Hi guys any recommendation on a DDR4 rig?

[Budget] No Specific Budget. Prefer as low as possible.

[Purpose] 24/7 Daily Usage for DDR4 DRAM testing (work)

Will be solely used for DDR4 testing so its the top priority. =)
As far as I know, only skylake i7 and x99 chipset supports ddr4 ram. Correct me if im wrong.
*
New Intel Skylake (6th gen) CPU supports DDR4 RAM module.

About your testing, what kind of test you would like to carry out? Overclocking it?

If it is solely for real life daily task (browsing, basic workload etc.) then it is very hard to notice the difference between DDR4 and DDR3.

Hi Guys,

I'm planning to build a gaming rig that supports all the latest and mostly high end games.
Please help me to build this rig and if possible future proof.

[Budget] Below 4K if possible.

[Purpose] Purely gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Intel i7-6700 Processor and GIGABYTE H170M-D3H

[Monitor resolution] Suggest me a good big monitor with the perfect resolution

[Games & softwares that use frequently] GTA V, The Witcher 3, Just Cause, Battlefield 4, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.....

[Personal preferences] Possible with ssd ? Not sure if it significantly helps with gaming performances.

Thank you.

Hardware DRAM testing. So will be disassembling the ram module for this purpose.

Just asking, if I go for G4400 rather than i3 6100, how's the different? Izzit noticeable? I'm using only for browsing and dota 2. Plan to use it for short time, might upgrading to atleast i5 later.

I see, I have no idea on disassembling the RAM module, but will recommend a rig based on DDR4 and your requirements.

Since you only stated 24/7 daily usage and no gaming mentioned so basic i3 should be able to meet your requirement.

Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 496
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 289
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 162
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 400W - RM 145
Bitfenix Nova - RM 149

Total: RM 1456 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

SSD will not improve frame rate, only loading speed.

Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 162
Sapphire R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Nitro - RM 1549
Corsair Force LE 240GB SSD - RM 369
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
Techware Alpha White - RM 229

Total: RM 2887 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Monitor choice:
1. AOC G2778VQ FreeSync - RM 989 (FreeSync monitor, but it is 60Hz & TN)
2. Acer XB240H 144Hz - RM 1169 (High frequency, but usually you won't be able to achieve 144Hz on those games listed, very good for games like CS:GO and racing games, but it is using TN panel)
3. Dell U2417H InfinityEdge - RM 1139 (The famous Dell UltraSharp InfinityEdge monitor, successor to U2414H, one of the best 1080p IPS monitors in the market with thin bezel)

It is pure dual core (G4400) vs dual core with extra virtual core/thread (i3).

For Dota 2 and light browsing, difference is quite small, if you are planning to upgrade to i5 later then I suggest you to pick G4400 first.

Okay great! Looks good.
Another thing to ask. If I buy a 1333mhz ram, will it work on this rig? I have to see if the proc and mobo support this speed right?

DDR4 base clock is 2133MHz.

1333MHz is most likely a DDR3 RAM, which is the base clock for DDR3 RAM during Sandy Bridge (2nd gen) era.

DDR3 RAM will work on Skylake system but you need to get a DDR3 based Skylake mobo for it.

Probably add another 4GB memory stick. Wait for the next generation of GPU'S since your current isn't too bad.

Add another 4GB of RAM.

If you aren't satisfied with gaming performance, I suggest you to wait for next gen GPU before you upgrade it, 7870 isn't that bad after all, should serve you well in the next couple of months till new card arrives in Malaysia.

Since you didn't mention budget, I will go with CM Hyper 212X or Cryorig H7, both priced around RM 150+/-.

Actually stock cooler will do that cooling job just fine since you are using a locked i5 (non overclockable), but stock cooler is noisy and less efficient than aftermarket cooler, the weather in Malaysia is very hot too.

There are 2 major types of CPU cooler, air cooler and liquid cooler. Air cooler is sufficient for locked CPU, the 2 coolers I listed just now are air cooler with better cooling efficiency and lesser noise.
