let's stop a moment and reflect...

when the customs are lazy or when there is a systemic breakdown of the system and they don't bother inspecting every single parcel as they should, we rejoice because we don't get taxed. but when they do, there is hue and cry over having to pay taxes and the inconvenience of it all. that pretty much sums up malaysian mentality... malaysia baru, fikiran lama. and at the end of the day, we gotto blame someone... anyone except ourselves. awesome.

back to amiami... yeah, they generally have the best prices, but they don't carry skytube premiums or native (unless it's pre-owned stuff). hobbysearch provides excellent prices during sales. and nippon yasan... that's pretty much the place to go for the cast-offable and likely to be confiscated stuff. all excellent retailers, imo.

I don't mind to pay tax actually, but....

Before they can tax you, they will inspect the item first, which does not bode well with some figures from, say, skytube or native.

Well, to be fair, we are breaking (or atleast pushing the boundaries) of the law here with those figures...

If there is a need for me to get those figure.. I'll usually hand carry the,.. even if the customs scanned it.. they dont really care once they see its a "toy"...

bingo!

kinda like speeding... and cursing whenever kena speedtrap devil.gif

ok ok... some will argue totally different since speeding is dangerous. anyway, the point is we know we shouldn't... but hope we don't get caught. but when we do, we tend to blame others for being overzealous la... cari makan la... etc.

the question as to whether they should even tax (or allow) such figures are a separate discussion altogether though icon_rolleyes.gif

Can share what are the other sources to bypass custom? Only way I can see is to buy locally, but the price will be higher.

Nowadays i source ecchi figures from Taobao, and i will combine ship them with other smaller items. During packing they will duct tape the shit out of the parcel that it is impossible to open it without spending 30 minutes to slowly cut the tapes. Kastam not that free lah, that's why easily bypass. Not to mention usually when ppl buy a lot of items from Taobao for business purpose (they want to tax) they use ship cargo, which is way cheaper. Nowadays kastam very active targeting ship cargos. search online for "Operasi Pintas".

it is when extreme temperature changes in a very short period of time that could possibly break the rod,
else I would guess it is by external force.
What I could think of is when a figure have a relatively heavier upper body than lower body,
you need to be extremely careful when moving the figure around,
those kind of figure if you move them by simply holding on the base plate ONLY then it can very easily break said figure

Hi, I'm not too familiar with purchasing figurines online but I am planning to get this one: https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=FIGURE-038296 from AmiAmi within the next few days.

Was wondering how often do figures get held up at customs nowadays? while I can understand having to pay extra tax for it, the distance I will have to travel is quite a bit and I would prefer if I could somehow avoid this.

Also, how do they determine how much extra tax I will need to pay for a specific product?

I understand that bigger sized boxes will have a higher chance of being examined?

Thanks in advance for your help.

they will get hold up because you need to pay import tax based on the price of the figurine, cant remember the formula they used so cant help u with the price need to pay, but be prepare to fork out around 100++~200++
for toys and figurine anything above RM500 will be imposed tax
for my case I let poslaju handle the payment (meaning they will help u get the figurine released from customs), then poslaju will post it to the nearest poslaju office for u to go and collect it (they charge a certain amount called handling fee so u dun need to visit custom urself)..
whether ur shipment get inspect by customs or not is completely based on luck, but yeah bigger box are more prone to get checked

How did Poslaju handle your package from your personal experience? Just worried that they will handle the package roughly and damage my figure. If its generally alright, it would be more convenient for me to get Poslaju handle the payment in my stead.

if you parcel is detained by customs, it is usually for one of two reasons namely:

(i) tax;
(ii) suspected prohibited item.

if it's the former then yes, poslaju can handle for you the tax payment and subsequent shipment to the nearest poslaju collection centre. not sure the exact rate but i reckon approx. 6% tax and another rm50 or so in handling/delivery to collectiion centre. poslaju will contact you to confirm whether you would prefer to have them handle the custom clearance or handle that yourself. if you require poslaju to handle, be prepared to foward them a copy of the invoice. they will subsequently inform you of the tax payable upon assessment (together with their handling charges etc) and once you agree to absorb the charges, they will arrange to send it to the nearest poslaju collection centre.

if it's the latter, you've got no choice but to drive all the way to the customs and they will get you to open the parcel for inspection. if it's not a prohibited item, then you will need to produce the invoice for the customs to asses the tax, you make payment and off you go with your parcel.

i didn't usually have issues with customs in the past, but 2/2 of my parcels were detained this year. got poslaju to clear customs on my behalf.

hope that helps.

If you are worried about rough handling, dont.

Cause from Japan to here to your house.. it wont get any rougher anyway. A well packed figure will be ok, in the worst case scenario the corner edges of the box might get dented abit but the figure itself will have no damage.
