Would the features of the MSI Gaming M5 be worth it over the Asus Pro Gaming Z170?

What you could do is get the rest of the components which your budgets allows and use the processors iGPU for the time being as the next generation of cards will be dropping sometime soon in about 4 months based on speculation. That way you won't be salty when you realise a new card has been released in the same price bracket performs if not better.

Probably add another 4GB memory stick. Wait for the next generation of GPU'S since your current isn't too bad.

Not a good idea. Intel's single core performance is much better than what AMD can offer at the moment at least till Zen comes. If you want to save some money then get the i5 non K version.

If you're going last gen then you have to get the older motherboard and DDR3 ram.
