ohh okayy :3
so either wait for GTX 1080Ti or wait for the next series (presumably GTX 2080)?
*
If you are coming from 980Ti, then wait for 1080Ti if you want to upgrade.

If you are coming from 970/980, then you can upgrade to 1070/1080 if you want to upgrade or wait for 1080Ti if you can wait and budget is not an issue.

Next gen card should be 11xx series.

I want to get more knowledge on DIY gaming rig without monitor based price. Can you guys give me any links or ideas on building an RM999 gaming rig or less for Dota 2 and certain 2016 games at Low to Medium graphic setting.

Just wanted to use budget resources to have 2-3 similar PC for lan games etc.
*
Intel Pentium G4400 - RM 236
Asus H110M-K - RM 273
Corsair 4GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 76
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
CM Elite Power 350W - RM 126
Armageddon T1x - RM 85

Total: RM 1011 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

1k budget is too low to build a new rig, the outcome would be pretty disappointing, if you don't mind 2nd hand items, try to hunt for them in Garage Sales.

Frankly speaking, I used a DIY computer for 7 years and the cost for repair and upgrade already reached RM3000+ so I was thinking of setting up a mini LAN kind of party for many friends or so to compete. Making a budget yet performing type of rig is more than enough to me.

So, let's say I want at least 5 PC so the budget would not be costly if I were to get a good quote. Yes, second hand or refurbished is quite good as well for those who don't have PC's nowadays as some are less than RM500 but definitely would refer to your quoting indeed.

How about you try to quote me another with cheap graphic card? Thanks for the help.
*
The build comes with the lowest end Skylake Intel CPU already, it is not possible to squeeze in any discrete GPU if budget remains the same unless you go for generic case + PSU (not recommended in long run), 500GB HDD (save you most likely RM 30+/-) and Haswell platform (save another few bucks or so).

Yeah. I wanted to make like a mini-LAN shop so I believed RM999 is achievable if tone down some of the specs. Cause some company they sell that price but using Celeron and such only which I think there are better ways to achieve a budget gaming rig for Dota 2 , Hearthstone and etc. Graphic cards? What would you think?
*
I would go for this instead, the iGPU (HD 530) is almost equivalent to GT740/R7 250.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 480
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 249
Kingston 4GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 80
Seagate Momentus Thin 500GB HDD - RM 177
Generic PSU + case ~ RM 50

Total: RM 1036

If you really want to have a discrete GPU, then you gonna do this.

Intel Pentium G4400 - RM 238
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 249
Kingston 4GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 80
Gainward GT730 1GB GDDR5 - RM 245
Seagate Momentus Thin 500GB HDD - RM 177
Generic PSU + case ~ RM 50

Total: RM 1039

Price referenced from Techview expect the generic PSU + case which is solely based on my estimation

Generally i3 build will have better performance than G4400 + weak GT730.

P/S: I am not responsible for any kind of damage caused by the use of generic (non-branded) PSU.

Need sifus opinion on this build:

Purpose: Gaming (Anno2205, Witcher 3, LoL, ...), Microsoft Office, Browsing, Movie...

Processor: INTEL CORE i5 6500
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG M9I cooler
Mobo: GIGABYTE H170-HD3
Ram: G.SKILL AEGIS Series 8GB DDR4 2133mhz
GPU: GIGABYTE GTX970 XTREME 4GB DDR5 256BIT
PSU: Seasonic M12II-620 EVO
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 250GB SSD
HDD: WD 1TB Caviar Blue 7200RPM
Case: CORSAIR 400C
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64Bit
Monitor: DELL 24" S2415H (1920x1200)

Is it good?
*
Are you gonna build/buy it now?

If not then please can wait for AMD Polaris GPU, the performance will be better than current gen GPU considering it is the replacement for R9 380/R9 390 which is already slightly better than GTX960/GTX970 now.

How bout game compatibility? I read amd sometime have game problem...so a bit scare to use amd
*
Compatibility issue? So far none, except GameWorks enabled games whose performance is lower than Nvidia card due to close to zero optimization for AMD card but this is expected since GameWorks is made to run on Nvidia card purposely, but you can disable the GameWorks settings in game (if there is any).

DX12 is significantly faster on AMD card compared to Nvidia card due to lack of async compute support from Nvidia.

So each card has their own advantages and disadvantages.

*
If you were to get current gen card (soon to be last gen) i.e. GTX970, I suggest you to get R9 390 instead, it runs faster on DX12 titles, more and more DX12 titles are coming soon so the R9 390 is definitely more future proof and it comes with 8GB VRAM as well (vs GTX970's 4GB).

Hi terence,

Could you kindly recommend a build with around RM4000 including monitor? Saw you mentioning about AMD Polaris when will that be launch?

Thank you.
*
For gaming right?

AMD Polaris is rumored to launch in Computex 2016 (end of May) and may reach here by June or July (fingers crossed).

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 815
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 128
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 195
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Tecware Alpha - RM 189
BenQ GW2270 - RM 379

Total: RM 2300 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

GPU and PSU aren't included in the list because I think you gonna wait for next gen GPU before building the rig, PSU is not included due to unknown power requirements for the Polaris card.

I am itchy on getting myself a new rig, planning on gaming with a 144hz.

Left pc gaming a while ago, my current rig is too old as below :

Xeon E5450 (newly installed for better work productivity)
Radeon 4850
4 gigs DDR2
SSD 120g
Win 10

Cant play current gen game on medium, last medium settings was bioshock infinite at 1080p, slow but playable.

Waited this long, should i buy now or wait a little bit more for polaris, zen or new intel cpu (heard its usingi the same socket with current gen skylake.

Im thinking of getting myself a new cpu, ram and mobo monitor / or buy a gtx 1070 or r9 380x for now to play games while waiting for the new cpu. Any ideas and recommendations ?

Any input is deeply appreciated thanks
*
You can go ahead and get the current Skylake CPU, the improvements over each gen is small for Intel CPU, AMD Zen is coming later this year with unknown time frame at the moment.

GTX1070 and R9 380X are under different tier (high end vs mid end gaming), so comparing them side by side will just give a big advantage to GTX1070.

What's your budget?

5k-6k max for rig, another 1k for monitor. But if possible wouldnt want to overkill, general games played over pc are fps and strategy.
*
Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1274
Gigabyte H170-HD3 (D4) - RM 446
Corsair 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 256
Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD - RM 305
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
Tecware Alpha - RM 189

Total: RM 3048 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

GTX1070 FE- RM 2299 (Pre-order price)
GTX1080 FE - RM 3300 (Pre-order price)

Acer Predator XB241H - RM 1899 (1080p 144Hz GSync)

Assuming you take the GTX1070 FE at RM 2299 and the monitor, the total cost would be RM 7246, minor overbudget (7k total budget), you can wait for AIB version (non-reference) of GTX1070, price should be slightly lower.

If you want to save even more, downgrade the monitor to a normal 1080p 144Hz without GSync feature, it should be able to save you roughly RM 700+/-.

You can wait for AMD Polaris to see what AMD is capable to do this time but don't expect they can beat Pascal because Polaris 10/11 is aimed at mainstream gaming market, presumably to replace R9 380/R9 390 (< 2k).

Wow, thanks for the detailed recommendation.

But why H170 and not Z170 ? is there much of a difference ? and is 620w enough ?

I'll definitely get GTX1070 as i plan on gaming at 1080p. 4k seems far fetch even with gtx1080 as you can see from the benchmarks there's a lot of dip below 60fps at 4k. And yeah it would be cheaper if the non reference is released earlier. Btw, where can i preorder 1070 at that price ?

I'll check out the monitor, was planning on a benq xl2411z.
*
Z170 is for overclocking.

620W is more than enough, the new Pascal GPU requires only 1 8-pin PCIe connector from PSU (so it is 75W from PCIe itself and 150W from PCIe power connector, max 225W only) thumbup.gif

You can pre-order at Techview/ETech/Idealtech etc.

5820K requires X99 mobo, this will increase the total cost, if you are really keen to board X99 platform, please wait for the refresh version (Broadwell-E) instead, coming very soon, will debut at Computex as well.

5820K is a hexa core CPU and it is made for overclocking, it doesn't come with stock cooler, so you need to spend some money to get a CPU cooler for it.

Yes for gaming bro. Wow I have to wait for another quarter to build a PC seems long hmm..

If so the new GPU will it be more expensive or price around R9? If I don't want to wait for Polaris could you recommend another build since my PC is broken already..

Hyper transport flood sync it seems..
*
You can just buy the PC without GPU first and use the iGPU of Skylake i5 (HD 530) for gaming while waiting for new GPU to reach Malaysia. HD 530 is capable to run Dota 2 at medium settings around 50 FPS (example).

Price of new Polaris GPU is remain unknown but I think it will be around the same price range since AMD said they are aiming mainstream GPU market in the upcoming Polaris 10/11 architecture, Nvidia Pascal is out of your reach FYI.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 815
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 128
Sapphire R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Nitro - RM 1490
Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD - RM 195
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Seasonic S12II 620W - RM 303
Tecware Alpha - RM 189
BenQ GW2270 - RM 379

Total: RM 4093 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Bro what is the usage for SSD? To install my OS in there? Games install in HDD?

Thanks!
*
SSD speed up the boot time and improves the overall system responsiveness.

SSD is expensive and we usually install OS on it only and HDD for other files.

You can only store the most played games on the SSD to reduce the time needed to load the game.

Bro, any comment on i7 5820k ? is it a good buy ?
*
Have you checked my edited post earlier?

It is a hexa core CPU, some games work well with it some don't, especially those games which operate heavily on single threaded concept where speed of the core > amount of core available.

Going to i7 5820K requires X99 mobo, this increases the total cost needed to build the rig, you need to spend money to get a decent CPU cooler as well.

If purely gaming only, i7 6700 is able to serve you well already.

What do you think of my spec? This solely costed me around 3K since 2007 until today. Need more upgrade as it's DIY. The one who mentioned budget gaming rig around RM999 is here again! Any more preferences for hardware upgrade?

1. My 500GB hard disc looks slow
2. My motherboard was "zapped" by lightning but usable
3. Generic PSU is 500watts used for 9 years almost

What do you think I should do with my own gaming rig for now? Based on NovaBench. And I wanted to build a dreamland of 4 to 5 budget gaming PC's that is able to play 50-60FPS on Dota 2 , Overwatch , CS:GO and League of Legends at least.
*
I believe you upgraded the CPU to 3rd gen i5 in the past few years because there wasn't any Core i series CPU in the market in 2007 biggrin.gif

So now you want to upgrade your main rig to something more powerful right? Budget and what settings/games you would like to play?

And the 4 to 5 budget gaming PC, still same budget (RM 999 I assume)?

Medium to High settings!

The budget one, you already stated though but if you can try to downgrade every spec and it cost below RM999, I'll be grateful too. I always believe there is a market for that.  laugh.gif
*
For medium to high settings, please look for GTX960/R9 380, you are recommended to switch the PSU for this upgrade, or wait for the upcoming Polaris GPU.

As for the budget PC, it's hitting the limit already, try to negotiate with the shopkeeper if you want to keep below 1k but I think minor over budget should be fine.

@terence,

If i were to pick Sapphire R9 390x Tri X OC for my rig is it worth it? Performance wise compare to R9 390 is it significantly better?
*
R9 390X is like an overclocked version of R9 390, around 20% faster.

Worth or not, well it depends on the price of the card, if it is too close to 2k then you better wait for non-reference unit of GTX1070 instead.
