Thanks for the suggestion. I mainly play Dota 2. Any suggestion for below setting and need a monitor, I don't mind over 4k.

Intel Skylake Core i5-6400 - RM 773.01
ASUS B150 PRO GAMING/AURA SOCKET 1151 - RM 557.00
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB 2133Mhz - RM 169.00
ASUS Strix GTX 960 OC 2GB GDDR5 128BIT - RM 1,015.00
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5 - RM 209.00
SAMSUNG 120GB SSD 850 EVO - RM 239.00
CORSAIR VS SERIES VS550 550W - RM 220.00
NZXT H440 - RM 509.00

Total: RM 3691 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

What I can see is plenty of overpriced stuffs especially Asus mobo and GPU, but it's your money so I won't stop you from getting them, you can always spend your money in a wiser way like getting better parts for the rig for better performance instead of aiming for certain brand name.

Hi guys,

currently i'm in a dilemma between choosing i5 or i7 proc for my gaming pc
some says that i5 is better for gaming some says that i7 is better. but, if i get i5, i may have some leftover money to upgrade my gpu.
would you guys help this brother to choose which processor is better for gaming.

p/s: i don't want to overclocked it.

my current pc specs:

proc: i5 or i7
mobo: Gigabyte H170-HD3 (D4)
RAM: Corsair 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM
GPU: Sapphire R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Nitro (stuck between choosing this gpu and GTX980/GTX970)
SSD: Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB SSD
HDD: WD Blue 1TB HDD
PSU: Seasonic S12II 620W
Case: Tecware Alpha White

this specs was suggested by terence  thumbup.gif
*
For sure the i7 which is having the hyperthreading technology (extra 4 threads) will have slight edge on gaming but not all games utilize this technology yet.

DX12 aims to reduce the CPU overhead and is believed can improve CPU utilization so i7 might become the primary CPU choice for triple A titles (even though many triple A titles recommend i7 now even in DX11 era, but it is still far from being able to fully utilizing the power of i7 though).

i5 is also good enough for gaming, get i7 only if your budget allows.

So you said you can upgrade the GPU if you go for i5 path, from R9 390 to R9 390X? Or R9 390 to GTX970/GTX980? GTX970 is slightly weaker than R9 390 though and GTX980 is more expensive than R9 390X.

i thought of taking the gtx 980 but nvm. i think i'll go for i7 and r9 390. GTX 970 is slightly weaker than r9 390 in terms of performance right? but in term of power consumption, gtx 970 is better. my main concern is the pc temperature. i want to keep my pc temperature at a standard level.
*
I suggest you to wait for next gen GPU if you are not in a rush as Nvidia is expected to announce new Pascal GPU at GTC on April 5.

Temperature is quite similar for both brands for non-reference card.

Acer Predator XB281HK, if you are using a compatible Nvidia GPU then you can take advantage of the GSync feature.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion above.

I think H110 mobo chipset is enough for me. What do you think ?

Kingston SSD reliable ?
*
H110 comes with 2 RAM slots only but for casual users, it should be enough, if you think it is ok for you then just pick H110 (save money).

Kingston SSD is ok, just need to avoid their lowest end series (V300) due to NAND issue.

Thanks again. I think I will pick H110.

Yea NAND issue. I know nothing about SSD chips but my friends are recommending me Samsung and Intel SSD.  hmm.gif

btw, do you know any reliable USB 3 Extension  tongue.gif  tongue.gif  My old CM690 dont have USB3.0 port.
*
You can go for Samsung 850 EVO then, or the lower end 750 EVO.

As for USB 3.0 PCI-E card, if you have budget then you can look for Silvestone (expensive) or Transcend (cheaper, around RM 50+).

Hi Sifu,
Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1305
Gigabyte H170-HD3 (D4) - RM 486
Sapphire R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Nitro - RM 1549

May i know if corsair vs550 enough for this build? and can you help for any motherboard that build in with usb type c ? need advice for motherboard, GPU and Processor only, mainly for gaming and video editing. Budget around RM3500 for all 3 items.. TQ in advance.
*
Too risky to run R9 390 on an entry level PSU, you are advised to get a more decent and capable PSU to run it.

Intel Core i7 6700 - RM 1258
Gigabyte H170-D3HP - RM 562
Sapphire R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Nitro - RM 1549

Total: RM 3369 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Nvidia is expected to announce next gen GPU (Pascal) tonight at GTC 2016 so you might need to hold off from getting any new GPU now.

First, thank you for prompt info.

i5 is enough for the purpose?

As for the motherboard, Asrock vs Gigabyte vs Asus, which is better? Or they are the same?

8GB RAM is more than enough right?
*
You stated [Purpose] light gaming - such as Dota2, Csgo & use for work.

For Dota 2 and CS:GO, i5 is more than enough, you never describe what you gonna do for "work" so I assume it is just some basic stuffs and not related to any kind of serious rendering/editing nod.gif

ASRock, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI are all reputable mobo manufacturers, in theory they should have similar quality, but sometimes s*** happens laugh.gif Just pray you can get a defective free unit (most likely).

As for RAM, it is related to what you gonna do as well, Dota 2, CS:GO, basic stuffs etc., 8GB is enough.

Kindly suggest me a decent cpu only build for this budget.

[Budget] RM1000 (~RM1500)

[Purpose] Photoshop, Lightroom, Dota2

[Hardwares that will be re-use] PSU Seasonic 520W and HDD.

[Monitor resolution] 1080p

[Personal preferences] Mini-ITX build if possible

[Location] Penang
*
Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 470
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 332
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 148
Palit GTX750Ti 2GB GDDR5 StormX OC - RM 509
CM Elite 110 - RM 158

Total: RM 1617 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Budget is too tight sweat.gif

If want to keep ~1k, drop the GPU.

If want to keep ~1.5k, downgrade the GPU to Sapphire R7 260X or switch to mATX build (mITX is expensive to build).

Optional upgrade:
1. GTX960
2. R9 380

Both < 1k, you can re-use your current GPU first and only get a new one when you upgrade your monitor, most likely you can get next gen Pascal and Polaris GPU by then.

HD6950 is quite an aged GPU so don't expect it is still able to perform very well in games nod.gif

Yes, Zotac is offering 5 years warranty for their GPU products.

I think it is just an error, the specs listed on the page are wrong as well.

What's in the box:
1 x Zotac GTX 970 1 x Dual 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe adapter 1 x User Manual 1 x Driver Disc

QUOTE(Reeson @ Apr 6 2016, 10:15 PM)
Hello guys,

I'm building a computer used mainly for storage.
So preferably the motherboard and casing can support many HDDs (currently have 4 HDDs, might add more).
Looking to spend around RM1000.

Needless to say the budget does not need to include HDD & don't think GPU is required.
I would prefer a fast CPU if the budget permits.

Please give your suggestions & thanks in advanced.
*
Usually low end (H110) mobo only got 4 SATA 3 ports due to chipset limitation, while mid tier mobo (B150 & H170) comes with 6 SATA 3 ports, if you want > 6 SATA 3 ports, then you need to look for specific Z170 mobo but this will jack up the cost.

Intel Core i3 4170 - RM 470
ASRock H97M Anniversary - RM 309
Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 80
FSP Hexa+ 400W - RM 145
CM K280 - RM 155 (Up to 7 3.5" drives)

Total: RM 1159 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Suggested last gen platform since it is cheaper to build.

Pascal / Polaris coming anytime soon?

Nvidia just had their conference biggrin.gif
*
Nvidia didn't announce any new GTX GPU based on Pascal/Tesla P100 yesterday, so I guess they will do it in Computex 2016.

If you cannot wait then I think you can just settle with current gen GPU then, even after they announce new GPU, it will take some time for the GPU to reach MY.
