I was first intrigued and tempted by the XA Ultra but no, no, no and no. I still love my Z ultra even more despite the 8MP camera without even a 'puny' flash. laugh.gif
Other than that, the SoC also made me withdraw myself as it's well known for power hungry.

XA Ultra is not the best phone I've used. That honor goes to the original Z(C6603). Still would've used it if it hadn't got problems. That being said, XA Ultra is a fun phone to use. Maybe its because its my first time using such a huge phone. Haha.

The battery though. Really sucks. Others are fine by me. biggrin.gif

Slightly larger than an iPhone 7+ brows.gif

You should try the XZ. Can say it's one of the best Xperia that Sony did and almost on par with competitors.
Imagine it's a ppap version of X and Z. laugh.gif

The only drawback is that 2900mah battery but luckily, able to last me a day with 20-30% left.
*
XZ expensive ooo.. and it's not very appealing to me. Haha.

Have you tried the UCH-12 quick charger to... somewhat offset the average battery life? Because to me it doesn't seem to be all that... quick, for a $130+- charger.
*
Um.. I don't know about the UCH-12 quick charger wo.. its RM139 for the charger adapter head only right?. Kinda pricey. sweat.gif

Unfortunately, the XA Ultra uses a different SoC, which is Mediatek. A Mediatek phone must use Pump Express chargers, which is a quick charging technology by Mediatek. Using a Qualcomm quick charge will charge the phone at a normal rate.
*
Any Pump Express compatible charger alternatives other than the UCH-12?. UCH-12 seems quite pricey for a charger.

haven't seen one other than UCH-12. sweat.gif
it also seems to be lacking in 3rd party support.
*
The UCH-12 is too expensive.. haha

Something like this, perhaps? charger
*
Hm.. Seems okay wo..
Should be RM50-60 if sold here.

Gonna keep an eye out for more reputable brand like Belkin.. haha

I don't think there's any of the big brands that makes PE chargers, been looking around for a while now, actually.
*
Aww.. That's just sad..

Oh btw, XA Ultra retail price just dropped RM200.. doh.gif
I just bought it a week ago..

If you become my girlfriend, i will get you one for free. laugh.gif
Jokes aside, yes, understandable for those whom bought it recently. Coz i faced this situation before. sweat.gif  doh.gif
Money went down to the drain.
Haha.. sweat.gif

But then again, RM1699 with 1 year extended warranty and an overly priced thin rubber casing vs RM1499 with nothing. I think my deal was better la.. tongue.gif

Gonna compile and post some test shots with the XA Ultra rear and front camera soon biggrin.gif

Someone should bring in those PE chargers and sell em here  nod.gif

That is actually a good idea.. Many phones uses Mediatek SoCs nowadays.. HTC, Sony, Xiao Mi, Oppo are the main phones I see on the list. rclxms.gif

As a photographer of sorts, I had to do a simple review on the XA Ultra's camera.

So for a few random shots smile.gif

Overall, pretty disappointed with the camera. The resolution is there but it takes really near perfect condition to get a nice shot. Front camera however, is really nice.

Pros :
- Overall good color reproduction
- Fair speed at taking pictures
- Large screen so its easy to spot for details
- Good resolution
- Front camera flash and OIS helps alot
- Comfortable shutter button despite being thin

Cons :
- Poor autofocus speed
- Phase detection not fast enough in some cases
- Poor macro focusing(iPhone 5 does better)
- Rear camera no OIS. Pressing the shutter button fast may shake the photo
- Stock camera app settings and control are quite limited even on manual mode
- No custom white balance
- Auto mode sucks as auto white balance is not accurate most of the time indoors
- Single LED flash not powerful enough for further subjects in the dark

Thanks for reading notworthy.gif

Oh well, i believe your PM inbox gonna flooded with people to ask for your number, and i might be the first. laugh.gif
Anyway, just joking. laugh.gif

Nice review BTW. No doubt a photographer's sight. I have a A6000 but mostly serves as my leisure camera. sweat.gif
And reading this review made me wanna write a camera review for my Xperia XZ.

A6000!!! My dream camera!

I'm curious though on XZ's triple sensor.

I have the Xperia X, not sure whether the focusing distance is the same.

Last week I tried to use the rear camera to snap a high res photo of a printed 3/4R picture, it just won't focus when I get too near to the photo, was trying to get it as close as possible to get better resolution.

So what I did was to pull back, and then just zoom in, make sure the zoom is less than 2X. Since the X camera have 24 MP which is too much, I guess don't mind sacrificing a bit.

It is not really the same with macro focus, but guess it is a workaround.
*
Yup. Basically if your focus distance is lesser than the minimum focusing distance the lens won't focus. Stepping away and zooming in to focus is one way to do it. You can also snap the picture at your widest angle and then crop it later. Quality should still be okay if you don't crop too much since its a 20mp+ camera. Safer than zooming because photos tend to be blurry from handshake.

If only there are manual focusing option. That way can maximize the use of the camera's focusing distance.

Still, very disapointed with the camera la.. haha

This is why you should get the XZ, periodically. laugh.gif
Coz XZ features full manual control (finally,  lol).
*
But it's so pricey and bezel so thick.. XD

I think there's 3rd party camera apps that allow manual focus as well.. Haha.

Upon further testing, XA Ultra's main camera isn't half bad. Some skills may be required to work with the "lazy" software. I find myself needing to lock the AF by half pressing the shutter button and move the phone forward and backward to focus on small stuff on a close up shot.
