Hi there guys, currently studying in Aus now so I'm looking to purchase a new lappy. Stuck between these two:

http://www.msy.com.au/nswonline/notebooks/...2gb-gtx950.html

http://www.msy.com.au/nswonline/notebooks/...4g-gtx960m.html

So I was wondering is the extra A$120 (roughly MYR360) for the 960M is actually worth it? I'm guessing it's just a small improvement? Though benchmark scores are 1411 vs 1684 for the 950M and 960M respectively.

If you really prefer the looks and frame rate of your game to be better, go for GTX960M. If somehow you can get a GTX970M for almost around the price for GTX960M, then go for the 970M. The improvement should be noticable between the 950M and the 960M.

It's most probably GDDR5 since it's a 2GB variant for 950M.

I'm not looking into heavy gaming so it's now stuck between the 950m and 960m. The V Nitro is really tempting plus it's aesthetically way better looking arghh tough choice rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Don't buy a laptop because it's beautiful
Buy a laptop for their after sales service

Get Dell then add extra for their next business day onsite service to help you in the future
Unlike Acer, Dell has a next business day onsite service where they will repair / replace faulty laptop right on your doorstep / office

Imagine your Acer laptop goes faulty where you have to send the laptop to their service center for repairs and wait 1 ~ 3 weeks to get it repaired
With Dell, they will repair it on the spot in the comfort of your own home / office

If you're not that much into gaming, why not simply go with 940M? It is quite capable to play game on 720p and some on 1080p. You could also use the extra cash to upgrade to SSD. smile.gif

But R5 is quite a departure from GTX950M and GTX960M. At least 940M isn't that much difference. But it always ultimately lies on TS's decision. Go for what feels the most right, since we are spending our own money on it.

If got budget, go for GTX980, GTX970, or at least GTX960.. bcos future game will need high graphic card to support, so u no need to change your NB in short period..

I would but then the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 offered in australia are pretty much crap others are too high price.
It's about MYR4000 back home but here they smack in a 1TB hybrid drive and then bump the price up to 1.7kAUD

By light gaming I mean not playing the latest games at the highest settings, gonna be playing rust which can be quite intensive as well.

if you're in overseas, stick to a brand that's trusted locally over there.
Universally speaking, Dell has great aftersales services. Next to them would be the Clevo resellers.

MSI? ACER? ASUS? I won't really bet my money on them. True, some places have great warranty, but others, you'll find yourself pulling hairs and scream your head off. They've sold you a laptop, and you're off on your own without any support (even if you return it within an hour).
