Royal Malaysian Navy to consolidate its ship classes to prepare for the future

Depiction of the Royal Malaysian Navy's LCS-SGPV design

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) is set to consolidate all its naval units from 15 classes to five in an effort to strengthen the country’s maritime security.

Navy chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin said this is part of the RMN’s transformation programme to strengthen its armada and also to be cost effective.

“The replacement process will be done in stages. We will focus on the abilities of the local industry and from 15 classes we will consolidate it to five classes.

“The five classes are New Generation Patrol Vessels (NGPV), Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), submarines, Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) and Multi Support Ships.

“This will be done in accordance with the allocation set by the Government,” he said after accompanying Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to launch the keel-laying ceremony for the first of six LCS’ at the Boustead Naval Shipyard here yesterday.

The RMN is set to be bolstered by six LCS built by Bousted, an associate company under Bousted Heavy Industries Corporation Berhad (BHIC).

I think it just a stop gap measure only, mostly idea would be buy a LPD. but for RMN it might have to wait after completion of LCS project.

Agree.Indonesia above Israel.Myanmar better than Malaysia and the most laughable part is pinoy better than Singapore. Not trying to insult any country but they should realize that the ranking is totally base on numbers.
*
Speaking of all this ranking, is there any website that are actually better analysis of a country military capability?

Is CTRM only focus on small and medium sized UAV only ?
Has CTRM build any long endurance (flying time more than 20+ hours) UAV yet?

KUCHING: The four Malaysian hostages held captive in Southern Philippines are being held by an armed group led by Majan Sahidjuan.

According to a statement from the Philippines Embassy to The Borneo Post, intelligence information revealed that the four Malaysian kidnap victims are currently in the vicinity of Indanan, Sulu under the custody of the armed kidnap group.

“Philippines law enforcement authorities continue to conduct sustained, delicate operations for the recovery of the victims, without endangering the latter’s lives,” the statement said.

“Our hearts go out to their families and friends, and join them in prayers for the immediate resolution of the incident and for the safe return of the victims.”

Wong Teck Gang (31), Wong Teck Chii (29), Wong Hung Sing (34) and Johnny Lau Jung Hien (21) were kidnapped by eight gunmen who boarded their tugboat about 100km from Tawau on April 2.

In media reports, Majan Sahidjuan alias “Apo Mike”, is believed to be a sub-leader in the Abu Sayyaf militant group.

PH now know WHERE and WHO , since PH don't want help from others ,let see how PH plan to rescue the hostage.

End of the day is pinoy pride.
Ill equipped  and poorly  coordinated. Resulted in their demise.

Who the hell go to a conflict area in soft skin trucks. It like a sitting duck. Even outdated apc like bmp is a better choice. Though a rpg hit it dead in its tracks.

Malaysia should just shut down the border with PH.
if PH complain, just say to them the border will only open back after all malaysia hostages arrive back to Malaysia safe and alive.

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ May 10 2016, 11:41 PM)
Very bad design. You're basically asking your infantry to dismount straight into enemy fire.

There's a reason most IFV/APC have rear exit ramps, so that the infantry will be covered by the hull of the vehicle from frontal fire.  laugh.gif
*
QUOTE(DDG_Ross @ May 10 2016, 11:54 PM)
well the particular apc do have a rear ramp similar to the israeli achzarit

user posted image

but i more concern the front ramp is practically a "weak point" in the armor
looks like just a few plates of armor that protects the whole cabin crew to the enemy fire
*
can't imagine if a RPG fly straight into it when it dismount infantry.
