hi,noob here.
firstly,i apologise if i offend yall edifier fan.but....
around 3 years ago,i bought s4.1,n unfortunately i'm very dissapointed n the speaker been in the storeroom ever since.

i listen to hip hop/rnb,n hoping for clarity n thumpin bass that makes ur chest hurt(jus like car woofer...like when u stay in abeng discotheque...)
as i jus realize this forum,i got the urge to rejuvenate my dusty s4.1...
my first plan is to get phillip 805.
can someone guide me on this speaker mod or somethin?preamp?change cable?
i hope to unleash the beast within....
sorry if i'm too noob for yall, yall otai,i'm jus a padawan... heading to the darkside...

Here are your guides:

1. Go to the car speaker shop and buy a powerful 6.5" woofer and change it with the S4.1 subwoofer. Watt doesn't matter, it just the maximum rating anyway. Anything higher the the S4.1 subwoofer 60W is ok.

2. Change the 35V 4700uF capacitors to 10000uF minimum 35V. I think capacitor's brand doesn't matter much if u just want more bass. (Of course branded is better)

3. Add some sound absorpting cotton or sponge in the subwoofer.

4. Getting a Phillip PSC805 also a good idea, the soundcard bass is strong.

Personally, I don't prefer bass. I'm using PSC805 with my modded S4.1 currently. I moded my S4.1 to get clearer and harder bass and improve the clarity of the mid. Now the LFE of my S4.1 controller need to turn to minimum and lower the bass frequency in equalizer of foobar to get the bass that i prefered while enjoying music.

I think Edifier S4.1 is built with clarity in mind, it's the clarity the stand out among it's price range.

Have a nice try to unleash the beast of your S4.1 subwoofer.

The satelite i already changed the internal wire and the supplied wire, the original internal wire so thin, thiner than the supplied wire connecting satelites and the sub.

For the satelite, i don't know about the caps rating for the tweeter. It written 105K 250V. So I just need to change it to 2.2uF 250V solen caps, right?

I also changed all the caps in the circuits to branded one. The big caps changed to RIFA 6800uF 63V parallel soldered with 0.1uF caps. All the ceramic caps to the plastic type.

The op amp change to OPA2107 for front and bass. OPA2227 for rear.

The subwoofer i changed to Atomic Power Labs, USA 90W cost RM104. That's the best i can get in my area.

I can't find any 3" woofer anywhere to replace the satelite woofer. So, I'll replace the front satelite soon.

I changed all at once, the improvement is significant.

Since hansapkuay is requesting for more bass only, so i think he no need to mod all the part.

xterminator:

If have money to spent, i don't see any problem buying a new speaker. But the improvement that u get from moding, is something u can't buy directly.

Even the new S2.1mkII still have many things that can mod to make it better.

xterminator:

I like the S4.1 but i must say the original subwoofer is suck. THe subwoofer is soft and less elastic. Changing the subwoofer can give u more bass but of course cannot compare to a 10" subwoofer.

Want to improve sound quality or improve bass depend on what modding u perform on the current speaker u owned. Unless u want to spent more for a new speaker.

hansapkuay mention b4, he is looking for guide to mod his S4.1, so i give him one.

For modder, their hand is always gatal, anything better, they will mod it a step closer to perfect in their own way to get satifaction.

rioven:

thanks. i'll change the caps soon.

So far every review i read r saying the tweeter sounded very nice and fine, still have improvement for the tweeter if connected to a better amp.

I bought the Rifa from SxxxxWell in jln pasar. I think they only have a pair only at that time. One for RM28. I'm damn sure i'll buy it at that time. Some China modder said it is the best in the world?
With my knowledge I don't dare to say it, I only can agree it is among the best. What do u think?

Have you changed ur op amp? and I would also like to know the subwoofer's spec and brand u r using.

I'm sure u also know the original ne5532 aren't going to bring the sound up to next level.

Assume that the ne5532 and your mod only can drive the satelite ~85% of it's sound quality. I'm sure a OPA2227 can bring the details up to 100%. I think my current OPA2107 is driving it at 101%, no more juice to squeeze out. Cannot have too much expectation for the satelite too. The cost of manufacturing is less than RM80 for one satelite. For this kind of money, I can say the sound quality is respectable. Some say it is better than R1900T3.

Well, it also depends on the sound characteristic u prefer.

Although I cannot estimate how much improvement has gained for my system, but the original S4.1 gave me a really good and impressive impression.

Hope to hear good news from u in near future.

Hey guys, I think I have a problem with the variable resistor of my S2.1D controller. Where can I get a replacement? Which shop?

Turn to the back of the controller and take out those black things n u'll see screws.

I don't think u can find any decent 3 inch driver, unless u hav some serious lobang.

When i did my S4.1 modding 2 yrs ago, I tried to search the whole jalan pasar, but found nothing.

So, i replaced the front satelites with KEF Cresta 10.

3 inch driver hav it's limitation no matter how decent it can goes, or u can try to make a bigger casing n fit a bigger woofer...

The market price for Cresta 10 is RM999. i got it while stock clearance, so the price is much lower than that. (I'm not suppose to tell here huh?)

U can also try:

PSB Alpha B1

or other speakers

as long as the speaker's sensitivity is high, the sound will be nice...for the small amp like ur S2.1D....20W per channel
