Thats why..this PC mainly for design, wont be using it for gaming..so nVidia is better?
How fast is CUDA in rendering compare to R9 280X or R9 290 or R9 290X?  wink.gif
If similar price range, recommended get which 1?
*
I haven't had chance to test it in real life but you can try to find the statistics and comparison online.

I suggest you to stick with GTX750Ti because if you change to AMD card (R9 280 and above), you are recommended to get a more decent PSU which may cause over budget.

Hi,

- Budget [RM 300]

- casing only

- with built in dust filters, currently I'm using bitfenix alpha merc, but since my house is so dusty, I'm accumulating dust in the case.

- planning to buy aio water cooling in the future for my 290

Thanks

P/s : was recommended a phanteks enthoo pro RM 370,
*
You can consider NZXT S340 or Corsair Carbide Spec-Alpha (new) too, both are around RM 330 though.

Hi, Terence.

After some considerations, I might want to upgrade my rig in order to play Fallout 4 due to nostalgia. Would like to ask your recommendation once again.

Smooth/decent setting @ 2560x1600 for Fallout 4 would do for me.
*
Running Fallout 4 (smooth & decent settings) at your native monitor resolution requires a powerhouse GPU, you didn't state your new budget so I assume you are ok with the price of high end GPU.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 782
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 403
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 148
Sapphire R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Nitro - RM 1549
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Seasonic M12II EVO 620W - RM 363
Tecware Alpha Black - RM 219

Total: RM 3679 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

R9 390 or GTX970 is better for gaming purpose? which provide higher FPS on high or max resolution of 1080p?
*
It depends on what games you play, some games are biased towards certain camp (either green or red), therefore the games will perform miles ahead of the other camp.

If we talk about the raw performance, R9 390 is slightly more powerful than GTX970.

thx terence. As i know, GTX970 have higher memory clock speed and also lower power consumption but do the memory clock speed affect much in gaming?and if you were me to build a new rig, which will u choose? thx for your opinion  rclxms.gif
*
Memory clock speed doesn't affect gaming performance by a large margin.

It depends on your budget, if you go for R9 390 then you need a better PSU, thus increasing the total cost needed to build a gaming rig, if I have an unrestricted budget, I will go for R9 390, another option would be wait for next gen GPU which will be revealed in next few months.

Yeah, no specific budget but try not to spend as much as possible. Anyway, is CPU cooler needed? I plan to top up  BQ Shadow Rock 2 if necessary.

Thanks.
*
Not necessary in theory as it is a locked CPU, stock cooler is able to cope with the heat and temperature, if you are not satisfied with the temperature after you bought the rig then only get a 3rd party CPU cooler.

haha

thanks Terence, will decide when the time comes

Also, which brand would you use for PC fans?
*
If you have budget, you can go for high end casing fan like Noctua or Corsair, if you just want to improve airflow without spending too much money and don't care about the feature/noise level, then cheap Aerocool or CM or Thermaltake casing fan will do.

From beginning, I am fan of Xeon processor, but never know they already have another Xeon Skylake to match 6700 performance. So, is ~RM170 difference is worth the 0.2 Ghz? And I'm pretty sure this Xeon is compatible with 1151 socket.

Xeon E3 1230 V5 3.4-3.8Ghz  RM1129
Core I7 6700  3.4 ~ 4.0 RM1295

Idealtech price.
*
It is compatible with LGA1151 socket but you need C232 chipset mobo to use it.

The cheapest C232 chipset mobo is more than RM 550 now.

i7 6700 + H110/B150 is much cheaper than Xeon + C232.

[Purpose] Gaming and light rendering

[Hardwares that will be re-use] None

[Monitor resolution] 1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently]Photoshop and steam games

[Personal preferences] Something bang for the buck.. So would be best to get a quitation from an AMD and Intel build

[Location]N Sembilan
*
I will suggest Intel build for now only until next gen AMD CPU comes out in next few months, their current CPU lineup is too aged, not worth to invest anymore if your budget is healthy.

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 773
Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 403
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 148
Sapphire R9 390 8GB GDDR5 Nitro - RM 1549

Seasonic S12II 620W - RM 303
Tecware Alpha Black - RM 219
BenQ GW2270 - RM 429

Total: RM 4039 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Add SSD when you have more money in the future.

has anyone ever you it? compare to other brand, it is okay?

It is not so famous in Malaysia and I haven't had chance to try it but you can swap to Kingston HyperX Fury instead, price is almost similar.

Hey everyone! Want to ask something here.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I was wondering, to optimise the cooling and airflow, I bought the Noctua to fill in the empty gap.

So my first configuration is to have the AIO on top together with the Noctua. Front is intake, top & rear as exhaust.
Second configuration is to have the AIO at the rear, two CM fans on top and the remaining two fans in front. Intake is front, exhause is top and back.

Any thoughts?? Reason behind is that if I put a 140mm and a 120mm fan together, there would be a tiny gap between the fan thus causing some leak or interference on the airflow. Appreciate the replies!
edit: Have anyone tried using vape to check on the airflow? LOL.
*
If the temperature is within acceptable range, then I don't think you need to bother the tiny gap or difference so much.

Front and bottom as intake & top and rear as exhaust should be able to keep the airflow good enough.

QUOTE(Saladz @ Mar 30 2016, 11:40 PM)
Hi guys,

[Budget]: TBD based on necessity

[Purpose]: Heavy Multitask - easily 40-50 tabs of website, 30-40 taskbars

[Monitor resolution]: Perhaps i will change to dual or tri-monitor setup (different budget to be used for this of course)

[Games & softwares that use frequently]: Well, loads of microsoft words, excels, chrome tabs, taskbars, PDF, and some messaging platforms.

[Personal preferences]: Current rig is sometimes a little too loud when i use too much resources. I know people always say i5 is enough but my current i5 feels lacking.

[Current Rig]:

Intel Core i5 2400
Intel DH67BL Mobo
16GB (8GB x 2) DDR3 Ram
GTX750 Ti 4GB
Crucial MX100 512GB SSD
Samsung Spinpoint 1TB HDD
Corsair HX650W

The above feels laggy to me, i honestly don't know why - is it the CPU's problem? Will changing to i7 make any difference?

Thanks.
*
Check task manager and observe the usage of your CPU and RAM, if both are almost hitting the limit then it is time to carry out some upgrades.

QUOTE(Fabonacci @ Mar 31 2016, 02:25 AM)
Budget : RM 2,000

Purpose : Microsoft office, movies & long hours gaming, mostly online gaming like dota2, hearthstone, tree of savior. Graphics need to be at least above average without affecting gaming performance. Not much AAA games.

- Budget exclude monitor and other peripherals.
- Monitor run in 1080p
- Prefer to have 8gb ram.
- You might consider giving some extra allowance for the hardwares (such as slightly bigger PSU or slightly better MOBO to support future upgrade) as i most likely will upgrade the GPU/ram/cpu after 3 years time. I could have 200-300 extra budget for this if its reasonable.
Fyi, this rig is for my gamer gf. Thank you in advance sifus.
*
Intel Core i3 6100 - RM 496
Gigabyte H110M-S2PV (D4) - RM 310
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 148
Palit GTX750Ti 2GB GDDR5 StormX OC - RM 509
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
Tecware Alpha Black - RM 219

Total: RM 2085 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

Upgradability of mobo depends on the many factors, if you are talking about future CPU upgrade, then it depends on the socket of future CPU, current it is LGA1151 which is used on Skylake CPU, we don't know whether Intel is going to reuse this socket in their next gen CPU or not so this is totally out of our control.

If you are referring to SLI/CF then you need Z170 mobo which is out of your budget now, same goes to NVMe SSD support.

Physical Memory is below 50% most of the time.

But CPU Usage jumps a lot. Sometimes can be below 10% jump to over 80%. Is it heat issue? The lag issue i mentioned is like spikes.
*
So RAM is enough for now.

Jumpy CPU usage is normal when you are using the PC, if your PC is idle and CPU usage is still within high usage range then you need to check which apps are causing this in process tab.

Check temperature of the CPU with 3rd party software, make sure power management mode is set to balanced/high performance instead of power saving mode.
