I worked in Weihai and Rongcheng in Shandong province for 7 months during my shipbuilding days. Not too bad. Halal food are easy to find cause got a few chinese muslim restaurants. Sometimes i cook also. Town is clean but the air is heavy and polluted. But chinese KTV joints are excellent 
Weekend can go visit historical places or spend the afternoon on the seaside or visit neighbouring towns.
