Initially eyeing the XA because the Rose Gold is so attractive but upon seeing the spec sheet, nearly puke blood and died. I mean, 290ppi 5" screen. Sooooo pixelized weh.

So I bought the XA Ultra and 1 week in, the phone is fun to use. 6" edge to edge 1080p screen is super nice and its so bright that I literally used the lowest brightness anywhere except in full daylight.

Rear camera is so so only. Really shameful to call it a 21mp f2.2 camera. Guess that's why even Sony don't put their usual camera spec labeling on the back anymore. Oh well, I shoot with a mirrorless I carry all the time anyways. The front camera however, feels more superior. 16mp f2.0, OIS and warm flash makes it a selfie king. I already take alot of selfies with my NEX-3N or Xperia Z previously. Now with the XA Ultra, I take even more selfies. Well what can I say, I'm a girl. Videos are pretty standard 1080p 30FPS. Quality is below par compared to many other phones cheaper than this.

Battery life is not good enough. 2700mAh a lil puny la for a 6" phone. Even for a light user like me, browsing some FB, chat on Whatsapp, WeChat, FB messenger, take selfies, take some lunch food photo and leaving 4G on all the time, the battery from 9am(unplug from charger) till 4pm is 15% left. Brightness is at lowest most of the time ya. No gaming. If I play a little PokeGo or Ingress, sure kong after lunch hour.

Performance from the Mediatek Octacore Helio P10 and 3GB ram is good enough for me coz I don't play heavy games. The internal storage is a major pain though. Only 16GB and no way to move apps into SD Card. No matter if you have a 256GB SD Card put in (I have a 64GB in), you will find that the internal storage is 85% used and the SD card is 10% used. I don't even install and play big games or alot of apps but my phone left 4GB of internal storage

Other features have yet to explore. Just the screen alone is hypnotizing me liao. Set a nice cityscape wallpaper and stare at it for hours. Watching videos on it feels like watching TV. Maybe due to the Bravia Engine enhancement.

Overall, happy about the phone but somewhat dissapointed on some aspect especially the internal storage and battery.

Happy :
~The Screen weh!. 6" full HD edge to edge! Even XZ don't have the sleek killer looks.
~Again, the screen. Display quality is very nice to me. IMO, its better than the over saturated AMOLED screens and with 367ppi, not the sharpest screen out there but perfectly acceptable unless you have bionic eyes.
~Front camera. What's not to love about a front facing 16mp f2.0, OIS and warm LED flash. Especially for a selfie lover like me xD
~Android 6.0 is fun.
~Performance is good enough for me
~Dual Sim Dual Standby (LTE and 2.5G) and a standalone SD Card slot. Yes, you can have it all. 3 slots in total.

Hate :
~Battery life. 2700mAh for a 6" phone?.
~Internal Storage. Only 16GB. Heavy gamers or app lovers good luck.
~The phone is slippery sometimes
~Weights a ton. Okay maybe not a ton but its heaaaaavy.

Super Hate :
~NO PROPER SCREEN PROTECTOR. You either settle for half baked half covered films or glass or full covered plastic(so called full glass) protectors that decrease the sensitivity of the phone.
~Not much choice of case. I only have 2 case up to date. Nillkin super frosted back case and Nillkin Sparkle Flip Case. The Sparkle flip case is nice coz when you flip open the case the screen turns on by itself like an iPad smart case.
~I tried every single shop in LYP, can't find a single case even clear ones and can't find a single screen protector.
~Some sony centers tried to rip me off with the full 2.5D curve glass(Actually plastic). RM129 per piece.
~Even official Sony Centers (The Curve and KLCC) don't carry screen protectors for this phone.

Just so you guys are wondering, I switched to this phone from Xperia Z and iPhone 5. 2 become 1. No more carrying 2 phones

(1)Orchids focusing is abit off. Hard to get the autofocus to focus where I want. Had to half press the shutter button to lock the AF and then move the phone to get it to focus on the right spot.


(2)Bunga Kertas color reproduction is not bad.


(3)Closer shot of the bunga kertas petals shows a substantial amount of details.

This bird shot was though. He moved around alot and the camera auto-focus is hard to catch up. Even phase detection system is not fast enough.


(5)Some green. Color reproduction is nice in this picture but quite an amount of detail loss at the edge of the picture.

(1)Focusing on the little white dot on the plant. Focus distant about 30cm with slight zoom.


What the white dot really is. About the same focusing distance on NEX-3 with SEL1855.
