I do agree that the S2.1M feels underpowered. The loudness output isn't that loud. I only push the volume up when I'm taking a shower though, gotta listen to music every time man.
So far, its performing well, very good instrument separation and the bass is pretty accurate, though it isn't the tightest bass, but it is still pretty tight. The sound staging is quite freaking wide, for gaming, when I play CS:S I can really hear the opponents footsteps from far to near. Which is gives a good advantage.
Mids are strong and sweet, the highs are clear but not shrill [a major improvement over the VS4121, which the highs is really shrilly.]
One thing I did really like bout the VS4121 down-firing design is that it directs the sound multi-directional, but it drowns the mids a little.
The S2.1M has small design flaw, they should have angled the midrange driver and the tweeter slightly upwards, cause we won't get to hear every single detail if the sound is directed to our shoulder.
About the distortion on higher volumes, so far I only experience that on less well encoded digital audio, no such problems with most of my lossless audio and higher bitrate encoded digital audio formats.
All in all, an excellent buy. I'm a satisfied user.
