Hi bro thanks for response. My coating was from a brand called GM-Tech, they claim was German tech. For me now when I run my fingertip over my car surface it’s no longer smooth even after a car wash so my assumption was that the coating is all gone. Water also doesn’t bead on it anymore bye.gif is my assumption right or wrong?
*
GM-Tech has 3 coatings range, but generally they are okay brand when it comes to coating. Usually hydrophobic is gone in the first year for majority of brands, and smoothness is not the correct way to judge if the coating is still there.
Without hydrophobic & smoothness doesnt mean the coating is no longer there, but it is very difficult to judge. Perhaps u can try to claybar and see if hydrophobic comes back.
How many years of warranty given by the shop? GM-tech doesnt give warranty themselves, it is the shop that is giving.

Solution:
1. cheap alternative, use spray coating like SnS or Meguair's or Cerakote's, but re-apply every 3-6 months
2. if budget permits, go for better coating where warranty is given by the brand itself and maintenance includes topper to refresh the hydrophobic property every 6 months, for example cerakote's graphene coating

if your car is no longer shiny and u want to make it shine again, polish is the only way if the coating is gone

My GM-Tech had 2 or 3 years of warranty, but it's already past that now since I got my car July 2018 cry.gif

I want my car to be shiny again, but my main dilemma now is whether want to self-wax every 3 months or just do coating and go back for maintenance every 6-12 months. Really want to try DIY waxing to learn how to take care of my car but not quite sure I'll have the discipline to see it through rolleyes.gif

I think it depends on u. If u can DIY wash & wax, why not? Better satisfaction and u can try different wax products. Even if u do coating, u still need to maintain it..

if u want it to be shiny again, before u wax, polish first. wax generally lasts 2-3 months, spray coating lasts around 6 months. wax is a pain in the a** to apply and buff, spray coating very easy wipe on wipe off. coating u already tried yourself, maintenance is not done by you so its the easiest, but of course $$$
if u got budget, go for coating, if not and u're not very committed to it, try spray coating. wax is so outdated

Is the spray coating you mentioned something like https://www.meguiars.com/automotive/product...n-g190526-26-oz? Is it widely considered the "modern" version of waxing? Basically same effect as waxing but easier and last longer?

yes something like this. There are 3 in the market that people always talk about, Meguiars, Turtle wax seal n shine, and cerakote graphene spray coating. all 3 are good, personally i prefer cerakote's for the ease of application and the smoothness

Lazy mode... just do it every 2-3 weeks after car wash. But it doesn't cling very well la, but definitely returns the beadings.

I have Osren Coatz applied last year merdeka weekend.

rpm is one, but does it have the torque? When you press it might just stop LOL.

3400 don’t know what is this unit.

But often some entry polisher on wire might even slow down or stop when pressed.

sweat.gif good luck with that. Suitable for wax application perhaps. Not for paint correction.

Just did my first car wash with just water and gentle swipes with washing mitt after 1 week of graphene-coating my car, was told better not to use shampoo for the first week.

The hydrophobic effect is superb (well of course for the first week), and I can easily remove the watermarks that were exposed to sunlight for about 5 days thumbsup.gif

Any Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer (BSD) (287 400) fans here?

Just thought I should share this - I found some "ridiculously cheap" Sonax BSD (~RM50) on Shopee (but they're shipped from Vietnam).
I said "ridiculously cheap" because Sonax BSD is being sold at RM150 in the Malaysian official store.

Are these fake products?
Or are we being ripped off by the local distributor?

I got curious and did a google search to see how much is Sonax BSD in US as a point of reference
US $12.95 (~RM54) - https://www.autogeek.net/sonax-brilliant-shine-detailer.html
RRP US $16.99 (~RM70) - https://www.sonaxusa.com/sonax-quick-detail-spray.html
11 EUR (~RM52) - https://www.amazon.de/-/en/SONAX-287400-XTR...373&sr=8-3&th=1

What do you guys think?
Either way I've placed an order for two Sonax items, both shipped from Vietnam. Will update once received.
