i say that is a gimmick that nobody needs.

1. camera grip = external battery.  camera grip too awkward. making it too bulky.
external battery?
here, this is the elegant solution from samsung, wireless charging somemore.
2. audiophile DAP module?

laugh.gif  dude, real audiophile get this as entry level. with its own battery.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

because DAP chip consumes battery.
its a good idea, really. but audiophile doesnt want anything that is easy. because they can always get 'another' stuff.

or they can get something elegant like this.

3. replaceable battery?

yea. so how many battery did one get? this is not 2013 already.

Dude for the 2nd point is not Audiophile DAP module, its audiophile DAC module, I find it very useful to have a good DAC on a phone. Previous been lugging around 2 devices , my phone and a DAC/Amp module. Now since using LG V10, it is really really convenient. It can drive my Sony MDR-Z7 cans, I can play my DSD audio file . I spent closely to RM4k on my setup , but with LG v10 , I get somewhat close to that setup but I got better mobility. I bought the V10 for RM2499. It can drive many High End Headphones and high end IEM.
Another problem that i face when using external DAC, it connects to the phone usb, so no way for me to charge my phone while listening. So i'm draining phones battery and DAC battery.

Many phones can advertise good DAP/DAC feature, but knowing where to place the DAC /AMP chips in the phone is very crucial , and LG has done a very good job .

For an audiophile, I would buy v10 or G5 with the B&O module because you'll get a sound close to Sony's PHA-3 DAC but a better mobility and elegance.

The only thing gimmick about that is it advertise the 32 bit DAC. 24bit should be enough

There's review for the dac module already?? Can share the link?

Although I like the idea, but really skeptical about the audio quality claim that LG made. Normally those high end DAC really about fine tuning the sound with expensive caps, opamps and also clean power. All of that are not possible with the LG DAC module. So what the magic they are talking about? B&O fame or real audio quality?

Thats what Im interested in.

Bro, both v10 and g5 are using ESS Sabre DAC. I personally am using v10, i can vouch the soundstage it produces is comparable to a mid end DAC which is still good. I have PHA3 and my pioneer home theater both uses Sabre chipsets both produce excellent stereo seperation and soundstage.

As for g5, digital trend has reviewed the b&o module, which they stated uses both ESS sabre dac and EsS amp. And the review said using his Westone iem, it really something worth considering.

Heres the link
hifi plus module review

Thanks for the info!

Curious to know what DAC the S7 would be using and how well is it implemented?  hmm.gif
*
Based on previous phones i think it would be wolfson dac. Not bad. When i had my s6 edge previously, the sound was quite good, but soundstage was abit narrow

So you are an audiophile that came into the wrong thread that use sony z7 on LG v10 and stated LG V10= PHA-3?

Ok bro. I aint no audiophile, bro.
Edit : ever thought of convincing LG malaysia selling those v10 g5?
*
Bro i was replying regarding g5 dac tht was mentioned here in samsung s7 thread. i am interested bout the phone too. Of course i made some comparison with other audiophile product to show v10 n g5 dac is quite audiophile grade.

I never equate v10 with pha3, i said it was close to. I tested my z7 with v10, i also tested z7 with s6 edge. So if i tested z7 with s7 edge, n review it here regarding s7 dac, am i still in the wrong?

Its like some people who sometimes compare s7 camera quality to a dslr, is not wrong. Its all about context

Dont get me wrong here, i'm not a LG fan, i bought s6 edge when it was launched here.

It's a homebrewed Samsung DAC chip this time around, not the wolfson.
*
Usually samsung will provide software based eq ie SoundAlive. Hopefully the homebrewed dac and the soundalive can produce good output. I had to disabled sound alive in my s6, sounded abit harsh on the high/treble side

Oh no! I just realised the S7 won't have aptx! There goes my plan of having high quality wireless audio sad.gif
*
Really? I thought its a standard now for all high end phones. But CSR did introduce a new protocol called aptx HD. 24bit audio streamed wirelessly through Bluetooth.

But still, thats a crucial miss. I use a aptx headset for gym huhu. Why did samsung choose to omit this feature

I think they have never had this feature before lol. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Wireless audio is so convenient for outdoors. I often use it going to and coming back from work, using the lrt. I currently use the Sony SBH52 and just hook it to my shirt.

Wired earphones, connected to the phone, makes things messy. You always have to be careful of the wires constantly moving around and not getting entangled with things around you. My earphones are quit fragile so bending, pulling or twisting are a no no. Not to mention cable noise too.
*
Eh, i tot s6 got aptx.

True, things about wires, it might just get hook on something without u realizing it. I always put the wires inside my shirt.

Bro. Dont you miss the fun of high priced cable? laugh.gif
*
Suprising no, coz i got it free from sony. U just have to know when to buy. Sony centre sometime have promo where they give u free stuff.

2 years ago i bought sony srs x9 portable speaker, and got mdr z7 for free, i kid u not. I got a rm2.4k headphone for free.

Got a kimber kable free when i purchase pha3 combo, but sold the headphone off and kept the cable

Few months back, bought the A2 iem, got a free upgrade 3.5mm high grade cable. Cable alone worth few hundreds.

So far sony has been kind to me. Hahaha

Last time i took a picture of my s6 edge connected to my pha3 n posted in the s6 edge thread. But it was long time ago. When s6 edge launched in singapore. Bought the ap set

I always go sony centre the curve, coz my daughter likes to go to the playground near that area. So always see whats the promotion.

So if theres a good promo that i'm interested in, i go next day to prevent from my wife nagging at me for buying unnecessary items hahaha

DAC is just one of the component involved. Just because it uses certain DAC by no mean guarantee their sound quality will achieve those fine tuned DAC.

Given the limited space they had in the phone itself, or the module, I do have my doubts. Wait until its available here and then try... best is to listen to it personally.
*
I know.. do u know that Lg V10 placed their DAC and AMP at the lowest part of the phone and nearest to 3.5MM jack so it will prevent noise and will produce the best output for the DAC?

Just take a listen to a LG v10, it is one of the best implementation of DAC in a phone. playing a quiet WAV file, you will hear no noise coming out from the 3.5mm jack. This is my personal experience.

U can take the best DAC in the world, put it somewhere where it is susceptible to noise, the output will be garbage. is all about implementation and LG on the v10 has done a very good job.

If you notice on the G5 DAC module, it has its own separate 3.5mm jack. so when u use the B&O module, the phone practically has 2 3.5mm audio jack..one top, one bottom. top one would be useless I presume.
