Cool or dry- which is better?

Cool mode works almost similar to the dry mode only that when the temperatures drop to 250C the compressor stops running and the fan is left on alone. In dry mode, it is all about keeping the relative humidity at a comfortable 60%. This happens in both the cool and dry mode but in dry mode this value is maintained. In cool mode, humidity keeps increasing dramatically as the fan continues running. Benefits of using dry mode include:

• Lowering moisture in the room significantly

• Maintaining comfortable temperatures without really cooling

• Energy efficient

Dry mode does not really cool the room. The cooling effect comes from the removal of excess moisture not that the unit is actually cooling the room. By using the dry function of your air conditioning unit you will be spending less money on energy bills. It is a really effective way of keeping the temperatures comfortable.

so dry mode more energy efficient anyone tried this before? hmm.gif

aircon dry mode dehumidifies the air which makes it more comfortable and allegedly more energy efficient....

cool mode just cools the air and allegedly less energy efficient

dehumidifies and maintains roughly around 60% from what i read... so not too dry should be nice.. plus our climate is very humid so i doubt can result in chapped lips ... hmm.gif

just a guess... im more interested in the possible energy saving from it

I think dry mode is good for people with sinus. Less moisture, less allergen in the air.

Energy consumption wise, no idea..lel

Doesn't cool mode also work by extracting water out of air ie dehumidifying? Isn't that the basis of all modern cooling appliances eg air con fridge etc??

but OP said the process will stop once the room temp reached 25C, hence shutting off the compressor, and leave the humidity on the rise again.
dry mode keeps the humidity level low and comfy, all the time.

modern air con always on off on off compressor to save power. during the off periods it'll be very easy for humidity to rise again

Yup use dry mode last time cause too cold use cool mode
And yes save electricity
But it seems different brand Aircon got different ways of using dry mode? I find daikin doesn't work the same way as Panasonic ?

In most parts of Malaysia dry mode doesn't work, cos heat & humidity is too high.

Best usage for electricity is to set your aircon to 24C and have a normal fan(not the built-in aircon blower) to circulate the cooled air.
When cooled air flows over your skin, you tends to feel the coldness being amplified. wink.gif

FYI the main consumption of electricity is the compressor, thus these days there are a lot of air-con with sensor and wat not to control that compressor.

best is if you can control temperature and humidity separately, but i've seen none able to do so for consumer grade air cond. centralized one can. Generally maintaining temperature consume less electricity than maintaining humidity.

From my previous online google, dry mode tend to consume more power cuz it's running to keep air dry.
