need: able to run all games on medium(+30 fps)  or better at 768p

eGPU requires external power supply and PE4C adapter.

PE4C isn't easy to find in local shop, you may need to search for it yourself.

Most likely you are able to get GTX950 (RM 700) + FSP Hexa+ 400W (RM 150) + PE4C adapter (price unknown) within your budget.
*
I was investigating the option of eGPU as well last year, it turns out too complicated for me, there are people in lowyat forum that has done it.
the cheapest on is from China taobao they use a dell laptop psu to power the eGPU, but you need to connect to laptops MSATA port or something, thats if you are lucky have a spare one that works in your laptop, otherwise people take their wifi card out and use that port to interface with eGPU, and use a USB wifi stick. the back of the laptop is hacked opened,

Other solution is if you laptop has a express card (extincted stuff) then its even better, no need to hack your laptop.
Best solution is use thunderbolt connector, only on modern high end laptops

There is another Taiwan company sells the egpu hardware much better firmware/compatible then the chinese version, but expensive.
i remember the chinese version has soo many compatible issues, when you find the seller they will tell you what laptop has been tested and runing ok. just search forum lowyat for more info, and google it too. i remember there was this other website that had a tone of usefull info.

As mentioned earlier, it is hard to find it in Malaysia, most likely you need to do back to back order or buy from Amazon/Ebay etc, just do query search on 'PE4C' on the Internet and you will see which online stores have it (likely from overseas).

google is your friend
I too lazy googling it and posting the links for you

that is how i know about it last time, i google and read a lot of info probably spend 1-2 days researching, you probably can make it under 1k but the time it takes for you to configuring it can take a very long.
thats why i gave up, better just buy normal pc for gaming.

like terrace said google PE4C
the last time i googled egpu and lowyat forum showed up on page 1 or 2, if not just include it in your search.
from memory there is a seller on taobao that has lots of description, also last time someone on /k/ selling the same item 2nd hand, probably cant get it going lol

Hi guys, can anyone recommend me the spec for a multimedia PC?

Budget is around 3500-4000, system unit only, no need keyboard, mouse or monitor.

My boyfriend said must get with good graphic, because he will use it for gaming sometimes.

Simple gaming? How simple is that? If it is only some basic 2D games, then you can remove the GPU (or downgrade it if the software you use requires CUDA).

Thank you so much for the recommendation. smile.gif

I have a couple of questions if you dont mind.

Can I get i7 instead of i5? i7 is better right?
Why is the graphic so expensive?
Is 8GB ram enough according to your experience?
Do I need the 1TB HDD? I was thinking of using external HDD for storage.

both of them are the same, if you're going to multi task a lot, better take i7, if not, just go with i5
for the graphic, you said that your boyfriend want a good graphic, good graphic : more expensive
8GB ram is enough, based on my experience, dont know bout others sweat.gif
For the HDD, up to you

You asked for a multimedia PC without stating extra information, so I assume it is for gaming (for your BF), movies, browsing and etc which aren't CPU demanding at all so I went with i5 instead of i7, i7 won't benefit you for those tasks listed unless you are going to do video rendering/editing etc.

You said you must get a good graphics card for gaming, so I included a high end GPU for you, please bear in mind GPU price is always > CPU price, consumer grade i7 costs at most 1.6k but consumer grade GPU can go as high as 4k (and more).

As for RAM, same thing as well, you didn't state what you are going to do with the PC, for basic stuffs (even gaming), 8GB is enough.

1TB HDD is the standard nowadays, 500GB is just around RM 20 cheaper than 1TB which isn't worth at all. Game/FHD movie file size is getting bigger and bigger nowadays, 1TB HDD is just barely enough TBH.

External HDD normally comes with 5,400 RPM only which is slower than internal HDD's 7,200 RPM FYI.
