I emailed BR about the  4.55% ,24 month FD got monthly interest or not, he did not gimme the answer, may he be missed out.

Does anyone know if that 24month promo FD 4.55% gives monthly interest??

also, 5 yr FD at 4.9-5.2% ilek...
*
Bro,

BR 4.55% for 24 months is just a promo rate so you can still opt for the monthly interest.
I already did for 2 of my BR FD renewals. Tip: though is supposed to be fresh funds but you can just renew by topping up abit more to get the promo rate tongue.gif

Don't forget to enter the SMS contest to stand the chance to win either a TV, fridge or shopping vouchers ya thumbup.gif

Come on... don't try to assume what the rich ppl is doing... high nett worth ppl no need to go to the bank... they have personal secretary to do it la.... bankers come to their office... my boss is top 50 richest in m'sia... the ppl u see at those premier/ private banking is normal rich ppl only.

Thats why it is said time and time again, if you haven't reach that level, you won't understand.  At that level, it is called "optimisation" rather than maximisation.  Reach that level first, then come back here and tell us your experience.

Only one to two person here, there's one who has a blog, reached that level.  You can tell by they way they post and see their thinking process.

Premier that good meh?  Isn't private banking better?  Seem to see MBB focussing on Premier rather than Private?  Like above, premier is bread and butter biz rather than private.

frankly, MBB private banking sucks, so is HSBC premier.  nevertheless, MBB private got alot of aunties who parton and bank in a lot of cheques.  Each check that i get a glimpse are usually all 7+ figures (excluding the .00).  Those I see patron HSBC premier are those 20+ something young girls banking in 200k+ cheques.

QUOTE(guy3288 @ Mar 3 2016, 10:54 PM)
that  important point needs highlight.
Small FD eg  RM1000, rate difference not important, 3.45% or 4.5%
nothing much to lose..

However i was quite annoyed by those who pretend to speak your mind earlier,
saying if you already have tens of millions in FD, you wont bother be it FD rate 3.45% or 4.55%

That is kind of silly.
An additional RM10,000 in interest return in a year is nothing?

The more millions they have in FD the more they must pay attention to the rate.
3.45% or 4.5% can give additional RM100,000 a year!

if people have the attitude already have millions , wont bother value of  RM10,000
i doubt they have reached there, by  own effort.

Its good that you didn t come out sounding like what they have said ..
*
I think in short, we cannot simply stereotype the different levels of wealth of people.

For the poorer people, there are those that still spend like there's no tomorrow & still don't bother to invest or keep in promo FD rates.
For the rich, there are still some who are super stingy who don't even own a car. Some are so caught up with work/business they don't even know what is priority banking / promo FD.
For the ultra rich, I have observed some who go the bank with bodyguards or send bodyguards to do transactions. But I have even seen a minister (who always wears a bowtie) still withdrawing money from an ATM!

People being people are very different in their behaviour. Who said our Captain not chasing for high FD ? Why did he has the blog on FD ?

I know of someone in Penang in construction business, having multiple wifes who drove Proton Wira himself. I asked him why, he said no point driving expensive car. His company is in the KLSE main board, he is the CEO !

Anyway, we all perceive returns from FD differently.  biggrin.gif
*
I think I read at one time our Captain said because of his 'status' in UOB, he gets to renew his FD at whatever promo rate there is or maybe even better? thumbsup.gif

Waiting to reach his level only, at the moment I can say priority banking at SCB, Ambank & BR is not much use except for skipping queues & yearly diaries/ang pow packets.

This morning in SCB PB centre to withdraw FD. 10 minutes kaotim. Good !  rclxms.gif

Moved to BR 2 yrs 4.55% with monthly interest. No gift left, just towel.  biggrin.gif

Next week will be placing for 1 yr 4.5% with monthly interest there. Asked about gift. The officer said will ask from HQ gold coins, golf clubs etc. He said Exclusive Club of BR has exclusive gifts for members.  rclxms.gif But he has to ask from KL. Take note of this for those who are the BR Exclusive Club members !  biggrin.gif

Complained about Penang island's gift not as good as in other branches during CNY. He said will feedback to the committee.  nod.gif
*
You were lucky at SCB, my RM bluffed me said there is a promo FD & ended up talking to me about Prudential!

On my end, BR now gives a larger towel, umbrella or sun shade. I really want to pay a visit to the HQ, it seems the environment is very nice based on last year's calendar tongue.gif

Worst part is she intro this SCB/Prudential agent who has been working in uptown for 5 years & said I have been putting into FD promos since she started working there (I really cannot remember if it has been that long). Probably everyone has changed except her, ha! biggrin.gif

Anyway, will try to avoid SCB unless their rates are irresistable

QUOTE(bbgoat @ Apr 1 2016, 07:31 PM)
Really hate to have FD matured on 1st of the month, especially big funds (to me but sub sub sui to others  tongue.gif ). Have to call to know the latest promo:

UOB:
4 mth     4%
9 mth     4.15%
12 mth   4.3%

OCBC:
9 mth      4.15%
15 mth    4.3%
Promo, existing fund just top up 10k will do

AmBank:
3 mth       4.1%   min 10k
9 mth       4.15% min 20k

HL:
3 mth        4.2%  min 10k

CIMB:
12 mth      4.3%
Last week CIMB still can give 4.35% for large deposit, this mth, no more. Max 4.3% !

After considering the amt for my FD (in SCB), decided to go back to BR. Called to get nego rate of 12 mth 4.5%. Got the approval from BR HQ 15 minutes later.

So, went to SCB to withdraw FD. Last week, getting the CO in 10 mnutes. Today, still no people in the PB centre, 35 minutes !! Asked why took so long, told as relatively large, need more signature.  doh.gif So the time taken is related to the amt of FD !! Shxx !!  doh.gif

Went to BR. Lots of people there. Was greeted by the officer and jumped queue. Given one more Cross pen as I posted on Tuesday. More gifts like gold coins coming from HQ .................. thumbup.gif
*
I am in a similar situation as you unker goat. I have 3 FDs maturing in the next 1 week! Btw, do you have a RM in BR?
Your Cross pen looks much more tempting than my car sun shade / bath towel. rclxms.gif
Before I go BR next week will try nego rate with HQ. Call up the branch first before going right? Don't like it as need to call a general line & then patch u through to the respective branch. cry.gif

QUOTE(BoomChaCha @ Apr 2 2016, 11:05 AM)
Simple, the government wants to give benefit to SSM, and secondly want to collect income tax
from internet seller later..

So, the best 1 year FD rate is 4.3%? If to omit BR..

Gomen's 'concept' I help u, u help me ma biggrin.gif But that procedure is so so mah fan!

I have answered that before. That BR Xclusive Club do not assign RM like other banks. Anyway I am in Penang.

You can visit BR branch if u do not want to call up a general line and talk to the officer, ABM or even BM. Nego few days before your FD mature date (in other banks).

Their gifts wise used to include Parker pens but this Cross pen seems to be of better quality than the Parker pen they gave out to me before. Other gifts include laptop bag, backpack, towel, cups, manicure set (nice one) etc etc. These are just bonus to me.  biggrin.gif

Let know what rate u got ! Good luck !  thumbup.gif
*
Thousand apologies, I was also thinking no RM too but just wanted to confirm.
I will call up first before going as the last time I asked for nego rate, about a week passed without any updates until I called & asked & 5 minutes later got an answer bangwall.gif

I will specifically ask for Cross pen biggrin.gif The parker pen was either blue or white, not stainless steel color tongue.gif
Sure, will let you know the outcome.

What was the answer at that time:
"5 minutes later got an answer"

You can ask for multiple gifts. The Cross pens seems to be a premium gift. Ask for other gifts that I stated earlier. The Parker used to have 2 types, one cheapo and another one more expensive but I think the Cross pen is better quality.  biggrin.gif They may not give unless the deposit amount is higher. Hard to say, just ask !  biggrin.gif
*
That time I think was you also who mentioned 4.3% 12 months nego rate. I got that also.

Ya i got 2 cheapo gifts before for 1 FD, towel & umbrella. In January still had annual diary also.

I don't think I am the one. I have only nego with them in January for matured FD for 4.5% and the recent 4.5% with gold coins !  drool.gif  drool.gif

You are their Xclusive Club member also ? Their HQ supposed to have better facility for Xclusive  member ?  hmm.gif
*
I think I got 4.3% in Nov or Dec.

Yes I am Xclusive. I even purposely asked last month on the benefits but one of the teller even told me the Xclusive gifts has been discontinued!

They had the cutting queue privilege right from the start.
Next time you walk into BR, look out for the thick yellow & blue carpet, that is for Xclusive.

So far I observed at least 3 branches got that carpet.
I have just sent in my application but they asked me what rate I want so I put 4.5% then.

Gift wise, some branch may finished their stock. For Xclusive club, they have to get gift from HQ (more unique than towel etc).  biggrin.gif
*
Not yet gotten the answer, they said need 1 or 2 days time will let me know.

Anyway, I am not ready also. SCB also needs a few days also to terminate my priority banking status before I can transfer out my $$ else they will charge RM 100 a month if I don't meet the AUM! vmad.gif

Gary, Thanks for reminding this..
After all my SCB FDs become mature, I will withdraw all FDs from SCB.

How to avoid SCB to charge us RM 100 bruce.gif  after we withdraw all our monies?

Or can we request to terminate our priority banking status before we withdraw our
FDs..?  So that we will not be charged RM 100..  hmm.gif
*
No problems. My AUM has not gone below the minimum amount but I am already asking to change my status, better to be safe. I suppose on the day I really confirm my status changes to 'Normal' customer I will transfer out my $$.

SCB is terrible, in the Priority Banking letter, it says can call up to cancel but when I called, the operator said will ask my RM to call me to confirm. Then when she called me (surprisingly didn't ask me to buy something) she confirmed but still need few more days to change my status to normal banking customer.

Cool down guys. I just started reading all the posts from my last message yesterday & so many updates about amounts?

Like bbgoat said, it really does depends on the branch. I place at 2 different branches as between these 2 branches, 1 gives better gifts while the other usually allows nego rate when actually I was informed this is not supposed to be allowed.

Previously one of the officers said they look at both total amount you have currently & the current amount you plan to place with them. So far I think the nego starts at 100k & above.

Guys,

Just learnt something new from BR.

Apparently if your FD is below RM50k, you can withdraw at any BR branch but if higher, you cannot.
