment the don't have many spray on type asides from Mirror Coat Shine.

The rest such as Fusso Coat are normally either liquid or paste type...

If you have Soft99 at the moment, I'm sure it's quite good and bang-for-buck too bro.
*
Soft99 has the luxury gloss or luxury spray wax, but it really don't last uhh. About 1 week max.

Oh man, forgotten about the Luxury Gloss and that product which they said Platinum Egg. brows.gif

You mentioned a key point there - user experience.

Nowadays time is of the essence and the joys of having a product with almost zero cure time is quite appealing.

Spray, maybe dwell a little while, then buff off, then run the fingers across and feel how incredibly smooth the surface becomes!

And that's without even doing full on claying + applying traditional paste waxes!
*
I don't remember the SiO2 sprays makes the surface slick like waxes does though, but it beads like crazy lah. If user experience is good, I tend to do it more often = more protection haha!

Thanks for the advise. Yes waxing is time consuming, not to mention energy consuming!  But the satisfaction after DIY waxing your car is priceless.

Guess I'll give the F30 a waxing this week. It's almost a year since it's last detailing. Plus Osren's SiO2 after that  brows.gif
*
You might want to consider going straight to Osren SiO2 instead of a wax layer first, the emulsifier might remove the first layer anyways.

That's impressive bro.

What colour is your ride? Are there any noticeable swirl marks?

Not expecting a perfect showroom ride but like mine, I only kept it swirl free for like a month only despite or because of my rather overzealous detailing habits. Haha.

Then again, having a car that beads well seems better than many of the neglected rides out there with oily sheen on their paint/windscreens.
*
When I was first into detailing, I had that dream to keep my car really clean and sparkling... but eventually I came to realize it is not doable for daily driver LOL. So my style for paint work is just 1 compound + 1 polish, if can be removed good. If cannot, next round... don't want to level so much clear coat in a go.

Side note, just ordered the SGCB Detail Polisher... haha wanna try detailing the black piano interior... wife's car gonna be white mice tongue.gif.

Sad right. I think if our weather here not so hot and humid it's possible to keep car clean. Imagine wax protection that can last for 9 months!

May I ask how often do you compound + polishing your car? And how does the detail polisher work actually? Connect it to a rotary polisher?
*
Bought my car in July 2017, total did twice compound + polish (2018 and 2019 CNY haha...). The rest is AIO about 6-9 months once tongue.gif.

Detail polisher is a mini rotary that can go to tight spots biggrin.gif yes powered by another rotary. I think its easier to go to the tight spots... my car has many black piano plastic finishes interior... especially at my steering many scratches haih.

So MCO period is the time where I go to war against glass watermark, I tried several combinations with my 5" and 3" DA, but didn't get consistent result. This time around I tried with my 3" rotary (well I didn't have a big rotary so the mini lah). Results are much better! But the weather kinda spoilt it, so... evening continue.
